I like everything in this thread so far, from wood choices to  @Bizman62 suggestions. I would also go with gluing one half of the table to a full table board so you get "veneer-solid wood- veneer - solid wood - veneer" lamination in the end. That way, you'll have a layer of veneer in the middle, giving you something like:

Still one of my favorite builds around these places. But yeah, look at the sideprofile of that build, the thin line separating two solid pieces of wood. You'd just have it inverted, a dark line separating light pieces of whatever that wood is. On the outside I'd keep the white paint pore filled sides.

Noob question, but could this result in "clacking" or other weird noises being sent trough the body out the soundhole? Metal hitting metal (with one being firmly secured onto the body)... not sure I'd go down this route.

Even after keeping them under water, it won't dissolve in water, so when you put them out to dry, spread nicely and keep an eye. Just to be on the safe side.

I'm so confused at how you're gluing and clamping this up. I had a totally different approach to this in my head, but it looks like you've got it sorted out. Really looking forward to it being planed and shaped. 

Progressing really fast for a first build, great job, it's coming together really nice!

Looks really clean and nice and the artistic pickguard really makes it pop. And please, please, please, not the blue leopard pickguard, let's not get back to the "old ladies of the night" discussions again.  

Turned out absolutely fabulous. Great job man, pretty quality therapy right there.

Damn, small accident with a furnace... glad you're still here to build and tell the tale. Looks like a fun undertaking. 

This is so raw but nice, I like it. As for the nut, I put it on its place and use a pencil to mark the radius of the fretboard on the nut and use that as a guide to slotting. Everything else I agree with what @ScottR said.

I wouldn't make a top for the headstock, but then again, I love that "racing stripes" look that goes across the whole body, and I'd definitely keep it that way, but to each his own. Nice progress so far, great job  

Body work wise, very little is now left to be done (well, besides hammering in and dressing the frets). Carved the neck with one of those saw rasps + roughly sanded with a sanding block + 80 grit sandpaper. Such a fun and rewarding build step.

I will carve the heel joint a little more, so the olive is a nice flowing curve from horn to horn. otherwise the neck is done. Got it to ibanez wizard neck thickness. Can't wait to brush it up with fine grit sandpaper and give it a satin finish.

As for the headstock joint/volute, due to the way it's laminated, I managed to get this: 

I had a rough idea in my head how I'd want the volute to turn out, but this ended up better than I had it in my head  The edges should get a bit sharper and be better defined once I sand it with finer grit, but shape wise, that's it  

Did anyone call dibs on this yet? If not I'm doing it right now, dibs! As @ScottR said, document the process if you'll mess with the pocket, really curious how you'll do it. Shame about the truss rod, slimming down the neck itself would have been easiest solution.

What @curtisa said. Imagine if you ran the fretboard all the way to the bridge it would get thinner and thinner at the edges, and that's how the saddles will be set up as well.

One option you have is compound radius (link: Compound Radius: Explained | stewmac.com ) but yeah, don't worry about it. It's all good  

Here's an update and rough timeline of what I'm going to do Soon™ 

So what's new? BODY CONTOURS!  The guitar is getting thinner around all edges, specially horns/belly cutout and arm rest... it's also tapering towards the bottom. As it's stands now, that's all the purpleheart that will be poking on the front side. The bottom strandberg-like cut out is also in it's final form. All the curves are now curved out as well, no more weird shapes when you run your hand along the edges. 

Audio jack was also made a tiny bit bigger so it can take even the more chunky cables with metal sleeves. After all that, the fretboard got thicknessed, radiused and glued onto the neck at well. Truss rod works properly, no rattling... super happy how it looks and feels considering it's bamboo.

Left to do: shape the neck, hammer frets in, dress and level them, drill tuner holes, make the electronics cavity cover, recess the bridge and varnish the guitar with Minwax satin finish. I hope I get everything but the finish done by saturday, so I can string it up and see it everything is fine and dandy. 

I'm getting anxious, I can't wait for this build to be done
