  1. That looks great. From what I can see you even have a matching strap, so good job. The strat kinda reminds me of Harrison's Rocky, especially the back. I'd love some close-up pics though.
  2. Ah, I feel like an idiot, so a jewelers saw is just a 'figuurzaag'. And all this time I though jewelers saw was some mega high performance, super thin saw. Thanks.
  3. Looks good. Since your a fellow Dutchie, you might be able to tell me where you bought the jewelers saw. I've been looking around places like Gamma, but haven't found one yet. So if you could send me in the right direction I'd appreciate it. Thanks. Maurits.
  4. Drilling a little hole does make sense. I'm going to go that way myself I think. Would this also work with non-dot inlays like LP trapezoids?
  5. If it has a maple fretboard it could be hard to do it without damage as there is a finish over it. With rosewood you might be able to steam it out. Don't take my word on it though. Best wait for some of the experts to come in.
  6. I believe with f-holes the guitar can be more prone to feedback, this might just be the case on completely hollow bodies though, I'm not sure.
  7. I'm sure she'll turn out great. If you don't mind me asking, where are you having it sprayed? A local shop or a luthier of some sort? BTW. Are you planning to put on reflector knobs on her like in that pic you posted? And how about the pup-covers?
  8. http://www.oddmusic.com/gallery/om13750.html And I thought these things were built just to keep cattle in!!
  9. Drawing from scratch or tracing, a nice inlay is a nice inlay. Your panda looks great Chris.
  10. Yikes!!!! Glad youpointed that out to me, plus a great tip about the wax paper. Good luck with the project. I'm sure all the wonderfull people here will help you out. Us newbies are all here to learn from our and other's mistakes after all. I'm sure it will turn out fine and turn theRG into your new favorite guitar after it is filled with all your blood, sweat and tears .
  11. That looks great, (almost)simple yet elegant. Not too busy and such. All this lovely work you guys keep putting out is overwhelming. And I can't help but be inspired to try a hand at this inlaying myself this summer.
  12. Simply stunning. How do you get the inspiration to do these things (besides Chris obviously:D)? It is watching nature films and whatnot, or do your clients come in with an exact image in mind already? Thanks, Maurits.
  13. I'd go nitro, wear and tear looks good on guitars anyway so for me personally that wouldn't be a problem. There are some things to look out for when using nitro though. First of which you probably already know of is not putting it on a stand where it is in direct contact with the rubber/foam stuff on the stand as this will stain the wood. Plus a littler known finish killer, bug repelent(sp.) will eat away nitro. In the end it's up to what you want though. An authentic finish or a better protecting finish. BTW. What's up with the sanding
  14. I dig the scroll. Are yo planning on carving it, 'cause that would make it even better. Altough I kinda agree on squashed up, twisted up, squishy bodies being so popular, this one looks quite nice. As for influence: Claypool with his scroll bass?
  15. I believe I like koa a lot now, thanks for that. And congrats on the succesfull demo, being told that your guitars are that good must be quite flattering. Did you by any chance bring that Padauk P-90 (that was you that built that wasn't it?) guitar you build some time ago? Congrats, Maurits
  16. This is exactly the reason why Ritchie Blackmore's sig. strat has no middle pick-up. He kept hitting his, thus screwing it all the way down like you have done.
  17. Great little guitar you've got there Boggs. Hope it work out for you with the demo, I'm sure we'd all like for someone to buy us a CNC mill. I'm a bit of an idiot when it comes to woods, so could you tell me what that body wood is, it looks nice, could you maybe post a close-up pic of it? Thanks, Maurits
  18. Looking good, I really like neck-though Explorers. But that headstock looks like it will be huge. Nice and original though you might just have to build a custom case to fit that sucker. Personally I think a dark-blue/purple stain would look great on a guitar like this one. Might look nice with the wenge pup-rings. I wouldn't do a solid color.
  19. Setch, it looks great as usual (absolutely love that neck), but I was wondering how you were planning to wire this beauty? Thanks, Maurits
  20. Looks great, I think the custom case really completes the picture and give that extra special feel to it. It just wouldn't be the as good if the guitar were to just be carried around in a generic gigbag. Hats off to you. Maurits
  21. You're in luck if it's the string height that's causing the trouble because you can easily raise it yourself, unless maybe if it's a Floyd Rose (which remain a complete mystery to me), but it could be that it's caused by the neck being bowed or the frets not being level, which is trickier to fix. Hope this helps and good luck Maurits
  22. Thanks Nitefly, I knew about the thickness but wasn't sure about the front view size. I have the thickness taken care of allready. Turns out cheap crappy construction has saved me tons of work. It used to be a cheap LP standard copy, of which I have have actually completely removed the top in less than 15 minutes. Now it is about as thick as a tele, which I believe is close enough for my little project. Thanks, Maurits
  23. Instead of starting a new threadI thought I could continue this one with a question of my own. I was wondering if an LP Jr. is the same size as a standard? This having to do with a build project I'm concidering. Thanks a lot in advance. Maurits
  24. Wow, that's simply stunning. One of the best headstocks I've ever seen, plus that fretboard very pretty to say the least. Keep up the spectacular work. If only one day I would come close to being a fifth as good as that bass turned out I'd be a happy man. GOTM?
