  1. i can make a full sized drawing of mine curtis if you want, pm me about it definatly going to save you some time
  2. well when i do my bad horsie im going to use fibre optics instead of leds, just so that i wont have to take off the fretboard when i blow an led, there will only be 1 or 2 as it is for the light source, now i want to do a chrome vine with blue leafs lit up instead of dots, lgm and others how would i go about doing that with fibre optics or am i just a headcase? oh and btw, i just got about 20 ft of that nonadhesive backed mylar at a garden center in my town, i plan on doing some "tomato growing" j/k alergic to that stuff as it is!
  3. they also make an 1 11/16" nut that im aware of, but thats it unless you go into 7's
  4. you mean it might not be able to handle the spring tension?i would think it could considering gotoh uses the same material for there blocks, i could be wrong though, i got a lot more research before i build this thing!
  5. how wide do you guys think the block would have to be for an 8 string floyd? of coarse i plan on making it out of solid brass(i have a 8"x2"x1/2" piece that is unmilled-sweet!) also what cost do you guys think would be involved in making just the base plate? (i was figuring if i can do the cad work myself it would save me some money)
  6. i was thinkin of making the bad horsie jem soon so i will see how the mylar holds up, i was going to put a piece of acyrlic to the top of the body with the mylar under it and see how that works
  7. agreed, that looks pretty gnarly man, i would strip it down and build it up with some kind of filler then repaint.
  8. what i do its this, i use a bandsaw to get the body blank relativly close to the template, then i use the pattern bit to go over the template and cut out the rest of the body, i usually go about 3-5 passes on one side, then i flip the body over and repeat, then i use a spindle sander to take off whats left after that(just got one about 2 weeks ago-havent been able to stop using it! i love this thing)
  9. yup, bc rich uses it for there bronze guitars!....ermmmm.....i dont know if thats a good thing though..
  10. what i do is similar, i draw a full sized guitar, neck and body so i know that it will all go together, after i draw the full sized instrument, i get out a sheet of plexi glass and my dremel and a saw(i like to use a coping saw for this), after i transfer the body shape onto the plexi, i SLOWLY cut out the body and after im done with that i use the dremel to smooth out the edges of my new template, i then just use a pattern cutting bit on my wood and voila! new body
  11. if you mean the bevels i used a 45 degree router bit to do them, bit cost me about 20 bucks to get and I did several passes on it so that i wouldnt chip the wood or worse!(im way too cautious with this guitar)
  12. drez, that might be an idea, but i think it would be tough to incorperate it into a floyd design
  13. i have no clue, but those bushings have been on my mind all day and all i can think of is to have a very dense wood or metal insert of somekind in the body or perhaps even an "anchor" of sorts that would bolt staight thru the body, less likelyhood of a crack there especially if your using a dense body wood(i dont think mahogany would work very well in this case) god how i want to make one of these sooo bad now!!!! also i was thinking if i do make one, that having space for 7 springs in the back would be satisfactory (or should i make room for say 9?-seems like over kill to me)
  14. well if your going to use onboard effects, you will not only need a battery, but a stereo jack, and as for the neck, check out shamray guitars or neal mosers custom shop (both of them arent going to be cheap)
  15. i was figuring that cost would be an issue on it, so thats cool, im thinking I will do it later down the line, im workin on the design of the base plate and block right now, as for the claw, that wont be too big an issue, i was thinking of making the claw able to hold 7 springs so that would be 2 more springs in there if at it needed it (i would doubt i would need more then 5 but better safe then sorry! another issue i just though of is that 8th strings saddle, since the string is in effect a bass string, i dont know if it would fit, so i might have to have a saddle milled out a bit jeremy what kind of steel did you use on it? how long have you been working on it? any pics? also i dont think that i would have to worry about getting into trouble for just making one of these would i? you mentioned getting the "licensed under floyd rose" costs are a lot. also would it be safe to assume that new bushing would have to be fabricated as well?
  16. that is true, I dont think that 8's will gain as much popularity as 7 strings have so i dont think we will se them anytime soon, which is why i asked if i decide to build an 8 i will give it a shot, lets get some more input on the subject!
  17. i have been reading all over the net about 8 string guitars and the fact that they dont have a trem available (yet...) but what if i were to use a floyd rose, get 2 more saddles, and have a new baseplate and block machined and of coarse a lock nut as well, could that even possibly work or am I just having delusions of divebombing an F#? i have seen an ibanez 8 string fxedge bridge (fixed floyd) and that is why I ask, i figure thats more then likely what they did, also since you would obviously be dealing with more string tension, would it be safe to assume you may want to make a spring cavity for more they 5 springs?
  18. your tellin me!!! im only waiting on the neck right now and a few more shots of matte clear then final assembly! im hoping it will be done in about 2-4 weeks *hopes furiously*
  19. of and on yes jesus, but i have had no choice but to pause on it sometimes, when your workin 3 jobs its not easy to make time to build a guitar, i have a damn good job now so i actually have the time to get back onto it, you cant imagine how bad i want this guitar done!
  20. thats cause im a little **** retentive bastard!! but seriously i wanted to have a design that nobody else in my town could even touch, and with the anihilator, well i think it speaks for itself...i didnt like the feel of those skullbusters, they seemed to thin to me and i normaly play 10-52's! 27 fret necks were only used on a handful of guitars in the 80's and most of them didnt sell very well, i wanted one because i find 24 frets not enough for when I play lead, i know there is a guy on this site who built a 31 fret guitar! (now if only i can find one of those 36 fret virtuoso guitars....) also what kind of bridge are you using, i have a gotoh floyd rose thats going to be used, also mine will have the x2n like i mentioned with a 10x gain boost switch and 3 way coil split for a little more versitility, keep us posted and when i find that disc i will start a thread here on mine
  21. the neck i am getting is being made by a luthier friend of mine, its taken him a while to finish though, and as for pictures as soon as i find the cd i have pics on, you guys will see them again! (ive posted them once before but it was a damn long time ago) when i designed my anihilator i first did the neck, figured out the scale, did bridge placement and revolved EVERY POINT of the guitar on that bridge, the back spike is centered in the middle of the bridge beetwen the a and d strings if that makes sense and its about 5 3/4 behide the bridge (i will have to go check) all in all I went through about 25 variations of doyles before i settled on the one that my body is.
  22. dude it fricken figures somebody else would be doing the same guitar as i am!!!! your anihilator looks nice man, your lower horns are a bit wide though, makes it look a bit fat which is cool! how wide is yours? i made mine about 18" wide, also you going to be doing a single humbucker or whats the specs, mines going to have a x2n with a 27 fret neck, flat black (a must for the design!) cool lets see who finishes there anihilator first man!
  23. wes you hear the story about the helicopter that mike lavallee painted like that, the guy who had it done landed at some restuant, and within 10 minutes they had something like 5 fire engines there! now thats what i can a damn good paint job!!!!
  24. THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!!!!!! jeremy that helped me a hell of a bunch!!!
  25. well i can do hot rod flames no damn problem, but i dont know where to start on doing true fire so i guess i just better wait till that instructional vid comes out eh?
