  1. I don't really have much of a problem making and cutting out a body.. but I have nowhere to put a router till I move into a bigger place middle of next year, nor anywhere I could really finish/spray one. I do plan on having a go on 2-3 in the second half of next year though.
  2. Usually it'll say on your masking tape how long it's safe to keep on. I think the stuff I use says 2 weeks.. after that it might actually stick, and when removed will leave some of the adhesive gunk on the frets. I'm considering trying that tutorial on an old strat-style guitar I've got. You could perhaps do a few frets at a time whenever you get the chance instead of taping up all the frets in one go.
  3. No-one? Been looking through ebay and there just aren't enough bodies sold on there, most are strat style and I wanted something a little more radical. Guess I'll have to just leave it for now.
  4. Anyone got any nice bodies lying around not doing anything? I was hoping to start building a body (or 2 or 3) in the new year but as it's turned out I won't be able to start for a good few months. I recently acquired a 24 fret Jackson neck which I intend to eventually put on a project Kelly style body but I'm wondering if anyone has a spare body that they think would suit such a neck. At this point I'm not too bothered what bridge goes on it, or what style body but I'll know if I like it when I see it. So please PM me or reply here if you want to sell an old body or maybe a finished project body you never used for some reason (unless it's broke ofcourse ).
  5. The whole point of a Floyd is that it floats (the bridge doesn't touch any wood) so routing is required. Usually not only for the bridge itself but a caivty for the trem-block too. If you didn't.. you'd end up with a floyd that could only dive (or maybe do nothing at all).
  6. Great find, when I get round to building a neck I may order one or two things from them.
  7. what do you mean "blew up", I have a V-Amp pro and that includes a fuse just above the power connector aswell as the one in the plug.. you sure one of those just hasn't blown?
  8. I sometimes like to do it the other way round. putting a neck pickup in the bridge position gives you the slightly crisper sound you get from the bridge but the great deep tone a neck pickup usually carries.
  9. Someone asked this last week. Basically you can, but you probably won't be able to share the volume/tone control (so if you want vol/tone controls for each pickup you're gonna need seperate pots (for each pickup)).
  10. Thanks for the offer Godin but I wouldn't want to think how much shipping to the UK would be, or how long it'd take. Guess I'll just wait till next year when I can afford something better.
  11. Just login to 'My Ebay' and click the 'Start Selling' link on the left menu. All your questions are answered there in the ebay help. As for shipping internationally, it's just a pain. Not only is there a massive increase in delivery cost (which can often be more than the actual item itself) but it takes ages to deliver and if there's something wrong with it it could get messy with returns or refunds. As ebay help says, state all terms and conditions clearly in your auction so to avoid any confusion later on. I only just read all this stuff lastnight myself after replacing my pickups I was thinking of selling the old ones (just cheap Ibanez, but better than having them sitting in a box) and a few other things I have lying around.
  12. I was going to suggest an EMG89.. or look at alternatives to EMGs (SD Invader?) then you could combine it with any other passive pickup you want.
  13. Coming up to christmas and I've decided I'm gonna buy myself an electro-acoustic (and give my friend his acoustic back that I've had for 6 months), I don't want to spend alot, but don't want something that I'll be disappointed with later on. I can spend upto about £200 and would prefer a cutaway as I like to play higher up the fretboard alot. Any recommendations, makes and models? Any I should avoid? A few I like the look of : Ibanez TCY-20 Washburn EA-18 Ovation Applause AE128 Crafter FX550-EQ Those all look decent but I don't know which to choose (or if there's something else I should be looking at
  14. nope.. buying a Washburn WI66Pro in a few weeks then onto my own projects early next year
  15. I wasn't having a go at him.. I was just telling him why he'd had no replies.
  16. Well thanks for the replies, guess I'll keep it simple
  17. If you want those squeeling harmonics I would recommend an Evolution in the bridge instead of the ToneZone. The ToneZone I fit in my Charvel is perfect for my style (very fast, very precise picking (big Paul Gilbert fan)), but not so great on the harmonics side. I've played a few Jems with Evolutions in and they give a very similer sound to the ToneZone, with more sustain and harmonics allover the fretboard (although that's what the Jems are made for ). The other two sound good though, I actually went for two Seymour Duncans in the SS spaces of my HSS Charvel, combined with the ToneZone at the bridge.
  18. Having recently bought an EMG 81 and 85 seperately I'm ready to install them in my Ibanez DTX120 and have been considering using two batteries after numerous reports of it sounding 'better'. This does mean a bit of routing out of the back of the guitar for batteries to fit but nothing too complicated. Now I was wondering, it should be easy enough to put a switch leading from one battery so that it is removed or added to the circuit. Switching the circuit from one to two batteries. But would there be any advantage in this. Would I notice the difference in sound between the one-battery and two-battery sounds? Would I always want to run two batteries (as everyone says it's 'better')? Any thoughts on this?
  19. I have the Guitar version of the V-Amp pro (rackmount), the high-distortion channels are a little too clunky but everything else on it is great. You can get a massive difference in tone and sound from it. Plus it's very flexible with the floorboard unit (which costs almost as much as the V-Amp Pro itself, letting you bind almost any control to the expression pedals and footswitches lets you do alot. I might also be buying the bass version early next year (and I was originally planning to get the POD XT Live which is 3 times the price of the V-Amp Pro.

  21. http://www.guitar-pro.com/en/index.phpGuitar Pro - Trial version free to download, Guitar Pro files are just like midi, but when playing it shows you drum/bass/guitar tab for each track and you can selectively remove each track (eg just listen to drums) MySongBook.com - Massive source of Guitar Pro files. I use this alot when learning songs as it lets you remove the guitar from tracks and play it yourself.
  22. I think you'll find 95% of us on here aren't looking for a 'plain' guitar. We want custom stuff mostly.
  23. Thanks for the link. I might buy this if it goes cheap which it probably will because the majority of people looking will probably see it's cracked and close the window.
  24. After deciding to use pre-made necks for my first few projects I've been looking round anywhere I can for them. I have noticed a number of Ibanez necks on ebay, some of which have cracks on the back side of the nut, like this one : http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...B:EOIBUAA:UK:71 While that doesn't look too bad, I'm guessing a set of tight strings won't do it any good (and I like 9s or 10s tight), so how could the back of the nut be reinforced? or is it even worth bidding on?
