  1. Scott, this is a bit of a grey area for me aswell. I've not had any massive issues yet but I too keep my body blanks and drop tops indoors in a central heated environment, do you think I'd be better off storing them in my shed even though it's is cold and damp at this time of year, and then pretty damn hot in the summer (when we get one here in the uk!)
  2. Kool, I know you we're worried about the board looking dirty with time if you left it unfinished, but I think the grain fill makes it look dirty in a good way if you get me.
  3. Board looks really nice man. You decided on a finish for it yet?
  4. I was admiring your bench whilst checking out the photos, looks great! What would also be great is if you'd put some plans up for it :-p. Is that a no5 or no6 you use for jointing? I'm trying to get hold of a jointer and not sure if a no7 is neccassery as a no6 is a lot cheaper. With regards to the body shape, I really like it, interested to see how the carve turns out on the bass side. Shelvock
  5. That's it, then the strings pass through the body
  6. Looks like that's a string thru body hard tail bridge so you will need some string ferrules
  7. I think you need to carry on researching before you start buying parts that you don't need. If you are not installing a tremolo, then you don't need anything relating to it such as the trem block, which is actually part of a trem. If your goin to use a hard tail bridge find some build threads where they are used to see how they are set up, strung, grounded etc. it's all on here. The reason those pre-cut bodies have the trem route is because strats by definition come with a tremolo.
  8. You don't need a trem cover if your not installing a trem, there will be nothing for it to cover...
  9. I wish there were some better pics of the evil tele, that spalted burl top looks great from what I can see. In the end the OMarlin got my vote, it's exactly the kind of acoustic I'd love to get my hands on.
  10. Rough n ready. Not enough guitars about that look like this, really like it, nice and different.
  11. Is that fiebings leather dye your using? The blue looks brilliant, really deep
  12. I know what you mean, every now n then I use some fine wire wool to clean my fretboard if it's looking a bit dirty and then rub in some more tung oil
  13. I must say I wasn't mad keen on your first one, I'm not a great fan of explorers full stop, but with the bevel and new headstock I find myself really liking this one! What about tung oil on the fret board? Or would it be a problem with the black grain fill? I've got a birdseye maple fretboard finished with tung oil and that's fine.
  14. Bob why the hell are you spraying WD40 on it! I really can't see that helping when you come to finish with the oil, just wipe some thinners on if you want to show the grain.
  15. I would be tempted to put on some more concentrated dark red, then do another sand back and reapply the purple. It does look a little washed out don't you think?
  16. The angled cauls for adjusting neck bow prior to gluing is a great idea, good for fingerboard/fret levelling too.
  17. I do agree it should be more than 10, but perhaps 50 is a bit much, I only have 25 posts but I'm on here all the time, I just don't have much knowledge to share because I'm a new builder, and most of my questions so far have been answered by searching the forum. Plus I don't really like spamming up build threads saying something looks cool all the time (unless it's extra cool lol).
  18. Looking forward to seeing the top with the oil on, and intrigued by your xy table so far!
  19. Id like to think carefully about what I'm about to write down before I forget it...
  20. I'm in the same boat as demonx, no paintbrush for me either. Also, I donated the other day but got click happy and forgot to put my username in the note to seller, D'oh! My email is the same on here as it is for PayPal though
  21. Brilliant, thanks fellas, I'll be sure to have a practice
  22. I wasn't sure if oil would go over CA alright but if so I think that's the way I'll go, what about oil over epoxy?
  23. +1 SR Shad, your last couple of GOTM winners were really special, just to see one of your creations come to life will be fantastic.
