  1. Curtis, Man, thanks for posting that. I havn't listned to that Extreme stuff in years. I forgot how much that guy just rocks . Flight of the bumblebee just blew me away the first time I heard it, back in high school....over 10 yrs ago....damn i'm getting old....oh well thanks anyway
  2. How twisted is the board? Could you twist it back by stickering it? If you make a scarf joint for the headstock and glue a flat piece of wood at the other end to make up the heal thickness, you can laminate a neck out a piece of 3/4" thick x 4" wide. ( you could go narrower than 4" wide depending on your headstock shape and whether or not you want to glue on "ears to get the headstock width)
  3. I just read a review in WOOD magazine where they tested six or seven different router kits. They tested routers from Bosch, Craftsman professional, DeWalt, Makita, Porter Cable, and Skil. Skil being the low end and I think the makita was the high end ( about $100 to $270). They rated each unit based on several different criteria including: power, how well the fixed base worked, how well the plunge base worked, control layout, and price. According to their standards the best value was the bosch kit followed closely by the craftsman professional (both about $200). They did say though that all the routers handled what ever they threw at them, but that the more expensive routers where built better, i.e. better bearing , larger motor armature etc.
  4. Man, that top is just gorgeous Looks awesome.
  5. Yeah, I'm using wintopo freeware as well. That's how I converted marzocchis drawing. Well, I used wintopo to get the outline, but then I had to go back in and redraw over top of it to get something useful.
  6. Hotrock, What are you using for your raster to vector conversion? I have some freeware but it is scetchy at best.
  7. Well, I guess that would definitely increase ones dedication to a project
  8. Can't see the pics man EDIT Allright 30 sec later and there they are. Sorry my bad. Nice wood though.
  9. Holy crap dude, you are a dedicated man! Plotting all of those points must take forever. I can see why your eyes would go buggy It would be cool to see a picture when you get this into a solid model.
  10. Inf1d3l, You need to take another picture of your pencil line drawing and you need to be straight on to it. Your first picture is on an angle and I cant get a very accurate drawing off of it. You also need to darken up your pencil lines as much as possible, without making huge fat lines. Get a better pic up and I will see if I have time to draw it. Jer P.S. Are you going to CNC this thing?
  11. If you measure and cut carefully, you might be able to get 2 necks using a scarf joint for the angled head stock and laminating for the heal thickness. Ah, but you would still not have optimal grain direction.
  12. Hey if you can afford the 12" go for it, you'll never regret the extra capacity.
  13. Hotrock, How are you taking what you have on the graph paper and putting it into your cad system? Also what software are you using? Is a national resonator flat or will it need to be formed somehow after laser cutting?
  14. check this out, If you like it I will email you the dxf or whatever format you want. My numbers came out real close to what you had but my drawing came out 8mm wider across the lower bout. I also just roughed in around the neck pocket because I didn't have any dimensions to go from Hope it works for you Ooops, Just saw your new drawing. I probably don't have time to redo the drawing today. If no one else does it today, I'll try again tomorrow
  15. Nice shop dude! I sure would like to have access to that kind of thicknessing and jointing equipment.
  16. Open up that picture account so we can see what you have and I will take a look at it for you.
  17. I just priced out some wood for my LP copy. I can get the mahogony for the neck and body and the 3/4" maple for the cap for around $78.00. This is for the rough sawn board stock. For another $52.00 this place will glue up the body blanks and plane and sand them to thickness ( They didn't have any material available for 1 piece blanks). I don't have access to a jointer or planer or thickness sander, so my question is are there other options to get my blanks to this point or do I just bite the bullet and pay to have the blanks made up? I can't be the only one without these tools, what are you guys doing?
  18. Thanks you guys, I just added that book to my x-mas list
  19. Just wondered if anyone could point me to any sites where they list what's in various players rigs. For instance what is in Slashes rig or EVH etc...
