  1. Its good to see u dont let anything stop u doin what u want, i wish i could make a guitar half as good as that.
  2. bad idea? no! it's ridiculous, therefore it's a good idea! I saw a thread about a guy who was making a permanently wireless bass, great idea for the same reasons But if this is going to be a very used/gigged guitar, I would killswitch it. Paintjobs are a great way to hide just about anything, you could have a black mini toggle on a black pinstripe for instance. Some paint jobs will hide the whole guitar! lol
  3. You had me at hello, and then you gave it an arch top, NIIIIIICCCCCCCCCCCCCCEEEEEEEEEEEEE guitar man! uber cool.
  4. Hey guys, got me a a neck thru roades with QlD maple body sides and a hard maple centre, what I want to know is: Do I have to fill the grain on the QLD maple to aceive a gloss finish. In other words, is it a pourus wood? Thnx in advance for any and all replies.
  5. MAN! I thought mine was beautiful! mines not figured due to the two-fold jump in prices, but it is quarter sawn, and the grain and colour is just, well you know very well yourself. I agree with your blue statement, this thread should be re-done with a more appropriate name.
  6. ALS just sent me THE MOST AWESOME QLD maple body blank, it's the most handsome chunk of wood I've ever seen. Quality and workmanship is top notch, and it only took 4 days to get down to Melbourne. I'm sorry to hear about your bad experience.
  7. It would be easier using a veneer.... it looks pretty swish when its done right.
  8. Rick and Rich, you guys have touched on the respect aspect of this whole issue, and I completly agree, we shouldnt abuse their designs because they have paved the way for this entire industry.
  9. I am thinking of getting some QLD maple Seems it is useful for necks and bodies. On the subject of other Aussie woods, I have tried Tassie oak for a neck and it was good to work with, and sounds a bit darker than the maple (not QLD) neck that I had on the guitar earlier. Here's an interesting list from a wood supplier (the url should take you to a list of aussie timbers filtered for the ones useful for musical instruments) http://www.lazaridestimberagencies.com/austimber.php?S=1
  10. i'm doing something similar with a neck thru neck from stew-mac, but I'm cutting my own wings, your plan should work in theory, but the pickup routs might go over the centre cut, which isn't really a problem I guess. Yeah should work as far as I can see. Not cheap though.
  11. I've just ordered one of those neck-thru pre-done guitar necks from stew-mac, and I'm praying that it doen't get destroyed.
  12. I just bought a QLD maple body blank from the same place, hasn't arrived yet, but it was only an hour ago To change the topic, how does QLD maple sound? ALS says it sounds similar to mahogany...... can't wait till it arrives! Oh, and nice to see so many Aussies on here!
  13. Good question Neil, what fyovanni said was very interesting, things being labelled mahogany without actually being "Mahogany", it's very confusing.
  14. Smack your son! No don't, lol, it's a good thing he has his own opinions of "feel", it's something a good guitarist has to develop. Most people have already answered the warping issue, but may I add that unfinished wood gets VERY dirty, this does not feel good to play on.
  15. Thanks man, your thread has help me heaps planning everything out.
  16. Knobs and switchs? What do they do? lol I forgot to put them in the design website , It's going to be a single voloume and a 3-way toggle switch. Gold, of course. Wow I'm definately going to go ahead with this one, looks like I've "Struck a chord" with this design..... Please exuse the pun. But thanx for the confidence boosters, guys.
  17. I'm glad you like the headstock, I've never done bevels before, is it the painting or the actual shaping of the bevels that is a headache? Because I'm not an acomplished luthier . It's a maple thru neck with alder wings, it might make a nice natural - or even dyed finish I agree.
  18. I wouldn't really use Wishbass as a gold standard for anything.... +1
  19. Dimebag taped his neck pickup like that, that being said, I wouldn't want tape on my guitar..... When you say loud, do you mean the amp is up loud or your picking loud?
  20. It went up, that's a REALLY nice looking neck, I'd get one but it sounds like it's hard to maintain...... And then there's the price. Your lucky you got one when you did
  21. Howdy doody good builders, I put foward to you a design and colour scheme, most important of all, DO YOU LIKE THE HEADSTOCK? http://i297.photobucket.com/albums/mm220/a...stomscheme1.jpg I absolutly love it, but some of my friends thinks it looks iffy. But they're wrong, yes? Also if you want to design a pointy (Jackson) guitar and colour it, check out this link: http://www.jcfonline.com/resources/csgen/JCFCustomShop.htm. Happy designing!
  22. If you end up going a head with this job i'd love to hear how it turns out.
  23. Gah! no photos! congrats on the builds though, they sound nice.
  24. I love zebrano, and lp's but Iv'e never seen them together, can't wait to see how it turns out.
