  1. Same here.It is very satisfying when you are done. I did the radiusing and fretting on my present build and must say Cocobolo is one hard wood.I have another board but may put that off for something different.I don`t look foward to radiusing that stuff again.I hope this neck plays as well as my first one.
  2. A little fretting A little body shaping http://i135.photobucket.com/albums/q130/goat552/DCP_3209.jpg
  3. I`m not against templates, but I don`t believe that`s what building guitars is about. Not to me anyway. Building guitars is more about having fun for me.Oh,I have Three routers, two router tables,a 2 1/2 hp plunge router,templates... ....if I bought a CNC machine, for business reasons I understand it,but for personal building, well you get the picture.
  4. I agree, although I`ve only built one guitar and that was a neck-thru.It went fairly smooth. For some reason I`d rather carve the body by hand than route, although I was probably forced to do it due to my lame bandsaws.By the time I set up to route I could already be deep in wood chips with the rasps. As a matter of fact,I just finished that a couple of minutes ago on my bass body.I enjoy the rasps.
  5. Tonight I glued and pressed in my frets with my homemade caul/press. Neck Fretted http://i135.photobucket.com/albums/q130/goat552/DCP_3190.jpg Back of Neck scarf rough shaping http://i135.photobucket.com/albums/q130/goat552/DCP_3193.jpg
  6. But "Both guitars will become collestor's items"
  7. Yeah,The new ones look great.Too bad the old ones were not MusicMan sized,I could`ve used them.

  11. Nice Drak! Are you going for a heavier crunch or a Ventures type tone? It will probably hit both, huh? Good One

  13. Man time flies.I`m 29 in the photo. Now I`m 45 Playing my Fender P-Plus Mid Hudson Civic Center
  14. Bilious, Do me a favor and use one from a Triumph. That`s what Steve McQueen would do!
  15. Might as well add a slot to put a comb to tease out the hairspray too!
  16. Hey Wes, Did you ever finish that Pine Chambered Hollowbody,I tried searching for it and couldn`t find it!
  17. If it`s an already finished neck you have your work cut out for you.A thickness sander is of no use. If you can sand back to the natural wood, lay a veneer on there.Any thicker you are going to make your tuners irrelevent and I don`t know if you can take alot off cleanly if you want to put on a thicker piece of Wenge.
  18. Depending on the scale length you want, most basses are 34" from nut to bridge for standard long scale. That would be 17" to the twelth fret. For neck pocket do search and check the tutorals, that`s how you will learn more. Pickups are your preference for what sound you are going for.I like Bartolini. The depth of route depends on your pickup choice, where they sit tonally in relation to your strings and the type of sound they pickup. There is a sweetspot, but each pickup is different depending on what sound you`re trying to get out of `em.
  19. Can you post a pic of the headstock?
  20. Mick, you are probably right. I was thinking it sanded back to natural wood, but the filler and/or sealer is probably deeper than that. Sorry
  21. Cut out ALL the flame maple you put in there and hand him back the rest in the pieces he supplied.
  22. Maybe do a two stage stain to bring out the grain, like black, sand, and then a light color, then clear over it.
