  1. That's sweet! Looks like a meaty neck! How much neck angle if any? Thanks. Dave
  2. Tonight I did the belly carve with a spokeshave, scraper and sandpaper. See the "Shaping the Body" page. Thanks. Dave http://www.downinfrontht.com
  3. hyunsu, another beauty! Do you have any angle in the neck? I noticed your Wilkinson is not recessed. Mine won't be either and I have no neck angle. Thanks. Dave
  4. I think the first pic was better because the lower horn had the right length. I just thought it had too much hook. Keep the length of the horn the same but take some of the curl out of it. Large radius.
  5. I repaired the control cavity damage I inflicted last week. Made a new cover to go with the larger opening, installed my 5 way switch (will make it perfect later this week) and did my arm carve with files and sandpaper. Pics are in the "Shaping The Body" and "Control Cavity" pages. Thanks. Dave http://www.downinfrontht.com
  6. Jay, I'll be building this arbor this weekend. I'm going to be using hardwood though. I'll post pics when it's done. Dave
  7. Could there be a worse start for a thread? Seriously, the info you seek is on this board in spades. When you're not feeling lazy, go do a search. People will help you to no end on this board. We're just not going to do the work for you. Here's a pointer for knowing if you're asking a lazy question. If the question is a "How Do I Do This" kind of question. It's probably a lazy question. If the question is a "I'm In the process of and am stuck with" kind of question, that's better. But in either case, do a search first. Lastly, don't just say you did a search when you really didn't, because the guys with the answers on the board, know what's been discussed and whether or not the info is there. Good luck. PS Don't be lazy. It makes for bad guitars. Sorry in advance. I'm a little cranky. But the point remains the same.
  8. Where do you see this? I don't see any lines. Mayber you mistaking artifacts caused by the digital compression of the image in the post.
  9. What grit files are you using? Should it be smooth, medium or coarse. I can't seem to find any smooth flat files.
  10. Corner mortising chisels are not designed to work in a route as deep as a neck pocket. Mortises are typically very shallow (1/8"). Plus neck pockets are a pretty precise affair and I'd worry about using any cutting tool on a neck pocket that you're supposed to hit with a hammer! However, the second link looks interesting.
  11. Normally, though, you want to avoid square corners on bolt on necks because of the inclination of the neck to move in the pocket. Could cause problems for square corners. That's why most bolt on necks are rounded.
  12. In a bolt on, the mating is done by the screws and the torque they generate. No matter how tight neck fits in it's pocket, it doesn't approach the strength the screws provide. Look at the Petrucci EBMM model. The pocket is practically open on one side. There's no way that pocket could be tight enough to hold without screws. Still, no problem with sustain.
  13. If that's true, you should probably re-consider building a guitar. Seriously. You might want to read, research and do some searches on this board to get a better idea of what's involved. Don't mean to sound like a prick but there's alot of "calculating" involved in building a guitar. Most of which, you want to do before you start.
  14. No way. The mods at Carvin.com are always deleting any and everything that rubs them the wrong way that day and it certainly doesn't create a "sense of maturity". On the contrary. It creates the sense of a kindergarten class and that the members are all children. I know I get frustrated when people post 12 questions in the same post and don't even try to search. But you can't jump on them for it. Give them a friendly push and be done with it.
  15. You might want to do a search for the anwsers to these questions. Plus, you might want this in the proper forum too.
  16. I wanna be hyunsu when I grow up!
  17. What kind of harmonics are we talking about here? Can you describe how you do them? Thanks. Dave
  18. What coarseness of file shoud I use when making such a tool? The flat files I see at the store are usually 8 or 10 inches and are smooth to coarse in finish? Is this OK for beveling or do I need smooth? Thanks. Dave
  19. I'm considering a tru-oil finish and am wondering if I can use a dye or stain underneath it. Thanks. Dave
  20. Jay, thanks. Initially I intended to make small cleats and attach them to the inner walls of the cavity. That won't be necessary anymore since in order to fix the damage I caused to the recess, I had to open the recess another 1/8" and make a new plate. Now I have room for the screws to sit in the recess. I'll be posting pics of the repair later. Dave
