  1. I guess i'll just pick musical influences For Guitar: Dimebag Every 80's hairmetal guitarist (except Rhoads) Angus Young For Bass: Cliff Burton Steve Digiorgio Greg Christian And i'm gonna get shot for this, but Fieldy. Fieldy is the bassist for Korn if anyone doesn't know. I hate him now, but when I first started, all I wanted to play was "Got The Life." Its easy now. I also drew up a custom bass for him. Here's the specs: 1 string (probably a B ) 2 Frets No tuning machines Plywood body A guitar pickup No controls Extra long strap Basic hardware for holding one string in place. I tell you what, he'd rock that thing!
  2. Being the first post I didn't wanna debunk it immediately lol: so April Fools? HA! Probably lol. If i recall correctly, Gibson is in the process of suing Activision
  3. Here's all the specs I could get for you. I couldn't find an accurate way to measure the thickness of the neck from fretboard to back, because I don't have calipers but here's what I've got through string and rulers! Width at Nut: 1.66" Width at 12th Fret: 2.55" Neck Profile: Soft C (according to tags) Fingerboard Radius: 14" Scale (Nut - 12th Fret): 17 " Scale: (Nut - 21st Fret): 24" There seems to be a double standard as far as measuring goes. Some parts were measured in Standard, and the rest was in Metric. Machine Head pegholes: 17mm Diameter Width at Heel: 65mm Depth at Heel: 26mm Hope that helps! If there's anything else, they're pretty used to me coming in there with rulers and asking for oddball items (truss rod adapters, tuning machine bushings, etc.) They know I buy stuff
  4. Well, as far as the control cavity goes, I meant it looks better than anything i've done "shapewise." The bottom of it looks like it needs to be smoothed out. Did you do it with a drill press or a router?
  5. That control cavity looks a lot better than anything I've made reciently!
  6. I'm going to have to support wes being here. He's a good mod and he's helped Avengers and I out a lot in the creative/building process. The only thing wes said was "everything has not been invented already" and then he made a sarcastic joke. I forget what the joke was at the moment, and i'm too lazy to look back on it, but whatever. It was a joke, and everything else he had to say contributed to the topic. I'm gonna go work on my Corvus now.
  7. There's just something manly about being louder than everyone else, and having everyone else want to be like you
  8. I think the headstock looks fine. When you add the tuners to it, it'll make it look just big enough to be acceptable.
  9. Mine Ken Francis's Sonic: Feather I'll admit that inspiration came from Ken's, and I'll admit that neither of us are pioneers in guitar building. But the fact is that these two are astheticly pleasing to most (Mine's better of course) they're very comfortable to play, they balance well, and they sound pretty damn good. I guess my point is: These two haven't been done already.
  10. That's some nice clean work! The join almost looks like a stray part of the grain or something.
  11. The holy explorer this year is ridiculous http://www.gibson.com/Files/aaFeaturesImag...oly-Xplorer.jpg
  12. If no one replies by tomorrow, I'll head down to my local guitar shop with some calipers and measure for you I don't think i'll find a 51, but I'll see what I can do!
  13. I guess i'll just list off the ones I've always wanted King V Rhoads V Double Rhoads V Reciently I've wanted to build a Les Paul style, and I wanted to do it professionally with a flame maple top, black - amber/black - white/black burst. A while ago, I wanted an explorer/warrior/ML, but the treble horn on all 3 of them has always turned me away after playing them.
  14. When I saw the froster bit work with the tuner shelf it made me wince. I also winced when I saw that you put the round-over bit into action with the router. But now that you've sanded it off and it doesn't look like a warped piece of furniature, I can see where you're going with this and it looks like you're in the right direction (for a corvus). I would go black on the neck, and Home Depot orange with a mustard swirl for the control cavity cover Now that I'm actually looking at it from an artist point of view rather than a critic, I can see some major potential as far as all the coloring goes. I'm thinking 80's with neon colored edges, a really dark body, some kind of crazy neon binding on the neck, and... Know what I mean? Evil mixed with burn-your-face-off fluorescent colors. Heck, I think that finish in the holoflash tutorial might suit this thing. Okay, I think i'm probably going to enter this buildoff lol. You're giving me too many ideas.
  15. Horay, i was right. How long did it take to do it with the router? I'm sure you had to go pretty slow to avoid damaging your bit. I'm asking because there was a thread about a week ago that asked if you could rout out an entire body using just a router.
  16. Sandpaper can help with that. That's how I got the fade on mine to look more like a gradual fade without actually trying to paint a fade. Just be careful though, because you may end up sanding off your dye job.
  17. I actually do the same thing with the angle jack lol. It works better when you loop it through the strap, because the cord follows the curvature of the body. its just better in every way!
  18. well that just looks amazing now! I really like how you moved the jack. I never thought about doing that. It gives me hope if i don't like the jack placement in any future builds!
  19. I somewhat bursted my bass with dye. There's a lot of things on The Wood Whisperer about that as well.
  20. I remember when I first discovered that. Then I figured out why all my favorite guitarists go up to their amp wall and play half of their solos there
  21. My bass has gold hardware, and its red. Its also Honduras Mahogany. I believe African Mahogany will look similar when cleared, only it'll be lighter and more of an orangy color, which will go pretty well with gold and blue IMO. (note) I'm colorblind
  22. That's looking very clean! I would almost assume you had a CNC mill in the shop or something!
