  1. Thanks for sharing this. It's a good reminder for me not to piss around with tools.
  2. I mean a guitar where the whole of the body and neck are from 1 piece of wood. I dont mean through neck. Pics please if you do know of any. Thanks
  3. Never heard of them. But i've never looked cos I like that nice heavy, slow and smooth feel when you turn them.
  4. I got it Chris I agree, this build is epic win, and looks like a complete treasure to play. I would lose myself in the controls themselves, so maybe not for me to play just yet! On a side note, Dave, my girlfriend bought me the book Hand Made Hand Played, this past Christmas. I flipped the book over to the back cover, saw a picture of the Sungazer, and exclaimed, "I know that guy! I've talked to him online!" Definitely felt like the biggest geek that Christmas, lemme tell ya. You have a girlfriend called Dave??
  5. I acctually froze and rubbed my eyes when I saw that first pic. I struggle to believe a human could even make something like that. I will never see better than this. Amazing work. I'm even gonna put it as my desktop background. Thanks so so so much for sharing, it made my day.
  6. If you didn't have a neck pickup then you would see the neck tenon (which is usually covered up by the neck pickup). But if you put a veneer over you wouldn't see anything. Les paul juniors have no pickup at the end of the fingerboard and the tenon is covered up by the pickguard.
  7. I don't think glue type is too much to worry about. Just don't get anything too cheap and focus your mind on getting a good glueing surface with the wood(The surfaces should touch EXACTLY all the way along as this is where the glueing will go wrong if anything). I should mention that everyone has their own idea about glue and this could be changed by: the age of the glue, humidity, if any water has got into the glue etc. I have had little experience with different glues and I'm just usuing this unbranded wood glue (from aldi supermarket I think) and I have never had any problems. Anyway, Just my point of view. Sorry if I offended anybody.
  8. To do the white/silver splatter why not just put paint on a toothbrush and slide your thumb across the bristles to flick the paint on. Should be easier then faffing with a spray gun, but just an idea.
  9. Hey everyone. Its been a while since I posted on this in progress thread but here goes. I have routed the truss rod channel and glued on the wings. Once the glue had dried I started carving the top. I carved a letter "M" onto the top horn, this still needs some more sanding as it is still lumpy in places and rough in the little groves. Sanding round this letter is very fiddely and takes along time (makes me want to change my name so I have an easier letter sometimes). I also partly cut out the headstock, routed one of the pickup cavitys and carved the bottom horn. One of the things i have learned from this is not to have a neck angle (at least not as much as 3 degrees) on a through neck guitar as there is so much waste. Anyway, I'll let the pictures do the rest of the talking. The guitar as it is so far. Top horn with the "M" carving The headstock shape partly done. The neck pickup cavity with quite a bit of burning on the sides
  10. maybe it's for cutting side dot inlays... or ants.
  11. I have also been looking for the measurements of a gibson explorer and I found these 2 sites. http://www.ultimate-guitar.com/forum/showthread.php?t=827134 <scroll down on that one. http://www.sevenstring.org/forum/standard-...asurements.html Not much but I hope it helps and good luck with making it.
  12. When people say they are selling a 43mm slotted nut is that an E to e measurement or the whole length of the nut? Need an answer soonish. Thanks guys.
  13. Your doing well. Keep up the good work. You have some nice tools by the way *is jealous*.
  14. I voted for Daniel's Nova neck through. It's just so simple and clean and well made. I don't usually like the look of mahogany that much but that guitar is enough to change my mind. Simo's MK5: I think there is a very good chance of this one winning and it's a nice guitar. But un-dyed/stained maple is not really my thing. Awsome guitar none the less
  15. Not to much action recently, sorry guys. I got the other side of the binding glued and shaped. Things should pick up again once the truss rod channel has been routed. I am going to go to a friends house to route the channel as he has more experiance with a router than my dad and I (we do have a router and quite a nice one but we have only used it once and that was testing it on a bit of softwood with a fairly blunt bit.) I already have the head ears glued on so this might make routing a bit harder. I think I'll do that thing that they do on those spanish youtube vids on the tutorial section with the bits of metal. When I do get the channel routed I can then glue the sides on, route the pickup cavitys, glue the fingerboard on etc. and it should all get going again. Thanks for reading if you got this far, and sorry it's not nearly as interesting as the other projects.
  16. I think camo is a good idea. Would you do it as a stain so you could still see the grain?
  17. Think out side the box. Sound insulate the baby, wrap him/her in pillows or something. Okaaaaaaay bad idea.
  18. Sorry everyone I misread the diagram. I assumed that the DPDT was 2 position. As it is 3 position that would work fine. I apologise.
  19. Sorry, I'm afraid that wont work. You will not be able to get humbucker mode on the switch as the 2 settings on the dpdt will be: up=singlecoil down=no signal. You can either just not bother with the kill switch or have a second dpdt switch. If you want any help just message me and if you want i will write you a schematic.
  20. *is speechless* That is an amazing piece of work. And welcome to the forum by the way.
  21. Even if the neck is at the wrong angle, because it's bolt on you can put shims in after its all finished and assembled. I don't think there will be a problem. Just go for it.
  22. SG's where made with no neck angle for a little while and had the neck raised above the body. It said so in Melvyn Hiscock's book. I would go with what anderekel said and post pictures though.
  23. I was thinking about crowning. I assumed re-crowning and dressing are the same thing. Never mind.
  24. They wouldn't affect them. But i have no idea why anyone would want to slap a cow on their guitar. Make sure to put it on GOTM or at least on an in progress thread cos this should be interesting.
