Dopamini - 3rd build thread
psikoT replied to MasterOfTheWind's topic in In Progress and Finished Work
Well, you have your own style, that's for sure... I like your crazy designs. Talking about neurotransmitter substances... I see you have done some bodies already, don't you feel confident to start making your own neck? You should try, is like an serotonin overdose... you'll feel like god. -

I have a couple of question, if you don't mind: When you glue the neck to the body, are you going to apply pressure also on the sides or just on the top?... And, are you going to use epoxi to fill the gap, or just titebond? I'm worried about the flatness of the top after glueing the neck...- 118 replies

Let me have it ! First build - ADRENALINE

Hi, welcome to the forum... I like your explorer approach and specially the fact that you've built it without being a guitar player. That sounds impossible to me. Congratulations! -
That was... is it possible to get such papyrus from hard woods, like maple or ebony?

I need this:

Thanks... it was spontaneous and I thought it could work as a brand. It really doesn't work, cause I don't have a name yet, which makes the brand totally useless. There's a computer brand which is similar, but I don't care. They probably don't care either. You should upload a pic to get more feedback... Not really bad, because it follows the line of the instrument somehow. If you're happy, just do it. If not, keep trying. That's how it works.

KEA 2015 builds (still dragging on)

If you want to make a business of it, you have to think like a business man. That's not easy, at least for me. There's a guy from my place in Spain (Almería) who makes stunning instruments (http://www.o3custom.com/en/5-guitarras) and had a lot of success. The guitars are cool, but the guy doesn't stop. He's working constantly on self promotion, appears in some guitar magazines, TV, social media, etc... he also goes to some exhibitions here in Europe, like the Musikmesse and the Holy Grail Guitar Show... I'm following his career and I see how hard is to make a name. Maybe if you turn it to a (paid) hobby, you save in frustration... life is not about money. -

The required work to make a couple of guitars at once is basically the same as making only one... I can spend hours to prepare a two minutes routing. -
I know what you mean, but that's the essence of the competition IMO... If the participant loses the month, he probably will lose the year as well. I'm not against that feature though, maybe someone finds it useful. I really would love to see more entries every month, that makes the vote more interesting.

I was thinking to start using hand planes mostly for leveling big plain surfaces, like tops, veneers, fingerboards, necks, etc... but that's more a sharpening topic... Yep, the GOTM this month was full of beauties, just wanted to throw some gasoline to the fire... repeating a GOTM makes no sense to me, but thanks for recall.
-
Looks killer... do you glue the neck after finishing?
-
Thanks!... Hand tools will be present in my next builds more often, I fear... I want to try with hand planes too.

Black Pussy This is a remake of the first model I built five years ago, with some improvements. The challenge was to design a bolt-on singlecut with ergonomics in mind. Full access control, thin neck, light weight and simplicity are the main features. Specs are: - Flamed maple, african mahogany and rock maple 5 pieces laminated neck. - First grade ebony fretboard, maple binding. Scale 666 mm. - 3 layers ebony-maple-ebony headstock cap. - Two pieces alder body. - Schaller bridge. - Cheapo tuners... ^^ - Wilkinson humbucker pickups. - Simple volume, tone and 3 way selector. - Solid acrylic black and transparent nitro finish. You can see the complete process here:
-
Thanks! I'm gonna drop this one right to the GOTM... there are already two beauties over there, which makes the competition almost inaccessible, but interesting... no hope though.
-
Hi there, here's the finished thingee... sorry for delay, I had not much time to spend on this. Hope you enjoy the pictures. Maybe was not a good idea to make a solid black guitar, I put it together with the seven strings and this one looks really cheap in comparison. Anyway, it plays smooth and sounds great, I like the long scale but I have to use 0.09 strings for a standard tuning. Thanks for watching!

Here people speak german, which is a pain in the butt to learn... I'm here for two years and still don't understand a shit. ^^ I wanted to study in an academy but I really have no time for that. My fellas talk to me in english, cause we're always in a hurry at work... but hope to learn german some day. The good thing is that almost everybody speaks english here - not like in Spain - so I've also improved it a lil bit. You english-spoken people are really lucky, don't have speech problems anywhere in the world. I also respect polylingual people, really envy them... you probably would get surprised to see here in Austria how many young people speak minimum 3 languages, and they have no problem to learn a new one if necessary. I'm too old for that I think...

Thanks!... I've continued polishing today and finally gave up, so I put all the mask away and this is ready for assembly.

I just saw some gigs of these people in youtube some days ago... that's something crazy but highly addictive, couldn't stop watching them.
