    Also, poplar has a reputation for splitting, and could easily do so during fretting. Definately go with something harder.

    For this to be effective there needs to be absolutely zero space between, that could normally be "slopped" with glue. You will find that bolt on necks are, in fact, easier to come by. I prefer set necks because of the access, and it has been my experience that they have less and more uniform decay. My theory is that a guitar must be solid all the way through, but thats another dicsussion... You may want to try a neck through, as they can be easier than a bolt on. Check out carvin for neckthru types. Good luck with your project!

    I almost mistook that plywood for quilt maple. I agree that the horns are too heavy. It would be sweet to model the paint job after the grain on that. It wood look kinda like blood.

    Definately read everything on www.reranch.com, and also check out their forum at www.reranch.com/reranch , as it is loaded with info more oriented towards DIY finishing.

    One thing i is when people look too arogant. Some claim they are expressing themselves, but even with metal, I cant stand when performers look overly angry and full of themselves. Headbanging is alright, just not arrogantly.

    I know many make the angle on the neck, rather thanin the pocket. I'm not sure witt LPs though.

    Actually I decided to use some Posphorescent mix with epoxy. I'll lett everyone know how it turns out.

    Check out the forum there. There are plenty of pics where people get great results with Reranch products. Also, if you want the strat to yellow like a vintage one, it will be in your interest to use clear.

    Hey, I know this topic has been discussed; i used the search button and got some answers. But.. Should this be clearcoated? What kind of designs do you think would look cool? (its going to be under the bridge)

    That PRS place where they glued on the wings kind of got me as well, but i still love them. Just remember that the hollow part of a PRS isnt the only thing that makes it sound great.

    I have been a drummer for some time, and its generally the same. You dont really need that much knowledge of notes to begin. Music is more specific for those who read it, but the average drummer does not follow music very closely, except for percussion and such.

    IF you clamp it and glue it, I'm pretty cure it will stay. Wood glue makes a strong bond, and you got plenty of surface area.

    I am trying to determine what would be the most effecient thing for my project, and what people really wanna know. I think body type would be good; its something that hardly anybody has done. People that have a mahogany guitar and an ash guitar usually have different pickups or fretboard and such. Its so hard (and expensive) to isolate all the variables, so im asking what you all think. Thanks for the replies so far.

    It can be anything from growing plants to seeing if gum spots on the ground deter people from walking there. The course is called research design, with the primary objective of teaching how to design an experiment. For me, I plan to go into engineering, so i look at it in that respect, but i am open to ideas.

    I may be able to do this, as i have a 66 tele and a 65 SG. As for quantifying it, i think that i will let a number people (both player and non players) listen to sound clips and allow them to tell the difference. Now I have to find someone to borrow a modern tele from. By the way, I am a Junior in high school. I dont think i can count on an ascilliscope (sp) for my data, hence my other method of quantification.

    Hey, For school i have to do a long term research project that involves collecting data and experimenting, so i was thinking i'd do something with guitars. Does anybody have any ideas for this, such as measuring sustain of different materials, neck joints, etc? The data has to be quantifiable, which will be the hardest thing to do, so I ask you, any ideas? This could be a chance to prove/disprove certain myths.

    Thank you. That's exactly what I was trying to tell him. Be the real deal, not a poser. LOL!! Yea i dont abuse my guitar. I have one that i dont mind if there are any dents on it, but i dont really get some of it.

    Your title is fairly misleading by the way. What you need to do is put on your punk belt with metal studs, maybe a few studded bracelets, and just play the crap out of it. Bounce it off the wall, spin it on the floor, spill some stuff on it, clean it with bleach, spray it with lighter fluid then light it on fire, shoot it with a bb gun, practice darts on hit, use throwing knives, tow the body behind your car, all while not trying to damage the neck. If you are trying to get a "vintage" or "reliced" look, you cant really do it with polyurethane finishes, so some sandpaper for the forearm contour may be in order.

    Yea, with 400 bucks shipping. I actually just recieved 5 DPDT On On On switches from a seller in Hong Kong for about 10 bucks total. Something like a switch cant be but so bad right? After all they are made there. They are fine, and would have cost about 12 bucks each. Shipping took about two weeks, but i was in no hurry. Make sure they dont have private feedback.

    The SH-1 is a humbucker right? I do not know if it is four conductor or not, but if it is you can do coil splitting, parrallel operation, out of phase, and all sorts of stuff. If its not, you could add a switch that controlls the phase of the two pickups, or possibly the operation of them in series.

    I say electric green flake with blue flames. I think a slight amber would look great, but it looks amber as it is. That piece would look great for a semi hollow. IMO, hollow bodies must look well crafted, natural and "high class", while solid bodies can be bright "immaturish" colors.
