  1. Wolfgang Droge was killed a few days ago. He lived next door to my friend. I knew nothing about him until he died and the news wouldnt shut up about him. What an insane nutbar he was. And I live farther North than you guys here in Toronto Canada lol. I like the SSV guitar, especially the sperzel tunners. I see them on ebay a lot and i like the idea of having a different choice of colour for tuners besides silver, gold and black lol. -Jamie
  2. im in the same boat as you dude except im not buying my new computer or anything until i get back from my trip to europe. I suggest you go to http://studio-central.com/phpbb/index.php and read on DAWs (digital audio workstation) and look at anything else there. Your computer looks okay but it depends what you want out of it. What kind of processor are you getting, intel p4 socket 478, Intel P4 Socket 775, Intel Celeron, AMD Athlon 64, AMD Sempron, AMD Athlon XP, or what? What kind of ram are you getting, SDRAM, DDR or DDR2? Here's what I am looking at so far. I'm copying it from a word document which i copied from tigerdirect, however im not going to be using that site when i buy my stuff because of a recent past incident... Abit AA8-DuraMAX Intel Socket 775 ATX Motherboard / PCI Express / Audio / Gigabit LAN / USB 2.0 / Firewire / Serial ATA / RAID Intel Pentium 4 630 3.0Ghz / 2MB Cache / 800 FSB / Socket 775 / HyperThreading / Processor with Fan Corsair Value Select Dual Channel 1024MB PC4200 DDR2 Memory (2 x 512MB) Western Digital / Caviar SE / 200GB / 7200 / 8MB / SATA-150 / OEM / Hard Drive Western Digital / Caviar SE / 80GB / 7200 / 8MB / SATA-150 / Hard Drive 52x32x52 CDRW Drive 52X CDROM Drive 3-Port Firewire PCI Card w/ Internal Header Keyboard and mouse use the small hard drive for XP home or professional, and recording programs, use the large hard drive for stuff you record. You need a lot of ram to prevent lagging and latency in your songs, same goes with your hz im pretty sure. Seriously, in the end it's best to just dish out 1-2 grand for a computer that'll prolly last you the next 10+ years. how many instruments will you be using? if you're using 2 mics and 4 instruments or something like that, get the firebox from presonus. if you're wanting to use more, get the firepod from presonus. They both use firewire I believe hence the names lol. Also you'll want a good program to mix to, so cubase should do, or you can get one of those really cheap free ones if you're only using this for fun. Are you going to be mastering tracks? If so, get a pair of active monitors. I'm told behringer make good ones. The ones im aiming for are the Rokit 5s. You can see them on music123.com It really all depends on what you want. I don't know what I want, but I want something to depend on and when soemthing is complete, the possibility of adding drum tracks and all. If you get an interface without phantom power, you're going to need a mixer I believe, however i think you wont since cubase has the on board mixer. I really suggest you check the forum I gave you. I did one post there (same username) and my computer was poo at the time, and who knows, it prolly still needs an adjustment or two even though i've corrected it. Take a look on that site and soak up as much information as possible, however if you're just wanting to record you, and you alone just with your guitar, it seems okay, but in the end, in a year just say, and you want to record a whole band and all, i dont think youd want to upgrade and all that. This is why im goin all out now and i'll have it for the next 10 years and by then the technology should be so far that it would be just cheaper to record in a professional recording studio hope this all helps. -Jamie
  3. why not ask big D or look at some of his previous posts to his ebay page. He's got tele bodies going on a lot if i am not mistaken.
  4. i'm guessing your amp has a 3 prong plug, and your amp, pedals, etc, are being used in the same outlet. I'm told that should help, but also do what lovekraft suggests. Do you get outlet testers at any local hardware store? -Jamie
  5. an external card would be best if your computer is only being used for recording, which is what i'm going to be doing. I am told that latency in tracks and lagg will be corrected by the more ram you get. A good site for recording and all is http://studio-central.com/phpbb/index.php it's a forum. Basically if you want a good rig, you're going to have throw down good money. If you're just wanting to mess around, then maybe you can live with the latency or do something wes said to avoid it. -Jamie
  6. if someone gave me 3 grand to spend on a mesa rectifier, i'd only use it for its distortion. my fender deville imo is better sounding then the boogie. and too bad fender doesnt make tube amps for metal. gah, nothings perfect. lol
  7. too bad they aren't set up for duel humbuckers. it doesnt matter anyways, the next 2000 dollars of mine are going elsewhere right now
  8. I can diss them because I've tried them. I believe on the diystompbox site the guy says most companies, including boss make pedals using math formulas, and not with their ears and that's why he makes mods and stuff for pedals to correct boss and other companies pedals. Who knows if its true or not but the boss pedals i've tried, it's believable with them. I think DOD pedals sound better than BOSS. Usually I recommend digitech pedals, but their overdrive pedals are garbage in my opinion. The heavy thick metal pedals I recommend are the Pro Co Rat and the Line 6 uber metal. For thrash metal, a digitech death metal would work along with the Line 6 uber metal as well. The boss hm-3 or whatever it's called would work but I find boss pedals to be thin sounding and lack testical fortitude. The grunge pedal sounds good in my opinion, and i'd pay an extra 10 bucks for it instead of the boss DS-1, DS-2 or any other one they offer. I think the best way to get overdrive is with the booster or tube overdrive. I'm not saying all boss pedals suck because I haven't tried all their pedals. The only pedals I have tried to be honest are distortion/overdrive effects. If you really want to put money forward why not a mesa boogie v-amp or hughs and kettner tube overdrive pedal? They sounded good to me. Don't believe the person who said the mesa boogie v-amp pedal can be used for metal because it can't lol. Has anyone tried rocktron pedals? I really want to try a Gainiac 2. -Jamie
  9. and having quadruple neck guitars. The bassist even has a 12 stringer, which by the looks of it has to weight over 10 pounds. http://www.chandlerguitars.com/royale.html -Jamie
  10. right but i'm talking about even general posts, and the pg forum taking minutes to load. I don't think 50 pictures will be a nice addition. I like multiple pictures too, but since PG is slow as it is and tends to lag as it is, then why add more garbage to the full bag. Like that simpsons episode when they keep filling garbage and stapling things? hehe. I think you should post the link, and write a description of what the picture is about. GregP, are you giving Wes the finger in your last post?
