  1. Thanks for that Iron gear tip! I think the first tele I build is going to get the jailhouse pickup. That thing sounds awesome!
  2. I found a page on here full of pickups are pretty good prices. I remember someone recommending it but I can't find it in the search. They had a ton of pickups for like 30-50$, more importantly, they had a dual rails pickup for a tele bridge. Anyone know which site I'm talking about? Thanks for the help!
  3. An awesome deal, not at awesome deal.
  4. Skil plunge router, router table, and 32pc carbide router bit set, all for 75$!
  5. I think the "turtle" is actually kinda cool. Night gem is alright too. The rest of them I really dont care for. But you did a good job!
  6. just to let you know - that comes off a little bit ass kissy... as far as i am aware drak has never been one to provide absolute specific info the way you seem to want, dont want to speak for him and he is free to correct me but after all this time i am fairly sure he is another of the 'you should really learn how to work it out for yourself ' crowd I'm sorry my saying hiscock's book isn't the essential item for guitar building has apparently hurt your feelings so. But if you take a gander at Drak's work, you will see he deserves any praise thrown his way. And I never said Drak will provide you with details, all I said is you can look at his work as to how it's done. So while you're not speaking for him, please don't speak for me either. You've made your points, and I've made mine. So just drop it dude. No one cares about our back and forth, I assure you.
  7. No hijack intended. And the OP need look no further than Drak to see how a build is done.
  8. No worries with that Wez. I haven't even heard of that book or considered it. My biggest point is, you can introduce a beginner to guitar building, give him that book, and I can guarantee he wouldn't be able to use it to do a complete build. The book does have some good sections, but I found the best resource is the search function, and asking questions. A lot of you guys are VERY good at what you do, and it's good to get the information from someone you can directly interact with.
  9. and that right there is the problem with trying to learn everything from a forum - ask 1 question, get 20 different answers... dont have the knowledge to know which is best for you the pickup thing can be worked out in 30 seconds with a ruler. Neck pecket depth is really worked out with the neck angle bit which is covered in detail and relates to choices you make with materials and hardware. It does describe two ways to do a headstock splice... with specific measurements - it works well. I am sure it mentions common headstock angles too, but i could be remembering wrong on that. With your 3 points right there, you went into more depth and detail than the book did on these areas. When something says "Make your own ________" it had better be pretty detailed go over every aspect of whatever it is you are wanting to make. This one was detailed, but did not go over every aspect.
  10. That is the most beautiful telecaster I have ever seen.
  11. the books name is "how to build your own electic guitar" not "plans for an electic guitar" there are some things you need to do in the planning stange Right. Because none of what I pointed out goes into building a guitar.
  12. No problem! I dont get all bent out of shape! People can disagreee respectfully, no need for any static!
  13. To expand on this I read Chris's PDF file and it was very informative, and his youtube videos are very informative as well.
  14. I have to respectfully disagree. If you read it, it doesn't tell you how to build one. Just gives general ideas. There are some great builders here, i mean just great great builders, and a lot of them like the book. But when I got it I was looking for more specific details, such as how deep to route for humbuckers, neck pockets, how much to angle a headstock, etc.... And this book really doesn't have that. It does have scale lengths and the measurements on the fretboard for them, and does have a nice section on how to angle a neck properly. But the search function here can provide you with the exact same info for free. I personally went through the book once or twice and just resold it. My first build was disasterous, and there are only things you will learn from just sheer experience.
  15. I'm always so impressed with this guys work. Nice guitar!
  16. I don't recommend the Hiscock book. I bought it, and it told me nothing more than I already found out just by using the search function.
  17. Thanks for all the suggestions and find guys! I have them bokmarked and will be buying from those guys soon! Thanks a million!
  18. Yeah, I'm just going to stick to my original statement. It's pretty broad and leaves it open to interpretation. I'm sorry you interpreted it as me asking for 5A maple for 20$, but I kinda figured common sense would dictate that I didn't expect something like that. I am just having a hard time finding 1/4" thick maple on e-bay. If no one here wants to make any money, it's purely their business.
  19. Big enough to cover a tele with a little excess, everything I get is usually 24x14. As far as figuring as price, as good as I can get for as cheap as I can get.
  20. I have paypal, and have done business on here before. Looking for some flame maple topwood for a guitar.
  21. Thanks for all the help! I am wanting to do this on a future telecaster build. Gonna practice on a scrap one first and see how well it does. Do you guys just use clorox with rags like suggested up there? Or do you have a special application?
  22. Would like to use a white colored stain for a look like a PRS modern eagle, anyone know where I can pick something like this up at? I've looked everywhere I could think of (stew mac, lmii, a few other places) and just can't find the stuff. Anyone have any suggestions on where to look? I owned one of these and I suspect they used a white on it instead of just sanding the light blue back for the effect.
