  1. Thanks Robbie, That means alot from you! As far as messaging you on talkbass, not that I recall. I have however messaged you on your forum. Your latest Marseer is stunning!
  2. Check out this fattie from Norstrand, made from ash you know its got some punch.
  3. Yeah its currently pretty thick @ 1-3/4". That should make for some good tone huh? Nah, Im going to scoop out the back of the body to give a countoured back, it will be about 1" thick when done.
  4. I got the top joined and glued on and I started rough shaping it. The centerline of the bookmatch got a little off from the body centerline but Im not sweating it . At the top of the body is a pickup cover Ive started on. They will be maple and poplar over Ducan basslines Jazz pups(a used set Ive had laying around a while). I ordered the cocobolo fretboard and bought all the material to build the truss rod. I also got some purple and black die for the quilted maple. Yep save from the cocobolo and paduak this whole things going to be purple. Another View Thanks for looking.
  5. Man the guys who take the time to do this kind of thing have got to get a life....
  6. Looking good man! Im assuming your going to saw your own board? If so give some good details on how you go about doing it.
  7. Dont know why but every time I open a page for this site my antivirus goes crazy! THis site only, none of the other sites are doing it, its putting a worm virus in my temp. Internet files folder.
  8. Kind of looks like a wormhole?? I wouldnt get to distressed, It gives the wood character.
  9. Neck is shaped! Just a little minor sanding and scraping to finish it up. I used the Microplane rasp and it took all of about 45minutes to complete, best ten dollars I ever spent. Pictures didnt turn out too good. Here a pic of neck being glued in. Neck glued in. Thanks for looking.
  10. 21 frets on a bass isnt all that bad, I personally prefer 24, but Ive noticed that when Im playing I really don't go into the neck that deep often enough to constitute it.
  11. Cool! I wish i could scrounge up an old Bassman like that!
  12. I started shaping the neck just where the heel and body meet. I bought a microplane today and about $75.00 worth of clamps, and some rasps. I have to admit that I've never shaped a neck with the rasps and microplane before. I've always used my D.A sander and 40 grit disks, very dusty but effective. I like this alot better but I learned the hard way that they are not as forgiving but all and all its coming along nice. Another view Thanks for looking.....
  13. Thats gonna be the cats meow! Be sure to give all the gory details on how you do the fretboard...Oh man I cant wait till my next project, 6 string fanned fret headless bass.
  14. Elysian, yeah I used that design on a zebrawood bass I built about a year ago. It came out pretty good and I guess in theory it should give a good balance of both neck and body wood tone, although I couldnt tell . The current design is pretty similar, the neck just doesnt show in the body at all and being it doesnt have but about 1/4" of wood on top I doubt it will make a dramatic tone difference from just a standard neck through. AU3078 I see what your saying, the only problem I would have in that respect would be pickups and being only 3/4" total (jazz Pups) i'll be allright. Thats a good point you brought up though, I never thought about the neck throughs with floyds, kinda defeats the purpose huh?
  15. They may be hard to sell if you dont give the sizes.....
  16. Did you redo the nut? with a fretless the string slots will need to be lower. THat could explain why the action is off.
  17. I Had the day off from work so Ive been working on the bass. I got the body and top glued up last night. I got the shapes roughly cut out. I also routed the neck pocket (extra long tennon) and will start shaping the neck later today. Front to be covered with the quilted maple top. Ive really been admiring how Prs guitars are built, so I decided to do my neck joint somewhat like thiers but with a lot longer tennon. This will give me the neck through tone I want with out seperating the body woods. Also, Im going to thin the body down another 1/8" Back showing poplar and neck joint style Thanks for looking!
  18. What your repair shops is telling you is rubbish. You can get great results yourself for much less. Minwax makes a satin poly spraypaint that is fairly easy to spray. They also have any color stain you want too. Of course there are a lot of other brands out there that do just as well even better. Ive had pretty good results with the Minwax products.
  19. Yeah on a serious note I avoid using it, and on the occasion that I do Im extremely cautious just for that reason. You have a very valid point, I like all my fingers just the way they are. Im probably going to buy a new one and use this one for a table with an external switch.
  20. How about this but only in reverse, (back instead of front)
  21. I like that alot, but then again Im a sucker for Paduak, and the curly maple kinda tuggs at my heart too.