  11. get mozilla, firefox or any other browser that allows you to use the option. instead of going back and forth, or opening in new windows, click on the link with the scroll ball on your mouse. It's all opened in the same browser as multiple tabs (like a binder with those coloured tabs). it's a simple rule, it's not going to kill you. it's really annoying to have to wait for pages to load, and i'm on dsl. projectguitar does have its laggy moments, and there's no need to make it slower. Let imageshack and other places host the images and leave the forum to posting threads and the occasional image. I agree with you Godin. If I haven't have found this board, I probably would've boughten one of those 99 dollar strat guitars on ebay where they state the body as "solid wood". GregP: There was a thread a few months ago of how slow PG was getting, and how come it was going down all the time. Even if we all have DSL, it would still take time to load all the pics. At least that's what i think, unless i'm the only one experiencing it and everyone who did complain about PG being slow doesn't have this problem anymore. Jamie
  12. ugh don't get boss. boss overdrive/distortion pedals are so garbage imo. why not build your own? Here's a few links Do-It-Yourself Projects for Guitarists http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/087...4353658-4603853 Electronic Projects for Musicians http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/082...4353658-4603853 Or get a book on reading shematics and a bit of theory, find a schematic and build one and tweek it to your likeing. -Jamie
  13. Try this link. http://www.reranch.com/ click on basic finishing, scroll down to Wood Dyes and read through that. -Jamie
  14. if you however find this to be a very complicated build, this may suit your needs http://www.fredzon.com/default.asp?SID=10000
  15. this is a beast, and would prolly be tough to play, but unique ebay auction the maker is frankinstein guitar works some stuff looks good, others are not my thing. give it a whirl. -Jamie
  16. Amazing job. Good idea about the chess . Good idea about the burst on the back. I totally think that's better then just a black or white, or checker. It adds a whole new thing. -Jamie
  17. Don't be affraid of competition. Especially if another tele gets put in. So far, I'd vote for that! -Jamie
  18. I chose "Pancakes and eggs and bacon/sausage fresh from the griddle!" i actually do not like bacon or sasauge because it's way too greasy for me. what's a matter with you, IT'S PANCAKES AND EGGS!!! lol -Jamie
  19. looks very nice. My girlfriend has a thing for black and white checkerboards. Are you planning on discussing how to do a checkerboard finish, step by step and all? -Jamie
  20. or do what the nihilistic spasm band did. they made instruments out of everyday furniture. one guy made a harp out of a chair or something. one guy my dad knew in university made a guitar out of a baseball bat, also John Fogerty has one like that. Could come in handy when the crowd gets too rowdy -Jamie
  21. masterminds, you have to understand that he belongs to a faith that ever since day 1 has always surpressed homosexuals, because it's a sin in the Catholic faith. If it's a sin in his faith, it's considered evil in the faith. okay there Nostradamus. just like many other religions and political systems have done in the past hundred years. I don't think he made people do it, I think the churches told the people that if they came in they'd recieve food and medical treatment, but i could be wrong. I don't get how that article from the BBC is racist. If you study history, Hitler was put in power Democraticaly and the Pope is saying that you have to be careful who you elect as your leader and that Catholics should review the laws of God when looking for a new leader, instead of the charisma and character one has. now correct me here if i am wrong, but what he is saying here is that abortion and the mass murder of people from the nazis happened because people put democracy first and the laws of God second. Remember he is speaking to Catholics, so if you're anything but a Catholic, look elsewhere. Remeber that the next time you say "YO DUDE THAZ SO GAY". He may have in your eyes showed hate but what he is doing is preserving the catholic faith from the roots it came from. Also i don't think he'd show hate towards ethnic groups and then do a worldwide tour to appologize for the Roman Catholic Church's sins. If you don't like the catholic faith and all that, that is fine. I'm not a Catholic, nor do I belong to any faith as of right now. However if you're going to just say he's evil because he's living up to what his faith has been talking about and believing for the last 1000 years, then i think you need to get a new argument to stand by to be honest. if i broke any rules or offended anyone, my appologies. When it comes to these things it's really hard to keep things simple, clean, and respectful. Peace
  22. flea markets can be okay. One guy here in Toronto found a Gibson for 200 bucks canadian, so roughly 150-175 american. NOT BAD AT ALL! lol. On the other hand Cash Converters around here was charging 500 dollars for what looked to be rip off ibanezes with horrible finishes and sloppy fretwork. You never know what you may find. -Jamie
  23. If I am wrong about this, someone correct me please... I think someone on this forum has used a spruce top on their guitar. Try using the search in the In progressed and Finished section. You're better off to get it as a top, instead of the whole thing. From what I have heard, the best grades of spruce are getting harder to find. Yamaha made a solid body electric nylon guitar using an alder body with a spruce top. For some reason they took it off the market after a year or two. The tonal properties I am sure would be the same, however don't expect it to be amazing as an acoustic . From what I have read sitka spruce has the best velocity of sound and produces more sustain than any other guitar top. I would love to build a guitar made of mahogany with a sitka spruce top, mahogany neck and ebony fretboard...mmmmmmmmm ebony. If this doesn't help, try using google. -Jamie
