  1. I have some tapes that I recorded on a Teac 80-8 unit that I don't own anymore (it was a great unit though.) I'd like to mix these down but it is for personal nostalgia reasons and I don't want to sink a lot of cash into it. Does anyone know if these tapes are compatible with other 8 track units... like the Teac/Tascam 38 series? or others?
  2. Thanks Rich, the local yard has nice alder but for some reason, it is the only wood that they carry that you have to order in quantity(?)
  3. Strat® necks will fit into a Tele® pocket and intonate correctly. Gaps will however be apparent at the corners unless you use a 22 fret neck with the appropriate overhang. Tele® necks fit only Tele® neck pockets, they will not fit Strat® pockets correctly nor will they intonate without modifying the heel or the pocket fit.
  4. Yep what Fry mentioned will get you closest to reducing the sanding. I use a small sanding station and the orbitals (away from an edge) with a fine grit and do very little hand sanding as well.
  5. Are you selling bodies without knowing what size this hole is normally? Good luck with that. Sorry, I just read your other post and found this to be a school project and it seems your answer was posted correctly above.
  6. Wow, bad news. I hope the family is doing well. If you are like me, you get an image of people and their personalities from their posts. To me he was a guy you imediately felt at home with. "Hey UncleJ, What going on in the woodshed today?" and from there it would lead to an endless discussion about wood and life.
  7. yes but what you keep missing is one will do the vast majority of the work. I agree with the others that stated that you should commission (Pay for) the work. There are many that will "ghost build" for you and possibly even cut you a deal on several pieces. Good Luck, and since you recently joined, stay awhile, read up on some of the past threads and get a better idea of how the business works and where you truly feel your designs match up to other designs.
  8. Greetings KSP! Hope you enjoy your stay and we expect to see great things from you... lots of good advice around here
  9. WWTWD (What would the W.O.D. Do)? I have a hard time burning my scraps
  10. Some very interesting designs! I really like the abstractness of the last one. Is there enough room between the neck and the lower horn to reach the upper frets? hard to tell from the picture. Love the headstock!
  11. Where is the bad advise picture? What you may gain in loosing the rasping sound you will probably loose in tone quality and sustain.
  12. Looks like this will turn out very nice. Congrats. I am a firm believer in a kit (or in you case) a parts build as a very good way to get your feet wet. Granted you don't gain the woodworking experience, but many questions get answered on a build like this and you wind up better prepared for the next one!.
  13. To get a better price, I bought more Alder than I needed so.. 3 piece body blank - edges joined but not glued $39 20x13x1.75 I have 4 of these available
  14. I guess if I wanted to be a smart arse, I would answer Yes, its called a burst, thousands and thousands have been made... really, you could burst out to black like on many Fender models that would hide the seem completely. There are a few tutorials on the main page. Do you have spray equipment? I see on your other post that both the top and bottom pieces are the same thickness, might be hard to bind that deep down. But also, many guitar don't hide that maple/mahogany seem at all and it look great. Plan it out and you should be fine. Pics?
  15. Most specifically a 480 series 480 = mandarin/red 481 = natural/wooden 482 = red/black Burst (Below) There was also some discussion regarding the pickguard being original, but the conclusion is that is original.
  16. Westheideamann, All great ideas kind sir. I have a stock pile of knobs ( got a buddy with a lathe), i have made several nice clocks and such and will be checking in on the compressed, epoxied dominoes thing too. I think there is a market for that. But alas it comes down to time, I have none. I do have some nice scaps though. Ashly Judd...yum
  17. Kudos on the work AND the Pine for Practice choice!
  18. Ok, this may be an ice cubes to eskimos thing since everyone here probably has the same problem... too much scrap wood. I don't want to throw the stuff away or burn it since most of it is very useable and very good wood. The pieces are just too small for me to use for guitars and I don't have the time for another hobby. Just pay for the shipping and I'll send you whatever you need. generally... Just please don't ask me to cut to specific shapes, unusable stuff has been cut off already. PM me
  19. it's so CLEAN! Congrats! I need to find something to do with scrap wood, it is getting out of hand.
  20. Well of course they did. It just took one technician to pedal (a.k.a. The Gilligan's Island Method)
  21. Agreed, bad idea - I like the way Prostheta put it
