  1. No joke Norris! I was thinking the fretboard was stationary and the area where the router sides on top would be radiused but being able to rock the fretboird and put it at different heights for different radiused is just genius!!
  2. Oh I see I thought you were talking about the screw that hold the saddles in the correct place for intonating. I just did a little test here at work and tapped a 1/8" thick piece of aluminum with 1/4" 20 tap and it took 40 ft/lbs before pulling the threads so I think he should be fine in that department. As for the grub screws I am thinking you may have used a really low grade piece of aluminum as I've had bridges before that are 6061-t6 with no ill effects. I'm about to have 3 going on my guitars within the next week and I have 10 more I'm getting ready to make.
  3. Although brass screws wouldn't be a bad idea since stainless may allow you to put more force on them than the brass will.
  4. Me and Andrew talked it over quite a bit about tapping the aluminum for the screws. I really think that aluminum should be fine for this, these screws really don't require any sort of torque, hand tight should be fine.
  5. Wow thanks curtisa, that Means a lot seeing your builds! I really need to give a headless a shot I think.
  6. That's actually a pretty great method it seems like. I've been thinking about getting a new miter box for my fret slotting but I may have to rethink that and go with the table saw blade. Thanks for sharing!
  7. Ohh another curtisa build, nice!! ive always loved the Home Depot challenges, ima be following this for sure!
  8. Norris, I've been seeing quite a few people using a table saw to slot fretboards and it seems like people are liking it. I don't quite understand how they know where to make the cut but is interesting. Also that fretboard radiusing jig is pretty damn cool!
  9. Holy crap, where in the world did you find that multi scale tele bridge in your cad drawing?!? Hahaha
  10. Also, one of my old motorcycle riding buddies contacted me last week and told me his family owns a hardwoods company in California and I told him I had been wanting to find a buckeye burl top. He asked me last night for my address and his mom is sending me a bookmatched top of buckeye burl and my first order is free, so score! I'm excited to see what they ship. He also said they have a ton of figured English walnut, I'm pretty sure that will have to be on the next order.
  11. It's really frustrating because I like to get things and be able to work them right then lol. I think now that they are getting use to the 70 degrees at my work I'm going to go ahead and joint them, keep my heater on in the truck when transporting them home and then do everything inside my house until I can get them glued up to the body. Hopefully the less change In temp the less movement I will have.
  12. My quilted top came in last night, I was so happy and couldn't wait to get it jointed and glued up. I left it sitting on my kitchen countertop so I would remember to take it to work to joint it in the morning. Went to grab it this morning and both pieces bowed like crazy. i messaged the guy I got it from and he said it needs to acclimate to my weather/humidity so stake it and put something heavy on it for a few days and it should flatten out. FINGERS CROSSED!
  13. Thank ya tekkelenburg! I think it'll look really good once finished, im gonna get the edges scraped tonight and hopefully get the 50 degree weather this Saturday and I'll hopefully be able to start the nitro. These 20-30 degree days are killing me!
  14. I have finally gotten the paint the way that I want it on the prs body. I had just about lost all hope but it finally ended up working out. I have had to reseal and reprint it 3 times now. I grain filled which I probably didn't even need to do because of the shellac, then I sprayed 4 coats of shellac with sanding in between each coat to get it nice and smooth and then was able to spray my black coat. I kept getting fish eyes in the black, I think the cold has a part to play in that, I was spraying light coats and I just couldn't get rid of them so I steadily made my coat thicker with each spray and it ended up getting rid of them all and it's pretty much perfect now.
  15. Gorgeous, I love that top! I do see where you get a hint of a prs in it, when I look at it I can't help but think it looks a lot like my carve top flamed maple build I've got going on before I dyed it. They could almost be twins.
  16. I started spraying shellac on the prs body again, this is the third time I've stripped it now. I am going to spray 4-5 coats of shellac this time with sanding between each coat. I'm 2 coats in now and it's looking much better than the last 2 times. While I was waiting on shellac to dry I did a little hand carving on the body heel of the thinline tele, I just thought it needed a little something there to go along with the purpleheart/maple heel carve.
  17. Scott, the only guitar company I can think of doing anything close to an "f through hole" would be neko guitars.
  18. I have always radiused the fretboard and fretted after the neck carve. I'm actually really liking the idea of doing it after to have a flat surface to work on. Nice work as always!
  19. I got my new jig in today from Andrew (knightro guitars) and I have to say this has probably been my favorite investment yet in the guitar building world. It use to take me about an hour to get my scarf joints glue ready and I was able to get this thing done in about 20 minutes tonight, it was super easy to use and just made my life so much easier. So thanks Andrew!
  20. Thanks Scott! I was pretty worried about doing a 3 piece top original because I figured you'd be able to tell but I think they all work together really well.
  21. Walnut/zebrawood/flamed maple update: i got the neck mounting holes drilled with neck mounting ferrules so it's all one piece now, also got the headstock thicknessed, tuner holes drilled and the volute carved out. I'm still trying to decide if I want to go my normal route with the hipshot style fixed bridge or go with a recessed tom this time. i also screwed up on my fretboard, I didn't realize I should have kept the end of the fretboard square and just rounded the ends on the neck so I took to much off at the ends of the 24th fret so neither of the e strings will be usable on that fret. I'm thinking I'm going to round the end of the fretboard over there to get rid of that slot and just have a 23 fret guitar.
  22. Prs body sortof update: I went to scrape the edges on the prs body to get a nice crisp line at the edge of the black and realized I screwed up by using a white primer coat, after I got the edges scraped you could see white at the edge and that wasn't going to work so I had to sand the top down. I think I'm going to have to spray a coat of shellac as the primer instead.
