  1. You really, really, REALLY need to check your facts before posting. Check this site. Maple is listed as 755kg/m^3.
  2. Um, I hate to break it to you, specific gravity IS a measure of density.
  3. Ah, that's better hmm... how'd one change the topic heading?
  4. Isn't it kind of late to be putting out a 2003 catalog... with just over 2 weeks left in the year?
  5. Hmm... you really should check your facts before posting. Clear acrylic has a specific gravity of 1.19 meaning it'd sink in water... and wood generally floats.
  6. That's it! That's the name of the Jean-Michel Jarre bit. Man, my memory is failing me .
  7. Read this thread in it's entirety for back reference. Basically it's all in your playing/technique. If you play "correctly" with a nice soft touch, I'd think you'd have no problem with midi tracking. Well, no more than you already had . Scalloping won't make you a better player (unfortunately .)
  8. Yes I think they have and I'm sure they sound fine. I just find it strange that Snork keeps saying "From my experience using acrylic in computers, I conclude that all guitars made from it are muddy" instead of "From all the acrylic guitars that I've played or built, I conclude that they are muddy."
  9. That was awesome! . Did I hear a little Jean-Michel Jarre riff in there somewhere? Heh, I wonder what'd happen if he farted during the performance .
  10. Heh, we probably posted at the same time
  11. Will you be keeping the pickguard? It seems a shame to cover up that wood... even though it's clear.
  12. Wait a minute... you're saying that 4 years of experience using acrylics in computer case mods somehow translates to knowing how acrylics will sound as a guitar? How many acrylic bodied GUITARS have you built? How many acrylic bodied GUITARS have you played? I seem to recall reading about computer cases made from wood... and how good a sound dampening material it is.
  13. Whoa, when did I get bumped up to "Advanced Member?" Was it for the 200th post milestone? It happened in this thread and I didn't notice it, 'til now. Is that how it works?
  14. Wow, I didn't expect anyone to know Jean-Luc Ponty here... I'm impressed . His "Enigmatic Ocean" album is one of my all time favorites (early Holdsworth.) It kinda reminds me of cheesy 70's spam music... but it's good .
  15. Yes, do! You'll be happy you did . Kollman is cool. Fuggin' A! Yeah! Return To Forever is/was awesome. I was lucky enough to see them on their reunion tour, April 1, 1983 at the Palladium in NYC, IIRC. Al D., Chick C., Stanley C., Lenny W... unbelievable! You better believe I practiced 12-15 hrs/day for awhile after seeing that .
  16. Good job! Bookmarked it. Pat yourself on the back.
  17. Yeah, she's pretty cute, I guess. But I'm at the age where I'd feel like a dirty old man ogling young 20-somethings . I haven't seen her around Manhattan... I should go into town more often .
  18. Heh, I think we should have a "Stairway to Heaven" or "Smoke on the Water" competition too . Nevermind, just my malicious sagacious anus nature manifesting itself again . Heh, "Sagacious Anus" sounds like a good name for a band... like Tenacious D.
  19. Heh, that is sooo funny . Man, what a slap in the face hello... expecting Vai and getting BS.
  20. I believe regular picks. I'm remembering back to when I read about them in Guitar Player magazine... 15 years ago sounds about right. I think I remember them being mathematicians or something like that... doing funky math tricks in their music.
  21. Yup, fantastic stuff! Heh, I was introduced to Al DiMeola on Don Kirshner's Rock Concert (let's see who's old enough to remember that show ) late 70's, early 80's I think. I think I still have a video tape of it but on BetaMax (don't have a beta machine anymore though .) Strunz and Farah are incredible players... very flamenco like, even though they play with picks . Hmm... never heard of Young and Rollins, I'll have to check them out. Another guitarist in this vein worth checking out is Jeff Kollman. He's can be considered one of those electric speed demon but he has this cool latin influenced sound to his playing. The Guitar9 website has some clips of Cosmosquad.
