  1. I use a company called Pololu. They charge per minute of laser time, material cost, and shipping. I don't like to post prices publicly, but if you shoot me a PM, I'll gladly give you any info you want. I will say that it's decently pricey, but well worth it based on time savings and pretty much guaranteed accuracy.
  2. My templates have finally arrived! I love the smell of freshly lasered acrylic in the afternoon. Here's hoping this means I'll be able to get some real work done soon!
  3. Thank you! This will most likely get a simple oil finish.
  4. Hey friends! I'm excited to announce my next build, a design I've named Nova. This is sort of an odd bird, as it's a mashup of Tele and SC JR, but with a lightly extended scale. Specs: 26" scale Walnut body/neck Katalox fretboard Hipshot Tele bridge Mojotone Broadcaster Clone bridge pickup Mojotone Classic Minihumbucker neck pickup Here's my CAD rendering: And some of the wood involved: I'm hoping to get some of the initial rough work done next weekend, but we'll see what the future holds. Thanks for taking a look!
  5. I think I need to see that movie now. It sorta reminds me of this: I Bought a Vampire Motorcycle (trailer in link) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fbvqz-nv7Zw
  6. All fair points. I'd certainly get my beer hand fixed too!
  7. I'm not usually a red fan, but that thing is insanely pretty. Great work, as always!
  8. Nice! I'm glad you found a finish that works well for you.
  9. This will be the first build of yours that I can watch in real time from start to finish. I'm excited to see how it goes!
  10. Alright friends, I'll jump on in. Presenting my second scratch-build: Voyager. If you've seen my thread, you know that this was built over the course of a few months at the Musicians Institute here in Los Angeles. If you haven't, now you know! This was my main project and I couldn't be happier with the outcome. Specs: Honduran mahogany body Maple neck Rosewood fretboard w/MOP inlays 25.5" scale Gotoh hardtail bridge Gotoh mini tuners Custom hand-wound pickups
  11. I'd probably ask a lawyer or someone who works in design/manufacturing, or maybe licensing.
  12. YOU GUYS. IT'S IN MY APARTMENT. And now for the good(?) part: I made a little video!
  13. Thank you! This guitar is incredibly comfortable to hold and play- the body just seems to meld with you. The neck feels good too, it's ~0.800" at the 1st fret and has the shoulder blended, so it feels like a slightly thinner version of an older Strat neck. I'll be better able to give playing impressions once it's all set up. And no... unfortunately, I had to install a tree. This design is meant to have an angled headstock, and I think it'll look better without the tree.
  14. Good news everyone! Seriously though, I got my guitar all wired up, assembled, and tested! Pickups direct mounted and soldered in. Cutting the initial string slots. Neck screws! Assembled and strung up. Everything was tested and verified working, so it's on to final setup. I'll do a little video and stuff after I get her graded and brought home. Thanks for looking!
  15. Thanks! I'll admit that it's more blue than I was originally aiming for, but I like it too
  16. Final assembly is underway! Lining up the tuners. Gotoh hardtail. So simple, so good. Dropped in the wiring harness and got the jack hooked up. That last one is extremely green for some reason. The actual color is only slightly more green than the blue that most of these photos show. So there it is! This will definitely be done by the end of the week!
  17. Hey man, I appreciate the compliment but I wish you wouldn't be so hard on yourself.
  18. I built a tester body and neck from Jatoba just for experimental purposes. It's close to 14 pounds, but it's extremely vibrant and lively, as you guys both say.
  19. Thank you again! I did learn how to make small spot repairs, but remixing this color would be difficult at best. Give me a black or clear finish though, and I could make it look at least halfway decent.
  20. Thank you! Unfortunately, due to class and time constraints, I'm not able to repaint. I wish I could, but I'm just looking at them as reminders of lessons learned.
