  1. You just can't make an ugly guitar can you?!? Great work and I am very jealous.
  2. They might know on the forum at the gibson website. Hope you find an answer either way though.
  3. From what I understand they were only made in '83 (at least all the ones I've seen have been '83s) and are pretty rare. But it would definitely be cheaper to do your own, just not as collectible.
  4. Thanks guys... I got a nice gift certificate for Home Depot so I am going to get some tools in preparation for my first attempt at building a guitar. I already have one of those 3 in 1 tools with a drill, jigsaw and sander but will probably get the router attachment as well as a rotary tool. Should be pretty cool. Anyway, thanks again.
  5. Good luck... And like Scott said, take lots of pics
  6. I went with the PRS CU24. I'd get one with the tremelo and throw some EMGs in it and be a happy man. Of course I love my Les Paul DC as well so it would be a tough choice, but if it was a free guitar I would go with the PRS.
  7. Went with Randall because I have a 20W practice amp by them that is great. I have to believe that their bigger amps are just killer. Just my $.02...
  8. Very Nice work... I hope you do a tutorial on that process. Great looking guitar(s)...
  9. When I first started playing guitar about 5 years ago, I knew that someday I wanted to learn how to build them. I found out about Roberto Venn and called for some info. I think it was a 3 or 5 month course with classes all day. That kind of blew that out of the water. That's why I'm so glad I found this site with all you guys that are willing to instill your hard earned knowledge on other enthusiasts. I guess that's just my way of saying thanks
  10. I was lloking at the Tom DeLonge strats today and was thinking of getting one but I saw just the body on ebay and it is only routed for one HB. Maybe I'll just get a Jimmie Vaughan or Tex Mex. The EMGs are going to make it a lot better... I'll figure something out
  11. Hey guys, Well I sold my Strat to get my car fixed and it turns out it isn't as bad as first thought. Anyway, I want to build my own strat now and was wondering if anyone has used Mighty Mite parts and if they are any good. I am planning to do either a black or red body with a maple/rosewood neck. I am going to get one of those EMG KH21 sets (Strat guard with two EMG 81s)... Throw some locking tuners on that bad boy and rock on... I could probably get a MM body for about $50 is that a good deal or should I try to find a genuine Fender one? Anyway, thanks for any info...
  12. I know it probably won't help but we have a good one in Phoenix, AZ. It's called Roberto Venn. I was thinking about going there a couple of years ago but didn't have enough money or the time to commit.
  13. You could make a neck that had a headstock shaped like a high heel shoe to complete the image...
  14. Sold the strat to a guy locally... The 2 gibson pickups are still for sale. Still trying to decide if I want to part ways with the LP DC...
  15. Hey guys, Well my car took a giant crap today and I need to sell some stuff so I can get it fixed. I have a set of Gibson pickups (brand new - never used) that I had bought to put in a guitar and never did. 496R and 500T - $100 for both + s/h http://photos.msn.com/imageserver/image.as...Ztg$$ 2000 Fender Floyd Rose Classic Strat (2 DH1 Humbuckers with 2 tone 1 volume and 5 way switch. Has an impression the size of the tip of index finger on top of guitar with a smaller one next to it. These do not go through the paint but they were there when I bought it. Hate to have to sell this but I have no choice. Also, I recently had a jam session with my cousin and some of his "friends" and one of them snagged the floyd whammy bar and the wrenches and string locks for the lock nut. You can bet that pissed me off. - $750 plus s/h http://photos.msn.com/imageserver/image.as...02A$$ http://photos.msn.com/imageserver/image.as...TETlMDC*w$ http://photos.msn.com/imageserver/image.as...G0Q$$ http://photos.msn.com/imageserver/image.as...3JA$$ I have to see what happens, but I may also be selling my '99 Les Paul DC. Plus, if any of you collect sports cards I have some of those for sale as well. If you are intersted e-mail me and I can tell you some of what I have... Thanks Jim
  16. That's actually a pretty cool idea... I was wondering the other day if anyone had done a Jackson Pollack type splatter finish. I thought that might look cool as well
  17. Here is Brian's tutorial for adding a veneer top... http://www.projectguitar.com/tut/veneer.htm
  18. I'm pretty sure I remember seeing a tutorial on applying veneer. You should give it a shot. You mgiht surprise yourself.
  19. I've never seen that finish before... It sure is sweet though
  20. Huh... BucketFoot... * Makes note to self on tape recorder *
  21. I went with Clapton just because he was the first one I heard that made me want to play guitar. But there are way too many good guitarists out there. Who knows, maybe 10-20 years from now some of us might be on a poll like this... Okay, some of you, I mean I will still suck, lets face it
  22. Sweet... Can't wait to get it.
