Thanks to all for the nice complements. The reason I used the logo was for my Lynyrd Skynyrd tribute band "Freebird" (based out of AZ). My Character (Gary Rossington) is known for playing his Gibby LP's. So I put it on there to help keep it true to my stage appearances while being able to play my own custom built guitar. Kinda cool I think. This guitar means a lot to me so I don't have any intentions of selling it. Besides... If I REALLY want to, I can always sand down the head plate and make a new one. Hello again everyone! It's been a while. About 2 months ago I finally resumed working on my first guitar build. It's a LP copy. I figure if it plays and looks well enough I will use it in my Lynyrd Skynyrd Tribute Band, if not... A nice wall decoration. I am pleased with the way it is coming out so far. I know it's far from perfect, but for me (no real wood working skills) it's looking good. I do have some mistakes to try and fix though. So, here's the plan... Hey everyone... progress is coming along pretty well. Checkout my photobucket link(posted earlier in the thread) for updated pics of my progress. Anyway, I am getting ready to drill the holes for my Gold Tonepros System II bridge and tail piece. I did a search and I didn't find any definitive answers that helped me. The bushings (w/o knurels) measures 27/64ths or .42, The bushings (w/ knurels) measures 28/64ths or .44 Being new to all this... 1) What would be the appropriate drill bit size for the bushings? 2) When installing the bushings do you sink them in with slow and steady preasure or do you hammer them in? Haven't had much time to work on the guitar but I did take my first stab at inlay(with my new dremel). I routed out the cavities for the logo. Yes, there are gaps and it's not the best routing job in the world(LOL). However, I'm happy with it(due to my inexperience of course) I will have to fill the gaps with the "dust and epoxy" method. I was thinking of gluing in the inlays(and sanding them flush) after the headplate is glued on to the head. This way I don't possibly crack the inlays while clamping the headplate. Is this the safest way... or should I glue them in and sand them flush befor I glue down the plate? Chris

Well I am getting further along with my 1st guitar build. The Tiger Eye Les Paul. I have made some mistakes along the way. But, I think overall it's coming along ok for my first build(and VERY minimal wood working experience, let's say... back High School Shop Class(17 years ago )). I have learned A LOT. I already know some things to avoid for the other builds. As I have seen written here before... Each one gets better and you learn with every build. I am still excited about this one(even with mistakes). I figure if it doesn't play or sound well... Well, now I am a little confused. I thought that with the support rods in the neck, the neck could still be adjusted(just not as much). Likewise, it would limit the twist or movement of the neck. So, from what your saying... if you leave the first 7 fret area without support, wouldn't that make the neck susceptable to move in that area? I thought the idea was to limit the movement of the whole neck. It sucks being a noob sometimes.

I have a question regarding the Stu-Mac Carbon Fiber Reinforcement Rods. I just received mine and there is no spesific directions. http://www.stewmac.com/shop/Truss_rods/Car...07.html#details My question is... How close should you put the Carbon Fiber Rods in relation to the truss rod in the neck? Is there a general rule of distance? And... Do you run them with the paralell to the Truss Rod or the neck edge(tapering thinner to the head)? I am planing on using the guitar example #3 set up. Thanks Chris

LOL... It's the newest THING... All the cool builders are doing. Graphite Top reinforcement. LOL Yea, I thought you were talking about the neck. Ha ha ha. I don't know really how it will hold up, now that you mention it... I'm a noob. It should be ok if it's a carve top(1" thick), right? Is there a lot of stress on it, if it's glued to the one piece mahogany body. Shouldn't that give the top enough support(strength)? Thanks Chris

I was planning on using Titebond. It's what I'm gluing everything up with so far.

Do you recommend installing the binding right after you finish bending it or should you wait a while? Chris

Thanks Thegarehanman... So... 1) Do you keep the heat on that one spot as you bend it? Or do you kind of massage the spot(heating a wider 5"-8" long section) back and forth while bending it? Also, I would imagine that you bend it quite slowly. Is this correct? 2) Do you attempt to bend the curve all at once or do you make the tight curve over a fewer progressively tighter bending sessions? I think I am going to go with the iron. Any idea as to the best place for them? I've seen them on the bay but they looked a little cheesey(not sure how reliable either) and Stu's(looks good) but seems a little pricey... Chris
