  1. That right there is what set me off. I wasn't trying to flame you (which I think I may have done ) and for that I apologize. My point remains the same, you're saying that the guitarist for one of the biggest bands is 'an overrated dumb guy'. Now does that make any sense to anyone? If you would've said, "He's not very fast, and he doesn't know alot of theory," that would have been fine by me. When you come in completely antagonizing someone, even Britney (she must be doing something right!) that's a different story. When you get to his level, you can say he sucks, deal? I work darn hard on my playing skills a lot of the time, and I can't dream about sweeping like he was. He's easily top 5% of the player population from what I've seen around here. Sure, there are better guys, but that doesn't make him bad.
  2. In other words, bar clamps are fine. I have both, and usually use sash clamps just because i like them better. I've used the bar clamps with no issues in the past, though.
  3. Lookin pretty good. You gonna do any other kind of edge treatment? What are you doing for a neck?
  4. Britney makes also quite a bit of money out of what she does. No way I am gonna give her her dues. And Petrucci owns Tremonti a thousand times. (Vai, on the other hand, owns both twice as much). I know a thousand guitarists that are as fast or faster than Tremonti, and most of them have got more musical taste as well. From one article with a sort of workshop with Tremonti I got to know more about his "compositional skills" and "technique". He is an overrated dumb guy. He's got no talent at all. By the way, I heard clips of Tremonti with less effects and distortion. It sounded like pure $%&/§$?€. ← Who really gives a crap how he writes stuff? If he's so dumb, and you, apparently, are so smart, why is he the one living the dream? I call it smarts and hard work. You don't become one of the best known bands in the world by being dumb, that's for sure. He writes what's popular, and supports himself (very well I might add), so you basically call him a wanker. When you're on the top of the charts I might be a bit more apt to listen to your opinion.
  5. I'd say stay on the safe (big) side for your first neck. It will give you the confidence you need when your first neck doesn't actually blow up when you're through with it. Then, down the road when you have more experience, go for a thin neck.
  6. No exciting suggestion from me, but I've gotten walnut from antlersexpress before, and you won't be dissapointed.
  7. No, it's tacky. I've seen it, and when it wears it is aweful looking.
  8. I use #6, but that's slightly big. A #4 might be better, but I'm not sure if it will thread into the baseplate.
  9. I think I may finally post pictures of a project this time. Rich talked me into it . He also talked me into the Ziricote, so we'll see how that goes. Finally started work on it last night, but the riser block hasn't come yet, so I'm getting a little bit annoyed.
  10. Regardless, he's a lot stinkin' better than I am. I would like to hear him play that stuff closer to clean. I suspect there's a lot more sloppiness than one can see from the video going on there.
  11. I'd kill myself with all that annoying hum! He is very good, though. In the last discussion we had about him, I think I was the only person that thought he was good
  12. DEADLY! I really don't see how you can let a guitar like that go . I don't think I have the willpower, yet. Keep up the great work.
  13. You really want to clean the filed edge with a fine stone. If you think that the scraper is leaving a good finish without cleaning it up from the package, you'll be amazed by it after proper sharpening. I like and 'over aggressive hook' personally. I like it to work fast, that's one reason I like it better than paper.
  14. The rattlecan stuff is what's good for spraying. If you use a compressor/spray gun set-up, the deft probably isn't for you. I've tried spraying the Deft that comes in quarts (even though it specificly says not to spray it on the can), and it really is pretty aweful stuff for spraying. I think they add retarder to help the finish flow out, so it takes forever to dry.
  15. Make your own. That's what I do. If you make a template you can turn them out real quick. The only real issue is that the wood wants to split where you drill on the sides.
  16. Or you can make the bridge customized to your neck angle.
  17. I've had the same problem, so I'd love to know if there's a solution.
  18. There's much more of a learning curve with cutting tools, but for almost every application, I think blades are FAR superior when used properly. One good example is switching from heavy use of sandpaper to using scrapers. Scrapers test your patience to begin with (mostly figuring out how to sharpen correctly), but once they've been mastered, they give you a superior finish, save you time, and save you money that would be spent on abrasives.
  19. It also helps the headstock snap off. Just ask bluespresence. If it's in your posession the whole time, there's probably no problem, but I don't really know the whole flying drill, I've never flown commercially.
  20. It still can't hurt to take the tension off the neck when there's a good chance it'll take a few jolts. No reason to take chances.
  21. He's the guy that runs this site. Go to www.universaljems.com, that's his website. If you order from him you'll be supporting the site, too .
  22. That's what I call an introduction . Welcome, and the guitar looks great.
  23. That's the only way I've ever been zapped. Nothing has ever come through the guitar, but I've had a hot mic on a couple occasions. Getting zapped in the lip repeatedly is no fun.
  24. I was thinking saddle until he said 6.5mm. I'm not much into metric, but unless I'm way off, that's just really high action. Just check everything we've said, and report back. What kind of guitar is it? Depending on the problem it might be a good one to practice on and not worry about screwing up.
