  1. is it really just as simple as that? ? ? i thought i better ask before blew something up.
  2. AARRGGGG!!! i could really use the info those links USED to contain. ive been searching through the old posts looking for info on how to wire up epiphone pickups but its not listed on a lot of the wiring sites at "guitarelectronics.com" and the other link doesnt work anymore. alot of the schematics arent working on the "projectguitar" main site and i need something quite specific. im looking to wire up a epiphone humbucker straight to the jack with no pots, but i could really use a diagram to keep me straight and also whether i should be using capaciters? (and where) not that theres many places they could go my brothers a electronic tech and im sure he'll know what hes doing but id like to at least give him a diagram to work from rather than a lump of parts. thanks for any help!
  3. jawdropping! everything about your wood is so smooth and perfect!
  4. i really like that new design, it fits the guitar better than the "claw" but those 7 pegs are becoming a bugger arent they....
  5. cheers ashez, i have it layed out on my table with the neck sitting in the pocket and everytime i pass it i just want to grab it and start playing!!! but its going to be ages until its finished
  6. matt that headstock is pure evil !! i really like the "claw" on the end, but id like it better if the pegs were a bit tidier, symetrical maybe? dont get me wrong, the design is mental, but the pegs look just a tad squint.
  7. updated at last. return of the shambles..... bought a pickup, did the cavity. heres the gory pictures!! http://deadmike.150m.com/page_6.htm
  8. hey matt, keep the jack on the back of the guitar. i always think pots and jack sockets spoil a good design, im putting mine on the back, but i havent really figured out where. cant make any decisions until i actually get it. as for the headstock i couldnt suggest anything myself other than keeping the pegs 3 a side with one slap bang in the middle (making 7). like the BC rich widow but with a peg sticking out of the top. (if you catch my drift)? it might spoil the design but i havent seen anything like that before...
  9. i really like the shape and look of it, but i would have reversed the body to have the SG horn on the left. the neck does look abit crooked, i think the guitar is sitting at a slight angle?
  10. theres going to be a lot of dissapointed people whove been following this project (me included) . why not just finish it off anyway? just for fun?
  11. ooo gibson SG my fav the template looks a bit more like a ESP Viper. cant wait to see more updates!
  12. thanks, im confident now. if its good enough for them, then its chea... i mean good enough for me.
  13. i was just reading up on this today as im going to have to do it myself very soon (for the first time) my brothers a electronic tech, so hes going to help me. he says copper tape is about the best out of what hes used before. but.... in Dan Erlewine's guide to guitar repair, he says aluminium foil is fine for shielding (screening) applied with a hot glue gun. Melvyn Hiscock's complete guide to guitar building on the other hand says that aluminium foil "just isnt good enough". before i was ready to take the cheaper option, but now im starting to have doubts. i dont want my guitar to look like a Smash robot for nothing? has anybody else had good results with tin foil?
  14. tin foil sounds like the better option to me, nice an' cheap
  15. is that for drainpipes or radiators?? sounds a bit like "hammerite" but i could be completely wrong.
  16. since trying to build my guitar ive become some what addicted to checking wood in furniture and so on. since my guitar is just a pine jobbie, ive been scanning constantly for any wood that could be useable. the local yards round my way are completely rubbish and dont deal in a lot of hardwood. 2 places refused to even let me near it because i told them i wanted a couple of feet of it. very poor customer service... so ive been checking out furniture because im positive i can find a dining table or coffee table that will be the right thickness and will already be glued up. all i'll need to do is take off the finish and cut out the body. i have a great looking indian rosewood dining table which is perfect, but the misses's might be a tad upset to find a guitar shaped hole in... so ive resisted. its good to know there are others out there like minded. my mate builds bows and hes just the same. "seen any good wood lately?"
  17. matt, we should join a band, call ourselves "the spikey headstock conspiracy" and play incredibly bad scandanavian metal with leather and studs gallore. bagsy the moustache, you can be the blonde guy.
  18. i was going try some kind of matt black on a test piece and compare it to a another with a varnish to see if theres any difference. i.e. if the matt somehow still stays more matt than gloss with varnish if you get my drift? i dunno, i'll have buy a loads of paints and test them out. regardless of what i use, it'll be black!
  19. bloody hell! sounds like a lot of work. so i couldnt just bung some paint on it and then some varnish?
  20. yeah when i showed it to my girlfriend she said "oh great, youve turned the guitar into a weapon" she thought that was funny, but i thought ... cooooll i dont know about the painting, i need to read up some more but i was hoping just to sand the altered areas flat and re-do them to blend with rest of the neck. im not sure if i CAN do that, got to hit the books.
  21. this might sound completely stupid as i havent seen it done elsewhere (and theres probably a reason). keeping your headstock design as is, why not use string trees (is that right?) to redirect the D and G into the centre of the headstock so as not to cross with the others? im not sure if you can do such a severe redirection of strings as i cant say ive seen it done before, but off the top of my head, i cant think why not?
  22. cheers guys, i have slapped myself on the back already, perhaps too much, and making blunders like the neck pocket slaps you back to reality! the plan with the block is, two screws will go through that into the neck, another two through the body into the neck and two just into the body. hopefully that many screws will clamp the neck in place against the plate and should be bloody tight. gibson headstock would look good , but such a curved and gothic style body needs a special headstock... and here it is. http://deadmike.150m.com/page_6.htm
  23. im in carnoustie just north of dundee. blimey youve had it rough up there mate! yeah im hoping the final coat of black paint will hide all the blemishes and mistakes, if not its a lesson learnt and i can improve on it next time. and for someone who knew NOTHING about guitars, other than they made a noise, i reckon ive done ok. better get that headstock finished!
  24. update on filling in the tuning peg holes http://deadmike.150m.com/page_5.htm these updates seem very boring and insignificant, but i suppose there all steps towards to goal. should have another update tomorrow on the cut headstock.
  25. matt, my headstock came out... ok, it needs a lot of tlc after i lopped a massive piece of it off. pictures on my project site tomorrow night. theres been a few suggestions about what you should do with it like skulls and writing. i couldnt see that on the impaler, the shape is all the design it needs, cluttering it up with logo's and symbols would spoil it i reckon. why not do a triangle headstock like you suggested and router the edges like the lower horn, i think that would be excellent and pretty unique, i havent seen many (if at all) headstocks with routered edges. it would keep the headstock fitting with the guitar. just my thoughts
