  1. That's a beautiful guitar!! Great design, and I especially dig the headstock. I see that you have an eye inlay on the fretboard as well as a nice headstock inlay. I can't find any detailed pics in the thread of the one on the board; would you mind sharing?
  2. hmmm, perhaps my post about a natural top was a sign. Hope the next round goes better for you. I know it's frustrating to work for hours on something just to go back and have to undo/redo it!
  3. This is a great build! I'd have left the top natural, but it's looking great the way it is! A real classic.
  4. That is a VERY nice axe!! Incredible work!!
  5. Very cool! I like the design, I'd also like to see a shot of the back and a full frontal of the body would be cool too!
  6. I have no problem believing that. Ebony is some heavy stuff. I'd also be prepared for some neck dive unless you have a lot of weight in the butt too (just the way I like 'em )
  7. If I were building it, I would also add a bit more meat at the narrowest part of the body. There is a bass builder in France who builds basses with a similar design. They are awesome! www.jpbasses.com It will be cool to see a guitar with a similar (but still unique in it's own right!) style! Like Fryovanni said - BUILD IT!
  8. I like it! I'm not too sure what mailman means about the upper horn getting in the way assuming that the strap will be anchored in the traditional place there at the end of it. The only problem I see is that it may be a little long to retain a good balance. Maybe bring in the horn an inch. For best balance you would want the upper horn to end around the 12th fret usually. Well, at least that's the rule of thump (i.e basses) The only thing I'm not sure I like is the knob placement. That part of the body is already pretty narrow and I think it would look better if the knob was moved closer to the bridge. Of course, this is just my opinion. A flame maple knob would look cool too! I might also round out the bit at the bottom too just because when it's sharp like that it calls more attention to itself than I think it needs for good flow. All in all, that is a really cool design! Can't wait to see it built!
  9. That is a very special Tele! Great job. You should invest in a hands free beer delivery system (most likely to be found in helmet form) for those times when you need both hnds to spray your finish!
  10. awesome basses! I can't wait to see how the finish turns out! Then it will be time for some sound clips. You must have some giant hands, because I am 6'6'' and big hands, and 35" scale fretless is more than big enough for me. It'd be a real challenge to get around on a 38" scale, almost like playing my upright!
  11. +1 on the sound clips! That finish really took this bass to a new level! Great work!
  12. The Aguilar OBP-3 is quite small, and sounds great. It has options for the knob orientation, so you can specify that. http://www.bestbassgear.com/aguilar-obp3-preamp.htm edit: btw that green thing in the pic is a pick for size comparison.
  13. Looks good. I don't think I've ever seen or heard an oak fingerboard. I'd be curious to see/hear that.
  14. I love Purple guitars, too. Don't worry! Actually I have a slab of Pink Ivory that I am going to make into the top for a guitar for my girl, so she will literally have a pink guitar! This one looks awesome, and I bet your customer loves it!
  15. I love the neck laminates! Wonderful wood choices, the only thing I'd have done differently is to get some flame maple to really add that special touch, but that is totally subjective. Some may see that as over the top. I like the shape too, it's got a nice flow. P.S: I (clearly) agree with you. Bass is great!!! Including this one!
  16. Looking great! I can't wait to see the grain in that maple pop when you sand and finish it! With that wood combo you should get a nice percussive tone with some good chunky lows and nice bright highs... mmmmmm funky.
  17. A bunch of fantastic guitars again this month! I like them all a lot, but my vote went to the Zipper Cherry. The design and carve on that guitar are awesome in my opinion. It's unique and ballsy, while remaining elegant. The upper horn is really fantastic and compliments the long lower horn nicely. I also love the way the upper bout balances the long horn out. The headstock carve is the icing on the cake. Great work! I also really like Doug's custom. It reminds me quite a bit of Warwick's Vampyre bass, but with some nice improvements, i.e the carve, inlays, etc. The fit and finish look terrific and I love the buckeye burl top. I would have given it my vote, but to my eyes the Zipper was a more original design. I am always impressed with BigD's Tele's, and this one is spectacular, but I think a Tele would have to really blow me away to get my vote, simply because I've seen so many of them. I would, however, be proud to have any one of his gitters in my collection! The oddboy is a terrific use of resources, and deserves votes simply based on that. It's great to see that a guitar can be built without shelling out a fortune! Even though I don't personally like the headstock, I love the way the truss rod cover reiterates the design. No basses this month... I'll have to do something about that soon..... Congrats everybody!
  18. meh, I gues the way I look at it is if the wood has character, why cover it? A brown stain will look nice, but I guess it's just not my stizzy, yo. But clearly that's just my opinion, so I encourage everyone to build to their own taste obviously.
  19. This looks pretty cool. I like the design. And another vote for natural finish. That maple has some awesome color!
  20. Sweet design! Sort of reminiscent of a Carl Thompson, but still very original. I love the woods, this is gonna be one to keep an eye on. Make sure you give us more progress photos! Is it going to be fretted/fretless? How many strings? What electronics? Also, on an off topic note, I am assuming based on your pup's name that you are a fellow Nightmare Before Christmas fan. I am going to be building a guitar for my girl soon that is going to have either Jack's head, or maybe his whole bust on the 11-13th fret. Edit: I can't quite tell what I am looking at in the first pic. I see the wood with the bass outline drawn on it, and then behind that is a picture of a bass? Or a drawing (very nice if it is!)?
  21. sweet design! I love the carve as well.
  22. I love that design, it's easily my favorite "pointy" guitar design I've seen. It's going to be cool to see this thing finished. I wouldn't be surprised if some more metal heads (among whom I count myself even though I listen to all types of music) would want to have you build these for them. It's really cool to have a talented luthier like LGM to help you take it to the next level! Potential + education = greatness!
