  1. I'm with Scott on this one. I build guitars because I want something that I'll love, and good quality hardware is a big factor for me. I'm not saying that it's necessary to buy the most expensive stuff you can find, but if you're going to spend hours and hours creating something, why cap it off with junk?
  2. You can always try to steam dents out. A soldering iron and damp rag can repair some surprising stuff!
  3. Nice to see another build thread, Carl! I like the specs so far... have you decided on a finish yet?
  4. Wow, that's quite the project there. You're right though...if nothing else, you've probably got $50 in value with the case and random parts.
  5. That sounds and looks fantastic- well done! I actually like the diode and real chunk of volcano, it's a great detail.
  6. Thanks! It was a fun evening, for sure. Pretty cool update- the guy that ended up buying the red guitar is having a custom display case made so he can display the guitar in his engineering firm office. Not only that, but he's going to donate the guitar back to the foundation for next year's event so someone else can bid to have it for a year and raise more money. The idea is to keep that going for as long as they can, he says. To be honest, I'm lightly sad that this guitar has turned into more of a trophy than a player, but hey, it's all for a good cause.
  7. That V is so cool... what a great shade of green you hit. I like the Caparison-esque headstock, too!
  8. I fixed the first video as soon as I finished my first reply to you 4-ish hours ago. Hopefully I've learned my lesson and can post videos properly from now on
  9. Possibly? When I uncheck it, everything seems to work as intended, so I just won't select that option from now on. Just to confirm- you can see both videos properly now, right?
  10. It's not private, it's just unlisted so you can't search it. The link should work as if it's public, though. I clicked 'make responsive' though, which seems to be the factor that's common among my busted videos. I won't click that again.
  11. Thanks Carl! Yeah, this guitar has had some issues early in life, haha.
  12. It's probably something I did, I've been having bad luck with those. I give up for now
  13. @ScottR- Thank you! I'm pretty sure I fixed the video, by the way. @Andyjr1515- Thanks Andy! It was really hard to let this one go,... I really hope the new owner loves her.
  14. Hey everyone, I'm finally back at home after this weekend's event Everyone involved had a great time and the auction went very well! I just realized I never showed pics of the entire package up for auction. The guitar was bundled with a Gator vintage brown case and Couch Cadillac brownburst strap. The cool thing about this strap? It's made from original vinyl used on 70's Cadillac roofs. The event was held on a gorgeous property out in Jupiter, FL. The weather was amazing, it couldn't have been a better setup. So here's my little table. And after the auction, one of the bands wanted to try the guitar, so of course I let him have a go. He loved it! I must say, I'm impressed with the versatility of this pickup set. From the cleans and high-gain stuff Anthony did in my previous clip to this guy's country-style setup, the DiMarzios really handled everything well. Oh! By the way.... the guitar ended up raising $3500 for the foundation
  15. Personally, if I were to do body binding, I wouldn't want to see any top wood poking out under the bottom edge. So yeah, I'd base my top on the thickness of the binding you're planning on using, then make up the thickness with the body core like you said. 6mm is a hair under 0.25", so it's not like you're looking for a weirdly thin top or anything.
  16. This is looking great! I really love the koi inlay, it's a great touch.

  18. Alright, I've finally managed to take a moment and get some finished pictures. This past week has been insane- I've been preparing to move again, working, finalizing everything on this guitar, and getting ready for the event tonight. Phew! Anyway, all that said, here's the padauk Voyager MS6! And bonus: sound clips!
  19. Thank you! Multiscale is great fun, you should totally try it.
  20. Thanks Andy! Carl- I'm definitely interested in learning more about the composition of this stuff and similar products. I think it'd be fun to develop my own oil blend, even if it was just a one-off experiment. I know you're much more knowledgeable on finishing products than I, do you have any suggestions on some reading I could do? By the way... the guitar is finished. I'll get some pics and sound clips tomorrow!
  21. Haha yep, the mats definitely get used for all sorts of tasks. Oh man, sapele would be fantastic with this stuff. I'm not sure what exactly is in Odie's Oil, but I'm fairly sure he uses a lot of citrus oils. It certainly smells like that, anyway.
  22. Killer! I think the open-pore satin option is a great match for your overall aesthetic.
  23. So close to the finish line! I'm going to install the electronics and do final setup stuff tomorrow.
