  1. I have melvyns book and kochs book. Siminoffs book isnt very specific on anything you can get from the other two, but i read it anyways. I was looking for a magazine, either bi monthly or quartlery. Thanks, but not exactly what Im lookin for.
  2. Havent found a magazine dealing with building or modding guitars. Am I missing something? There are magazines for walking, weddings, photography, blah blah blah. I figure there has to be some publication available for luthiers(or wannabees) Flipping through the stew mac catalague just isnt cutting it anymore Anyone with any ideas?
  3. Sold all of my digitech gear because of the lack of seemless patch changing, even after I upgraded. Sounds like you made the right choice
  4. 80w90 Smells way worse than even burned ATF. I have to work in that muck every day, would NOT want to be reminded of that while playing guitar.
  5. I used the search function already, and was just curious if there were any other reasons for locking tuners on a hardtail setup besides.... THEY LOOK COOL LESS WINDINGS ON THE POSTS FASTER STRING CHANGES Do they actually keep the guitar in better tune than a good set of grovers or schallers? What about weight. Im already nervous about the guitar being neck heavy anyways.
  6. I asked the same question a while back. I was considering using the straight edges of the blank to help with routing pick up and trem cavities. I was told by many that using templates on a cut body would be less to worry about, and so far, they were right. Ive been doing that ever since. Just make sure your center line is marked correctly and visible... Its kinda hard to do with purpleheart, but ive managed.
  7. I recently bought a guitar grimore dvd that finally helped me understand modes and theory fully. Not 100 % sure if thats what your looking for, but it helped me realize some of the why X works with Y, and so on.
  8. Beautiful craftmanship on all parts, and a special hats off to the "mutt" guitar. I loved the idea, and its nice to see it done, however, the total custom has my vote. The first band I ever joined needed a guitarist who could play the solo for Biohazard's Punishment, and its all been downhill from there The inlays put it over the top for me!!!! Guilty....Punishment for ALL MY SINS!!!!
  9. Boy oh boy Matt, here we go again.. what are you looking to get out of the spade guitar body? or should I just pm you an offer?
  10. Emailed gibson and requested a list of appraisers in my area. Now I know the difference between the 330 and the 335. Was going to do that after work today. Thanks Mark. Not really interested in trading for it as a collector, was more for a conversation piece, and to hand it down to my son, when he is old enough to appreciate it. Obviously, I would get some weird looks if I were to play heavy metal with it onstage. If it is what he thinks it is, it will also be the oldest guitar in my collection. As far as price, he is interested in trading for my 97 parker nitefly, or a pair of modded japan strats.
  11. What would you do if someone offered to trade a vintage piece with some repairs for a "Player" guitar. The gentleman is retiring and would rather not play the guitar he has as he is afraid of damaging it, and the headstock was already professionaly repaired in 1973. He just wants a newer strat or tele in trade for a gibson es330 or es335( he isnt sure what it is) I will recieve the guitar next week to inspect it, and check the model and date. He believes the guitar is a 1965. Now I have already bought a "player" 1977 les paul from him, and it is near mint. How do I put a correct value on this gibson so Im not ripping him a new one or not losing out myself. Pics available after I get the guitar from him, so if anyone can help out on identifying the guitar and putting a price together
  12. Ive had no problems with any of my line6 products. I actually sold my 2101 processor among other things to buy my 1st flextone 2 head
  13. Guitarplansunlimited.com. Nice to deal with, excelent full size plans, and they will do custom work. The did an Iceman with floyd rose setup for me a couple of months ago.
  14. Absolutely beautiful, Gotta love the house of color Kandys, had my first motorcycle done in em. Cant imagine what it looks like up close and personal.
  15. I found the article and just skimmed it. I saved the page to my computer, and now it comes up no page to display. I never got a chance to read through the whole thing. I was considering using the idea on my current project, and Im just curious how the whole process worked, what kind of time I was looking at, what kind of LEDs to use, where to get em, How to wire them.... Just gathering info. If nothing else, the pic of the skull and crossbones with the eyes lit up was awesome.
  16. I know it was here, however the link says page not found. Search didnt lead to the tutorial I saw that had the cap sizes and great description? Any help?
  17. Actually I believe he did a gieger guitar, Kinda looked like the danzig album cover.
  18. Because I do this as a hobby, I figure I can get buy without buying Name brand tools that cost a fortune. I have been totally happy with everything I have bought at harborfreight.com. A 2 piece spoke shave set only cost me 9 bucks plus shipping. My 1.75 hp plunge router I go on sale for 30 bucks and it came with a 1 yr warrenty. The high speed cutter bits work great for inlays, and I got 25 bits for 6 bucks. Clamps, saws, sandpaper, extra long drill bits, files and rasps, even a spray gun, were all inexpensive and work great for a hobbyist. Im sure if I did this for a living, they wouldnt last long, and I would end up buying everything from dewalt, but just figured I would offer it up as a suggestion.
  19. As you can see by the title, Im looking for a neck to practice on. send a pm with pics please. Evilbay has em but 20 to 30 bucks plus shipping just so I can tear it apart? Figured I would see if anyone has one they want too off Thanks in advance
  20. The heat gun is old, so its possible it just isnt getting hot enough, although it will still take paint off. Practicing with propane is only a problem cause Im runnig out of test wood. Was considering using sheet metal as a heat shield and cut out a design to use as a template.
  21. I figured I would practice some burn methods on body blank leftovers for the body Im currently building. (heat gun, propane, oxyaccetaline) Naturally the oxyaccetaline is way to hot, and if I turn down the oxygen, I get a sooty flame that leaves a residue. The heat gun dosent seem to get hot enough, and the propane gives unpredictable results. I was wondering if there was another method that someone has used and had good results. Im also open to suggestions as to a pattern. I would rather not copy a BSB jem, or the 80s tiger stripes. Thinking flames or lightninig bolts(hence the need for more control over the burn) The wood is purpleheart. Oh yeah I mentioned that in my post. (relax metal matt, its not the razzor body)
  22. Thanks a lot guys. Ill use some of the pics on ibanezregister.
  23. Search under ibanez pickguard on evilbay. The one i purchased from aiguitars fit like a glove(it was for a 6 string) If nothing else, send him an email. I am a repeat buyer, as his cost and quality are unbeatable.
  24. Best pic I have found is on Jemsite.com and its not even a good pic. 3 seperate pics at different angles, and none of the pics go from the 1st to 5th fret.
