  1. Sweet, although you should have left like This and put it on your wall. Would make a fine piece of artwork for over the fireplace
  2. That sapele looks great. I also like the headstock, gives it an edge over the trad Gibson one. What might solve the contrast problem is a (thickish) binding around the fretboard. Any idea for finish yet?
  3. I wouldn't go with a wenge top if the fingerboard is wenge as well, that's just me though. Got any pics of the wood?
  4. Haven't seen this thread in a while, but this thing looks great. Shame about the suppliers and shipping costs, but in the end what's 5 pounds anyway. Thats some of the craziest control cavity routing I've ever seen.
  5. And that is why baseball bat like necks are the way to go
  6. That is a nice looking headstock on there. Are you also going for inlays?
  7. Both inlays look really great. How long does one of those take you?
  8. That looks great. Nice shade of dark orange, goes very well with the wenge. Beautifull neck as well. What are the controls going to be?
  9. The wood's tone is not really of big importance when playing with highgain mostly I think. I haven't seen hardmaple for an entire body before, mostly necks. Don't most Fenders have ash or alder bodies?
  10. That thing look crazy!! (in a good way of course) Fanned frets sound cool. Never played on one as I haven't even ever seen one around here, but they do seem to make sense. Only bad thing Ican think of is once you play one your other basses probably won't get much playing anymore. Kudos to you, not many people can pull off green hightops What strings do you put on one of these anyway, and where would you get them? Do they set you back a lot?
  11. That looks really good. But if you don't play it who does? And how come you only get to see it once a week?
  12. Most melodic metal is played on humbuckers so I'd just go with those if I were you. Some pickup companies have soundclips on their websites to give you an idea of the sound they produce. So what are some bands you play? What wood you use also depends on what finish you want. If you go for a solid finish looks of the wood aren't as important, while a natural or see-through finish might call for some great looking woods. Maple is a very common neckwood, while common bodywoods are ash, alder, mahogany and others. For the fretboard look at maple, rosewood or ebony. Look around here for some woods: http://www.hobbithouseinc.com/personal/woodpics/ A set neck isn't much more difficult than a bolt-on I think. Set neck just has the advantage that the heel can be shaped sleeker for better access. Hope this helps and good luck.
  13. First of all, welcome to PG If you need any help this is the right place to ask as I think everyone is willing to give pointers and other advice. Asking questions is always better than worrying about things you're not sure about. What you need to do first is make a plan as to what materials you want to use and what design you want (seems like you have that covered already). If you play melodic death metal I'd go with humbuckers, some EMG's for example. For good higher fret reach I'd opt for a set neck with a nicely carved heel of some sort. If you aren't confident about the fretboard you can always buy a preslotted one. If I were you I'd look around on www.stewmac.com or another site like that and look around at bridges, tuners etc. that catch your fancy. Just be sure to plan everything in advance and look around on here at all the tutorials and such. Don't be afraid to ask as many questions as you like, we're all here to learn . Good luck. Maurits
  14. Looking good. Love the back of that neck, but thinner than a wizard, damn! What's with the odd links though? Will it also have the monkeygrip?
  15. That is a lovely looking piece of ash you have there.
  16. Those pickup covers look very cool. These should be some beautiful guitars.
  17. That's a cool looking top you have there. The sycamore doesn't look too shabby either.
  18. That looks great. Ilove how you keep the wenge/maple thing going in everything. Will just the top be orange or all the maple?
  19. That's such a shame. The second pic does look better. I always find the burst on a Jr really strange without the pickguard, cause it looks too much like a plectrum to me.
  20. Sounds like you have you're work cut out for you. For finishing I believe you could go to something like a car painting place and have it done there or just ask around in musicshops near you, maybe someone there knows where you could go.
  21. Looks good. Just one question, why the really big covers on there?
  22. Padouk would look good. Or maybe wenge.
  23. Nice combination of woods you have there. You could even make on the other way around with the wenge for the top. What bridge will this thing have on it?
  24. Thats strange, how it works great a number of times and then fails you all at once.
  25. That bass look sreally cool now. Nice piece of wood.
