  1. :o OMG!! that's a hell of a tutorial Nice work LGM! i wonder whether i'll ever see the words 'oh that looks shite lgm!' not likely in this lifetime!
  2. yes darren did do the prototype the first batch of production MCs were done by the dude in japan, about 60 according to darren because ibanez japan wanted to try doing it themselves to save on costs but when steve finally saw one he was quoted as saying something like "What the **** is that?!?" LOL because it looked nothing like the prototype so then ibanez switched to Darren who did the rest Darren's definitely do look way cooler but still not my favourite colour scheme for a swirl
  3. check out ATD too i'm pretty sure they did every swirl on ibanez's production jems and universes and all Steve Vai's swirls except the first batch of UVMC's which was done by some dude in japan i think http://www.abouttimedesigns.com/Swirl%20Home1.htm
  4. actually they made the v-twin as a rackmount pre as well but i believe it was discontinued that's why it's not on their site but you can still find references to it and the manual on the site i'm looking into a deal at the moment a quad pre for $350 some people think the quad is better than the studio and some say it's the other way around i'm probably just gonna go with whatever i can find
  5. Welcome! good to see the user list growth seems to be speeding up
  6. yeah Triaxis and the rackmount rectifier are both too expensive i'm checking out a Quad pre for $350US i at the moment but i'm not sure if i would be better off holding out for one of the others instead
  7. Formula?, Quad?, Studio?, V-twin? yes i still haven't decided on a preamp, i was buying an Engl e530 but that deal fell through so any info on the mesa gear above would be handy from what i've read the studio pre is the best followed by quad then formula then v-twin
  8. sounds great have you seen the red/white/black jem swirl in Herc Fede's gallery?
  9. i don't know i'm only planning for my first swirl project gonna get underway after i do up my jem(mirror/black)
  10. figure i may as well....... Jem7dbk > Marshall JCM2000 DSL100 > Marshall 1960a 4x12 cab basic huh soon to be: RG7620 TC Gmajor Carvin T100 power amp and at this stage maybe a boogie preamp yes i'm goin rackmount
  11. told ya this would be handy hey, ya gotta turn around and laugh at life sometimes
  12. here's a nice pic out of many of Cerealk's jem77bmc hope you don't mind me posting this simon easily one of my fav swirls ever!! http://www.jemfest.com/misc/simon/oz/angle2.jpg
  13. sorry bout the misunderstanding strings through the body would be for sound quality (more vibrations or resonation sent through the body)
  14. yeah that's a tough lookin 7 have you seen cerealk's swirl though? (a moderater on this forum in case you don't know)
  15. some people just prefer not to use a tremolo cause they don't really need it or don't like it the advantages are firstly string changing and setups are easier (only as opposed to locking trems) and there are sound differences too like better sustain and tone although tone is always relative
  16. of course you can change the scale just like a with 6 string but you don't need to do it jus because it has 7 strings check this out for an awesome baritone 7 string http://www.vai.com/Machines/guitarpages/guitar117.html
  17. no, i can't see why it would make any difference to neck length
  18. nice work! just wondering are there any ibanez factory photos or vids floating around the net?
  19. post a few pictures if you can i'm sure someone here would notice the problem if they could see it
  20. i'd assume the dryer wouldn't be used on heat just fan but it still wouldn't work
  21. cool stuff! i so want to do a fully chrome/lit up jem or UV right now it's about 5th on my guitar project list
  22. ok thanks, that's what i assumed
  23. both!(to do with wood) i know about them in other contexts(obviously) probably just my lack of experience on woods though
