  1. patent number D181866 current classification D17/14
  2. There was a patent filed in 1958 for the moderne. That is probably the best drawing you will find. And it would be easy to get if you knew the patent number. Anyone know the patent number?
  3. I actually drew one of those this weekend. My drawing is based on the Abstract Double V but the body is probably a bit shorter than it is supposed to be. I based the height on the upper V before I noticed the picture was taken at an angle. Double V PDF
  4. Sure, done. It is pretty hard to see that inner line even on the great picture you got me. But it looks like it is inset about an inch from the outside all around, so I just guessed. If you are interested I took a stab at the Devastator too. Thanks again for the pictures guys.
  5. I saw that one. I think it will have to do. I got another good pic from deadmike to work with also. Thanks. confusing buttons... I've been thinking of replacing the body selector buttons with pictures. I just need to find some motivation to program that, like a few people saying "Hey, I'd could really use that if it didn't suck." The other confusing buttons do a bunch of confusing things. They'll probably have to stay confusing unless I get really motivated an a whole lot smarter.
  6. You're very welcome. None of them are perfect, just close enough for you to guess what they are supposed to be. I'd like to add a Devastator too, if anyone has a good enough pic.
  7. Deadmike sent me his picture and I drew a resonable likeness. You can make a pdf on my site.
  8. The pic Metal Matt posted was from the old Gothic Custom Site that has disappeared. You can still find it in the wayback machine on archive.org. There are a few more pictures on this page. But all of these pictures are skewed at funny angles. Does anyone have a good straight on picture of the real thing or a copy?
  9. I think I'll have to check out the uspto and do some more reading on the Feiten system. Maybe I can make a Feiten calculator. I'm sure it boils down to a few simple formulas.
  10. Yes, the high string would be slightly longer than the scale of that fretboard edge and the low string would be slightly shorter. But the ratios for fret placement are still preserved so it plays in tune. I worked through the multiscaled fretboard math a while back and wrote a calculator but it makes you specify the scale of the strings not the fretboard edges. I don't want to be dissagreeable or repeat myself too much but the novax system (and systems like it) address tension and harmonic content not intonation like the Feiten system does. There isn't anything to stop you from using the two systems together to produce a properly tensioned guitar that plays in tune. I should say I haven't touched either system in real life, but I have spent a lot of time reading patents and solving equations related to the subjects. Please correct me if I'm wrong but I don't think "intonation" is the right word to use when talking about the novax system.
  11. There I tons of threads on the subject here already, but I love talking about the concepts. I like to think of it like this: Feiten is fixing the problem in a standard guitar design where notes are too sharp because of the increased tension of the depressed string. Novak is fixing the problem where strings at different tensions have different harmonic content. Adjusting the length across the fretboard balances the tension and therefore the harmonic content.
  12. I've tried a number of times to understand CAD and failed. So I've created my own process and tools. Still use my computer; I just like to make things more complicated. I google for a picture. Blow it up to 1:1 in Inkscape. Trace it with the bezier path tool. Copy the path data into my own little tool. Click a few buttons and print out the resulting PDF which has been split to print on 8.5x11 sheets of paper. I started writing a more in depth tutorial in the hope that someone could use it, but it sucked so I quit. You can still read it at the bottom of this page. As far as cutting out. I haven't gotten that far but I will rough it out on a band saw and clean it up with something.
  13. Well maybe this should have been in the off topic section. I thought it might belong here because these programs are great for transcribing quick passages. I looked a little more and while I still haven't found a program that is specifically designed to do this the "expand" control in snd does the trick quite nicely. I'll have to test it more loudly when my daughter isn't sleeping. I got the tip from this article.
  14. I'm looking for a cd, wav, or mp3 slow down utility for linux. I've used "SlowDownMoses" on windows before and thought it was great. I tried a few quick google searches but they were fruitless. I just haven't found the magic keywords yet. Anyone use software on linux that will play a song slower and keep the pitch?
  15. Copywritten or trademarked? Gibson is going after PRS. Check out the PRS site. And This is what the guitar looks like. and LP styled body but not headstock.
  16. If close is good enough, I drew a very inexact template of a bc rich stealth from a photo last night. You can create a scale PDF on my site. Maestro, What method do you use to print a picture of a guitar to scale? Most of the pictures I have seen of guitars on the internet are tiny (smaller than 800 x 600). Wouldn't the quality at such great magnification be absolutely unbeareable?
  17. I think I just found the ultimate link for Tiger fans: Jerry's Guitars There is an interview with Doug Irwin and even a schematic for Tiger's wiring.
  18. When I made my guitar back in '96 I had the idea that I wanted to do a bunch of microtonal fretboards. I didn't want to restrict myself to standard fretplacement rulers, so my father and I built a mitrebox fretslotting jig with a threaded rod down the middle to move the fretboard. As far as I can remember it worked pretty well, but that was a while back and I haven't used it since. I have some pictures online here.
  19. I've been drawing a lot of guitar body templates lately. Mostly standard designs but a few of my own. I think I favor my own creative efforts. So I wanted to see where we all fit in between reactionary classic guitar body fanatic and mad scientist pressing the bounds of creativity.
  20. Not really. I have some complaints. I don't dig the emg selects but they were cheep. The truss rod access in the headstock is absolutely butchered. The action is too high because I haven't taken the time to learn how to adjust the truss rod. The bridge sadles aren't properly intoned because the bridge is too close. I like the lacewood and the scallops. I do like the removable fretboard. (I have a fretless blank that screws on. very very difficult to play barred chords.) I like the hipshot trilogy bridge that I put on in '99. And I love the Blend pot and master volume that I added when I rewired it last summer. I'm gonna put that in every guitar I build from now on. I was impatient in high school and I did sloppy work but I did end up with six strings that make noise. So I guess my guitar still needs some work. But thanks for the compliment.
  21. Perhaps I'm just on a Dead kick lately. (I've been playing nothing but Ripple all week.) I've been planning to draw some Garcia guitar body templates. This thread got me motivated. I just added three new bodies to my super-duper pre-alpha body template PDF generator. Here you will find a Cripe template and two Irwin templates. Enjoy. Make sure you alter the size of the neck joint to fit the neck you are making since these are only approximate drawings. You will also find a template based on my guitar. I built it in '96. My own little tribute. Maybe someday I will get really motivated and add a polished version of this into FretFind.
  22. Actually the picture up there isn't Tiger at all. It is the Alembic guitar I saw. Alembic Custom Looks like they do make a standard model. Alembic Tribute It will only run you about $7500 US. I found a great picture of Garcia's Cripe and Irwin guitars on the web recently. It was taken when they were in the Hall of Fame. Very straight on. You could draw a template from it. Anybody happen to know the scale length of Garcia's guitars?
  23. Alembic wasn't too far off though. I thought I saw a Tiger copy on the Alembic custom shop site a few weeks back.
  24. Wait. Did you want to know the scale lengths on these necks? It seems odd to me that they don't post that on the page. I would think that would be an important detail. If you email novax guitars, I'm sure they will tell you. I could probably make a guess with a ruler and a calculator but it would likely be way off.
