  1. Hi, I have one of the "pullers" from Stew Mac and it works great. Just be sure to put a cloth between it and your finish before using. Peace, Dave
  2. He does some very nice original work. No CNC, all by hand. Peace, Dave ← yup thats him you dealt with him before? the body looks great in the pictures. adam ←
  3. Hi, Looks like it is from Dave Bauer in Indiana. True? Peace, DavP.S. He makes some pretty nice stuff that a guy can finish.
  4. Hi, Assuming that you have all the rest of the wiring of the pickups correct, solder the gounds to the back of the pot where you have the highest number of other grounds (called star grounding). Peace, Dave
  5. Hi, He winds them hotter (or not), plus I conferred with him on pot and cap values. It turned out great. I use a "secret" recipe of amber and clear oils. After I'm done, I wax with ACTUAL carnauba wax, not the auto stuff. E-mail me at dlblackburn1@msn.com and I'll send you photos. I'c post one here if I knew how......computer man, I'm not! Peace, Dave
  6. Hi, If your budget will allow, and if your don't like the pups you already have, contact Mike Gray at mgray55@hotmail.com for a great set of Chubtones. They will set you back about $150 or so, but Mike will voice them for your woods. I just finished a totally mahogany strat with Chubtones and an oil finish, and it sounds great! Peace, Dave
  7. Hi, Don't let anybody stop you from making something you really want to experiment with. I would suggest that you chamber the body, and if that doesn't ease the "brightness" enough, add a neck of mahogany or black korina. I made a LP type with a chambered naturally-stained maple body, black korina/pao ferro neck, and 490/498 pickups, amd seasoned Lp players loved it. It found a very happy home. Used an oil finish, too. So you CAN break some of the rules! Peace, Dave
  8. Hi, I totally agree. 5-way and tone to bridge and neck. Wonderful versatility and sound. Peace, Dave
  9. Hi, I totally agree. 5-way and tone to bridge and neck. Wonderful versatility and sound. Peace, Dave
  10. Hi, Let's see: Fiberglass over wood. Of course, you could always put strings on a brick! Just kidding. The comments about Jack White IMO are correct. There is a reason the best guitars are made of wood with a niro or an oil finish, IMO, of course. Peace, Dave
  11. Hi, When it comes to "wings" with a maple neck-thru, I've had very good success with swamp ash, Korina, and mahogany. Peace, Dave
  12. Hi, In my experience, the chambered body gives a lot more acoustic resonance to the unplugged guitar. My local physics guy says that that, in turn, changes the way the string vibrates through its arcs and alters the sound slightly. Is this true? Don't know for sure, but I've made amny solid body guitars and then changed only the body to being chambered while leaving everything else the same. The chambered ones always sound a bit more "full". Then again, maybe I'm full of it!! Peace, Dave
  13. Hi, I've used everything from Rio Grande Texas and BBQ hums to Harmonic Design Vintage Plus to Seymour Duncan SH-1n, SH-1b, and SH-4. As the previous poster stated, it all depends on the style you're going for. Peace, Dave
  14. Thanks for all the help, Lovecraft! Peace, Dave
  15. Thanks, anyway. I appreciate the help. I'll lok for the 5-lug model. Any sources you can give me? Peace, Dave
  16. Hi, I'd go with a Bartolini ZBS70 in the neck and a ZBS80 in the bridge. Great clean sounds that can be split, tapped, etc. And can be overdriven beautifully. I would get ahold of ron@starspickups.com Peace, Dave
  17. Hi again, I hate to be a bother, but my 5-way lever switches only have 4 lugs on each side. Is there a way to use these? Would it be better to go: 1) Bridge split 2) bridge hum 3) both hums 4) Neck hum 5) Neck split Peace, Dave
  18. Thank you, Thank you. I really appreciate the replies and all the help. Are there any other ways to maybe vary the positions on the 5-way switch so it also works? Peace, Dave
  19. Hi, OK, I'm embarrassed. How do I wire an Anderson H1 in the neck and an Anderson H3+ in the bridge to a 5-way two-sided blade switch so that I can get 5) neck alone humbucker 4) neck split single coil 3) both hums 4) bridge split single coil 5) bridge alone humbucker Being that I'm dense, I need the color wires to waht pole on the switch, etc. I've searched but can't find this. Please help. Tahnks and Peace, Dave
  20. Hi, One other thing to consider is to do away with the need for long-shaft pots. Just rout the control cavity deeper so that regular-length shafts will work. I've done this many times, and it works, unlike some of the other "bright" ideas I've had. Peace, Dave
  21. Hi, A few possibilities for you - Duncan SH-1 bridge is great for what you've described, also the Bartolini ZBS80 is very good, along with the Gibson 500TPeace, Dave
