  1. i dont know what all came up in your search so ill just tell you what i do. take the strings off, mask the fret bars/wire with 2 layers of tape, and go at it with a 1/4" round file. then sand the wood a little with like 320 grit, clean it up with a damp cloth, then put some lemon oil on there. tell all your friends and tell them to tell their friends what you can do... i can make a good $20-30 for about 2 hours worth of work just scalloping and cleanin up the fretboard
  2. 2 more quick questions i want to make a killswitch for the normal circuitry (the neck and bridge PUPs) so should i take the hot lead off of the switch (thats currently connecting to the volume pot) and take it to the spdt, then put a wire off that same spdt lead back to the volume pot? for the p90 KS, should i just wire the PUP wire to the spdt then that lead to the volume pot? hope all this makes sense. thanks again guys edit: this is the schem im using Blue Guitar 4Way
  3. check all the connections and such, its probably something simple like that
  4. do you have any pics or links to the body you have? if the single coil-sized p90s are just as good, i wouldnt bother with it since it would appearantly be a lot of trouble. i like guitars routed from the back without pickguards better anyway
  5. personally, i would go with p90s instead of the standard fender-type single coil (well i assume thats what youre talking about). IMO p90s are the only kind single coils to have. if its a fat strat, as i also assume, it should be easy to make some room for the p90s using a small file. hey you could put a p90 in the neck position and a standard single coil in the middle oh yea, i like the choice of the quarter pounder
  6. IMO covered humbuckers look MUCH better. but uh i dont think it will affect tone much if at all
  7. mark, lol, see i want to keep my tele sound intact, but i love the p90 sound so much i just want to stick it in there. this is pretty much my project guitar (even though it is my main one) to have fun with and advertise my work to anyone that doesnt know what im doing, ive got a tele (obviously) and a reverse phase switch in between the volume and tone pots w/ new electronic components, but im going to install a ,mighty mite p90 PUP and a set of fender noiseless tele PUPs.. and the strawberry ice mod as well
  8. i got my set of noiseless tele pickups in the mail, however the bridge PUP wouldnt work so my new set is on the way. a few days ago i decided i would throw a p90 in the mix and put it in a "middle" position on my tele. since theres basically no room for anything else in my control cavity, i think im going to wire it to a killswitch routed under the pickguard near the tip of the lower horn... along with a strawberry ice mod and a killswitch for the normal circuitry. and just have the p90 to toss in whenever i want, or solo it for that matter. what do you guys think about that PUP configuaration? its a mighty mite p90.. nothing fancy but i like it pretty good could someone help me with the killswitch wiring btw? i think ive got it but i wanna make sure i do it right. thanks
  9. you mentioned magnets in your first post, i THINK only a few high dollar PUPs use different magnets on the bass and treble side. you probably know more about this than i do, but just in case
  10. id stay away from those. im all for some bargain shopping, but some things you just cant **** your guitar out of. if you havent redone the electronics, id do that and just replace the bridge PUP with somethin real good until you can save up some more money for the neck PUP
  11. gound the PUP covers maybe?
  12. i use aluminum foil and the adhesive spray can stuff
  13. wow... i hope you can get this thing marketed. im sure MANY people would be into this thing. hell id probly buy one for no other reason than trying it out. i really like the silver design and especially on the red guitar. one other thing you could do is make it available in red LEDs or make it easy to change them out to whatever colors someone would want. i dont know if thats feasible (sp) or mentioned before (dont have time to read all of this thread lol). well good luck!
  14. i bought a 1-speed 6volt cordless drill by black and decker the other night (a steal for $16!) because i really have no tools and im wondering if i can use a dremel tool attachment to cut out just a little in my PUP cavity to make room for my p90.. is that ok to do? edit: i meant 2 speed, forward and reverse
  15. im usually wrong, but i dont think theres any differences (except like pole-pieces) in the way bass pickups and guitar pickups are made. with my lack of knowledge, i would try it anyway if its not too much trouble
  16. ive only shielded one guitar and i just doubled-up normal aluminum foil using that adhesive spray stuff to get it in there and it works perfectly. i just bought the spray and jacked my moms foil lol
  17. i started to think that about the reverse phase also. oh well, not my bass anyway. i think ill try the parallel out for him just to see how it goes. lol ill pass that last advice onto my friend (also a prospected bassist for my band, so not a bad idea
  18. just figure out how to do it yourself, dont throw money away when you can do the exact same thing and learn something LOL the other day i saw a kid in the guitar shop pay $35 to have his guitar strung, tuned, and truss rod adjusted i cant help but laugh for the guy
  19. ahh.. well good luck on your search. i knew it couldnt be for a guitar lol
  20. hmm.. ive never seen wattage included on any pot specs. isnt watts how much power an appliance (or w/e you want to call it) takes? are you sure you mean watts? regardless, have you searched those sites for them?
  21. tomorrow this kid is bringing me his pbass to fix up for him. i think its a squire but i know its a cheapy. has anyone tried reverse phasing one of the coils or know that it does/doesnt work? he wants me to do some "crazy" stuff to it but thats all that i can think of... ive never messed with a pbass before either also, can someone give me a link to instructions to turn a 2 wire humbucker (split-coil pbass PUP in this case) into a 4 wire? thanks
  22. 2w? i dont know what that means but my fave place to buy pots and such is guitarelectronics.com. stewmac.com and allparts.com (i believe) also carry electronic stuff
