  1. Absolutely marvelous! Not something I'd buy or want to own but that's just because my taste is different but BOY OH BOY is that a beautiful guitar!
  2. No I see it too!! Oh my god that looks good! You need to put that on a guitar now!
  3. I won't mind - electrics is the one thing I can do well on a guitar! It's all relatively simple if you don't add any on boards effects or anything - just volume(s), tone(s) and a jack is easy enough.
  4. I put it in the shop front to set up (just happens it's like a greenhouse!) and the sun sat gleaming on it so maybe it's just me being stupid.
  5. OI just read it and it's about handbags etc not signmakers vinyl Vinyl for signmakers is PVC but thee's monomeric calendered, Polymeric clendered and cast versions of it so a bit of a range!
  6. I looked back last night at exactly what I'd done and the bubbles weren't where the vinyl was! So it can't be that - I spray car laquer (out of a gun not rattlecan) over vinyl on bikes all the time so I know it isn't that either. Maybe I got something on the urface between coats? I dunno but it's stressed me out because I can't get my guitar done for a while now and it wasn't far off done!
  7. Unsure wherein the work you are Sully but the UK link to Createx is www.createxuk.co.uk If you ever call them, ask for Pete Millichamp and tell him Craig off Signchatter sent you - he's a great guy and will look after you - If you're not in the UK - just ignore my ramblings!
  8. You could also use the trimpots still but have them on a rear panel (sort of control cavity on the rear) and adjust through a hole as needed. It may also be possible to mount it behind the jack plug plate so you can access through a hole there!
  9. I don't see why not but I'm a newbie - my experience with vinyl is because I'm a signwriter. I know that works because I've done it!
  10. I ended up sanding the guitar back as i wasn't happy withthe finishanyway - I got a wired bubbly issue when left in the sun (this was rattle can laquer onto of vinyl so maybe a wierd combo reaction). I think I'll use poly then - OUTSIDE I'm now looking to cover the front with a veneer so lets see what happens.
  11. Ooops what have I started Nevermind - so back on track - If I use a winter activator then (this goes offquickerin lower temps so I'm assuming will go off VERY quick at summer temp) then I should be ok and be able to finish (polish) withn the week? I alwaysuse RELEVANT safety gear and the guy at the spray shop says that the stuff they sell, they are trained using carbon masks and there are NO ill effects. The company guarantee this and are alarge manufacturer over here so I trust them. BTW anyone interested it's www.autopaint.co.uk EDIT: Just checked and it's cyanate a free one they do!
  12. Any decent signwriter will be able to get digitally printed vinyl. This can be laminated with clear vinyl(they'lll probably do that for you too as it's tricky), wrapped onto the guitar (with a LITTLE heat and careful forming) and then cleared over - I clear (2pk car paint) over this stuff on bikes all the time but never tried to form to a guitar (new to this one) Make sure you laminate clear vinyl over it first though or the solvent in the laquer will liquidise the ink into a mush!
  13. I THOUGHT the biggest problem with 2Pk was the Iso cyanate being carcenogenic (sp?) I buy low Iso Cyanate stuff anyway. I've sprayed outside before (mainly motorbike panels) so no probs there but we get a hell of a lot of dust around here and that's my biggest worry. I'll have a play in my shop (not a lot of room though) in the next few days.
  14. I have a gun and compressor and have a supplier of low isocyanate 2 Pk car laquer which would set up within a week or so - BUT no where to spray the blasted stuff!! I'll have to do it outside in the garden but we get tons of floating dust round here as i live on a busy main road. Ho hum - the torture of doing your own work!
  15. Well it's all gone arse up! I left the body in the sun the last few days to let it set up. Idea being that the heat would work like a heat lamp and speed up the hardening process. NOPE! It made the front of the guitar bubble like hell so I'vehad to strip it off. Now I was using Halfords Rattle cans (I have no where to use my spray gun at the moment. But I've used them many times before with no problems so why this happened, God only knows! So flamed maple veneer may be on the cards!!!
  16. After waiting a week for my laquer to set up, I'm bored ! I want to get on with the finish and not sit around any longer so... Which clear will go over a good 'car paint' base coat or a water based dye and give me a good, hard surface BUT can be sanded and polished in a few days/week?
  17. I think one os the new 12string bridge and the other is the old 6 string one.
  18. I ain't no metal head (though I do go a little mad sometimes ) - just a guitar lover so you ain't on your own - I love the work you've done with the 'axe' mate - It looks beautiful!
  19. What about getting the hardware powder coated - maybe in a nice deep dark blue?
  20. That's beautiful fellas - working on your own is great but you guys have captured the escence of true team work WOW!
  21. Well, I've bought a trem so it's going to be much easier! The imagry was left 'simple' on purpose - as a signwriter, you learn quickly that simple is usually more effective than not. The back still has to be done and is going to have some text on it (the famous - 'I have a dream...' speech.) Plus I have a new product I sell - doming! So I'm going to have some black doming on the front - looks like the guitar has been vaccuum formed! It's only the beginning so be prepared for big changes - the main thing for me is to wait a few more weeks for the laquer to set up so I can do the back and then wait again so I can sand and polish!!!
  22. CHeers guys - I think I'll just get a trem and use this on my next project - I've started finishing so I don't want to be filling again!
  23. Yeah worth a look I suppose but I wonder if it'll fit right - gotta be worth a go - maybe I'll just buy a trem and use this on my next project!
  24. There is a little gap bit I changed my scratch plate today so it meets up with the bridge - problem sorted! My main concern with it is just the usageof the strings directly to the back of the plate more than anything - I would happily block up the trem - if I had one!
  25. Well, I reckoned on just painting the whole thing and I can always remove paint from that area if needed - plus I don't have the neck yet so it may help to get a tighter fit. Either way, it won't take much to get that back right. Not quite mate - the bridge is supposed to have the strings go through it and then to the back of the guitar where they're held in ferrules (this isn't a strat part - one off unusual thingy). I want to forget about the strings going through the body and let the ball sit at the back of the bridge itself. The Whole where the trem block used to got will be left empty and leave access to the back of the bridge for stinging. The back plate will still be there and cover this whole (and the preamp i'm fitting) Is that clear or have I waffled?
