  1. Thats really cool, but that last picture of you looks really really scary.
  2. I have an old 1976 ibanez LP custom clone that I put some new tuners on, after the change I strung it up with some 10 gauge boomers. But it had some very weird intonation issues that I cant explain. It played perfectly in tune everywhere except the 3rd, 4th, and 14th frets on the A and D strings where it would be extremely flat. Like if you fretted the A string at the 2rd fret it was perfect, but move up to the 3rd/4th frets and it was dead flat, back to the 5th and it was perfect again. After changing the strings to a new set of the exact same kind of strings it seems to have fixed the problem. Is there any other reason that this problem would occur and is there anything else I should double check on the guitar?
  3. I believe the carving on the horns just makes it appear that way from a certain angle. Indeed. The neck is not glued in yet, but it does have an angle, the carving of the horns just makes it look like that.
  4. I really like how comfortable this one turned out. Sitting or standing it just rests in the perfect position and your arms are held at comfortable angles.
  5. I think it would look really cool with a lightly flamed "insert" stained a light red/orange. It would contrast the black body line beautifully.
  6. I guess I'll make a thread for this guitar, it's pretty cool. The second one we've done with this double cut shape. The body has a wenge back with quilt top and the neck is birdseye/ebony board with an ebony accent line through the scarf and headstock overlay. It will have EMG 81/60 pickups and be finished in gloss blue.
  7. This one was put on hold for a long time because of other projects, but it's (almost) ready for finishing now. The body will be trans red and the neck will have an amber tint clear.
  8. Wait, your profile says your 27, is that right? and you still don't have your license? Oh well maybe it's different in the UK. Here in Texas you don't go anywhere unless you can drive. Luckily I have 3 people in my house who drive, so I can pretty much go anywhere I want anytime.
  9. Just how much adjustment are you expecting to get out of it? Ideally you should only have to adjust the rod very little due to seasonal changes. Are you trying to bring warped necks strait using the truss rod?
  10. To drive of course. I've been putting it off the last two years. Evey time my parents would ask if I wanted to start learning to drive I'd just change the subject.
  11. Thanks guys! We had egg rolls (homemade) and key lime pie for dinner tonight and I'm having a party saturday. We got this sweet foosball table for my birthday, it's butcher block construction with real hardwood, and of course it goes in the indoor shop. I'll have to take some pictures of it. I also got guitar hero 3 and of course I stole the electronics out of it and put it in one of my real electrics. Pics to come as well. I was going to do a quick write up of how to do it (it's not all that complicated anyways) Heck yeah this is a sweet birthday. and I'm getting my license soon.
  12. Yep....it'll be a couple of weeks yet. No problem. Although I might have just found another source for the acoustic sets, and I don't think I can afford to purchase any more electric blanks right now. We're pretty busy as it is and the funds are low if you know what I mean.
  13. As soon as you get some of those black limba acoustic sets ready I'm ready to buy. Just reminding you that I'm here.
  14. Dang thats a lot of entries this month! I guess project guitar is growing. Or maybe we all just have spring fever and are pumping out guitars left and right. Kenny's guitar looks super nice from behind, and I'm a sucker for bubinga. He gets my vote.
  15. It looks just like the top that was on my blue Godin. So yeah I like it, just put a nice light stain over it (maybe blue or red) and your good to go.
  16. All rosewoods darken a bit, but I've never had a piece of coco turn black. All of mine are still pleasing after a few years. Your piece looks good, you might consider going a bit thinner on the fingerboard next time. That will allow more wood behind the trussrod at the same neck thickness which is especially helpful with mahogany necks.
  17. I use the stuff that sets in an hour or so and is cured in 24.
  18. Very well done! Looks great. One thing I noticed is the side of the neck isn't strait, on future guitars/basses you can fix that by routing the edge of the neck with a straightedge and a template bit with a bearing.
  19. +1 to that. I've had some very easy mahogany, and some that was a pain. Indian Rosewood is always easy.
  20. Or does anyone know what style/manufacture these type of tuners are so I can do a decent search? I found sound that look exactly the same (save for the tuning buttons) but they are cheap pings. link
  21. I *think* the problem is the worm gear thats attached to the tuner button deal.
  22. I need to find either some replacement tuners or parts (ie worm gear and maybe pinion gear) for a 1976 Ibanez LP custom. The current tuners gears are worn and they no longer work properly. The owner of the guitar would like them to look like the original ones. This is what the tuners look like, they have a bushing in the front and are screwed in from the back. It's covered, but not sealed. This is what the inside looks like. The worm gear/tuning button slip out of that metal band deal thats holding it in place, so it would be easy to replace if I could find a replacement part. Anybody know where to look? and should I be looking for new tuners that look like these, or replacement parts for the existing ones?
  23. Lots of custom builders spray on a quick coat of shellac on the inside to seal things.
  24. Lol Jehle, you spammed this month! Shoot my birthdays is may 1 so I guess I'll enter. I only have a few photos of this guitar, the customer picked it up just a few days after we finished it. It's a lefty Mahogany back/sides/neck Spruce top Fishman pickup Schaller tuners with ebony buttons Ebony fingerboard with MOP dot inlays
