  1. Im thinking of making a neck with laminates of 1" mahogany / 3/8"walut / 3/4" flame maple / 3/8" walnut / 1" mahogany Will this be ok? does it even matter how wide the laminates are? It is for bass necks, and i hope to get 2 blanks out of a 36" x 2" x 4" blank. so i figure they will be about 7/8" thick. will this be good enough for a 5 or 6 string bass neck? I noticed many blanks are 7/8" to 1". can i just make a heel block? Thanks
  2. Ive tried to find out how to take the cup out of a 1/4" maple board. I cant find anything that tells me how to step by step. Could anyone steer me in a good direction? thanks
  3. i tried to bid on this, but i have a feeling itll go for more than i can afford rite now. just curious if anyone else of here is bidding on this.

  7. Hey there. About to make my first bass, and im going to use 2 Mightymite active Soapbars, and i want to make a preamp. I came across this in my searches. Fet Preamp I saw that , and found this as well DIY guitarist I just wondered how this circuit would be installed wit the 2 volume, 1 tone pot setup. does it go onto the tone pot instead of a resistor? I am unfamiliar. Also how would the diagram for the DIY preamp differ from the first? thanks.
  8. its your intonation. youre in the wrong area BTW. there should be a tutorial on the main page.

  11. Im in the market for some reasonably priced tuners for a new bass. I noticed that warmoth has gotoh GB7's for 30 a set. You think they would be better than the $25 dollar ebay ones? Thanks
  12. yeah i agree. find a sticker you like or just wait till u do something that u require a piece of duct tape or something. it will come to u
  13. Im suprised at how many beautiful guitars u all have in mind. BUILD THEM PLEASE i love watching the pics of them in progress. I dont even know which of mine would be considered my dream. I ordered one of my dreams. but i have many other deams
  14. I think you should be able to. Mind you youll probably have some bridge mods ahead of you if you want a humbucker in the bridge. Rout out the body for bigger pickups. mod/new pickguard. If i build a tele shaped guitar, Ill probably go with 2 humbuckers. But if its a good old real tele, It might not be worth hacking up and making its value drop. JMO
  15. So is a quartersawn laminated neck, just flatsawn boards, laid on their side and laminated? Will you have to joint the surfaces? or just plane them? sorry if im hijacking.
  16. Hi there, I want to start a neck thru bass, and was curious if i needed quartersawn or flat sawn. Am i best to just buy a maple blank and cut it? Or should I buy boards? I want to have it Maple/Purpleheart/Maple/Purpleheart/Maple. So do I use flat sawn and turn it on its side, or do I use quartersawn and but it to strips? Thanks for helping out.
  17. The e string on my jazz bass has much more extra fretboard above the string than my g string does below. Does that make sense? Would I use neck shims to move the neck more to the g side? Thanks.
  18. Which method is better to use? rhoads' or the one drawn? I have a BC rich neck with a joint like Rhoads'. thanks
  19. Ive wondered about this, so im curious if anyone had a drawn up pic, showing join lines. Makes it easier to see/learn. Hope im not asking too much. thanks
  20. Does anyone have any information on watco oils as a finish? I read Carl thompson uses them on his whole bass. I like the idea of a one oil finish, no messing with different kinds. anyone else use this? would i use in on the fingerboard too? Thanks
  21. Well since fret placement is the same on all 25" scale guitars or 34" scale basses. you could conclude that at the 22nd fret the neck will be the same length for any neck of that scale would u not?
  22. Wes has style. I love ur finger boards. The one u were working on last, ( i think it was u) with the birds eye boards and bocote binding is sweet. so If I want to angle my neck, should I andgle the neck itself or should I andgle the pocket? I want to build a bass, and im not sure if it needs an angle. Thanks.
