  1. Thanks a lot guys. I saw the "compatable with all urethane clears" and got a little spooked as I have fallen in love with laquers. I fired up the compressor to see if I still had a steady hand, it's gonna take a little practice to get the touch back but not as bad as I expected. Thanks for the link chuckie, Than fella' is quite talented! I'll keep at it and let you know... R-
  2. Long story short: I used to be an airbrush geek. I was the geek on the beach doing the obligatory early 90s tees and car tags. I haven't picked up an airbrush in probably 12 years but since it ties in with finishing I thought I'd get back into it. I bought another Paascha VL mostly for detailing and I'll grab an HVLP for total spray tomorrow. ...I can't seem to find much info in the Createx Auto-Air but I remember seeing it mentioned here. What type of paint is it? From the manufacturer of course I they recommend thier own clear. Is it Laquer compatable? Urethane only? Any additioal info would be helpful as well. Thanks in advance, R-
  3. Crafty, if you haven't, it might be worth $30 to order up one of the GFS specific/house brand pups. I think you may be suprised. I don't mean the clearance bin cheapuns' that they do offer but like the retrotrons or boutique pups. I wasn't a believer either until I got some. See logical Franks's clarification of his number two point above.
  4. Hmmm, quite logical....frank....
  5. GFS is one one of my favorite suppliers EVER. I have gotten everything from tuners* to Floyds. How do they sell cheaply? Wal-Mart mentality....VOLUME. I really think most of the stuff they sell is/was intended for OEM use. I mean if you mind they import company that makes pups for say Turser or Indiana guitars and you could probably buy stuff for pennies on the dollar. Throw in some custom stuff just for GFS and you have a winner. Also, I must say the Customer service is amazing. I have placed several orders, none have taken longer than 3 days and all but one was perfect. The one that wasn't a set of tuners got left out. With one e-mail and and on hour later, I got a reply with a shipping confirmation and an appology. As for the tuners, I happen to have used 3 sets of the Kluson style tuners and I give them a thumbs up. While I prefer the split post of the original they are are just as smooth and reliable. And on all sets I had to order the adapter bushings as they went 3/8" holes (mighty might necks) and they worked perfectly. Even the Floyd Rose is great. Granted I have never played or owned another other than an OEM Charvel it replaced, but I love it and it was an easy fit. I have also used several of the strat pup sets, lil' killers, lipstick tubes, a retrotron, and most recently the voiced 180. HTH, R-
  6. Well, I took a trip to seceral local joints (Guitar Center and smaller private) with one of my strats. I played all day on everything from a Roland Cube to a Mesa Nomad (which I loooooved). But suprisingly I decided on a B-52. The cleans seemed the cleanest and the dual gain channels were hot. It seemed brighter than the line 6 (spyder II 212) with great low end. I went home and ordered the 7512 from musicians friend with free shipping. I just got it yesterday and I couldn't be happier. While I regret not being able to play the flextone III (no one had one locally) I was leary of the B-52 simply for the lack of feedback and reviews. But I used my ear with my guitar and am quite satisfied. Thanks to all for you input. R-
  7. There is a joke in there somewhere, but... Awesome Inlay BTW. And even better as a first! I haven't had the guts to try it for myself. I think it would look good on one of metal matt's creations. R-
  8. Awsome, thanks for the tips... R-
  9. Hey Dayvo, thanks for the links. Definately something I would be interested in but I still want an "ol' trusty" standing by. I sort of plan my hobbies in stanges. Up next are necks from scratch, then effects... etc. I crank up a new addition to the hobby and I might find myself divorced....again....err uh... Mammoth, that is a great deal. I'd be spending a a little over budget especially after buying a cab. Well, that and I still don't know anything about it. None-the-lesss I'll do a little research on it and ponder it over. any more info about the combos above? R-
  10. Since completing a strat for my son, he wants my amp. So I am in the market for a new amp. All I have ever played are Marshall and there are a LOT of other choices that I have never had to consider. Here's the jist of what I am looking for: I do not gig, so solid state is fine for me as I like the sounds at lower volumes. However, I want to be able to piss off my wife when the time comes and scare the smaller children and animals when applicable. Basically I think I am looking in the 75 to 100 watt range for a combo. So far the Marshall MG250DFX is up there, but I know absolutely nothing about other models. How (from experience) do the line 6 , Behringer, and B-52 7512 stack up? They seem to be a little cheaper but in the same class? I play everything froma twangy tele and several strats to a hardened Charvel drop D metal, as the wife pisser offer. I went to Guitar Center and played a few of these and well I guess I haven't been playing long enough to have an "ear" for these sorts of things. I mean I could definately tell the marshall had a brighter cleans, but not much else. I want a good clean and a mean gain. I would prefer a footswitchable channel select and I would like to keep in the or under the $500 range. Thoughts? Thanks in advance R-
  11. Gotta say; I think the cort should be left alone as they aren't "bad" guitars as is. Though both points are well made. It is your guitar, and your money. Tuners may be a good idea regardless though. I undertand mickguard as well as I tinker and build way more than I play. But that is because I enjoy it probably just a little more. Nothing wrong with that right? But Crafty's point of a solid platform to make a monster is true. Some of the older models are well build (and some not). I think it comes down to what you want and what you want to play. I have a squire tele and damn me if it doesn't play like a dream. I love the thing almost as much as my strats. If I may be so bold, I would venture at your age you probably want to hear more 50s and 60s type music and that is personified and defined by the tele twang. Congrats on the auction. R-
  12. Like a true strat junkie: have: -SRV esque 88 Standard naturally semi-relic burst body,93 standard 1 piece neck, TX specials, Gold hardware & Kluson's -05 Aerodyne strat -Squire standard alder body, Warmoth neck strat with GFS vintage pups -97 Charvel strat -Oly white 89 Japan strat -1928 Gibson L-3 acoustic carved top -Ovation acoustic (lower end model) -Marshall MG 30 DFX Want: 60s original LP better (bigger amp) Im 30ish and have kids so gigging will never be an option so a little bigger solid state would suit me fine. Ooo and a GDEC so I can tinker with the drum/bass lines
  13. WIRE_DOG! Hehe, yup you guys were everything from the 29 to the 31 series. Of course the old wire dogs have gotten a little technologically advanced since then I guess. No fiber Optics and LAN was laughable. I remember the old satphone days where I would break 'em and hand em over to a tech to fix it. (those were the intel days) Then I reclassed into air traffic thinking it would be a cake job. I ended up running tactical landing zones and FARPS From Camp red cloud north. Korea had to be the coldest and the hottest place I have ever been (in one place). I don't know why but talking to guys like you makes me want to jump out of perfectly good aircraft aircraft again. Preferably a UH-1 with a rope...Air Assault (dope on a rope)! R-
  14. Recieved Friday, look new, the multimeter likes 'em, and so do I. Thanks for a good transaction. R-
  15. Maiden, I spent 7 years in the Army and sure I bitched about it here and there, but I miss it greatly now. It sort of gets in your blood and becomes part of who you are. I recently have gone through a really rough time with missing it since I hit an anniversary of being out as long as I was in. Combine that with the news of a fallen soldier who I trained years ago. I don't regret getting out, but I definately miss the comradare and structure. Good luck and Godspeed none-the-less. Mind if I ask where you were in Korea and what your MOS is? R-
  16. Sweet, what did you decide to do for a bonding agent? R-

  18. I'll Take em! PM your paypal info please. :0) R-
  19. My vote is dead pup. Also, grab a meter they are seriously less than $10 at wally world and while not accurate enough to wire the shuttle, good enough for a baseline.
  20. No sweat, but don't worry about it. After an hour lecture on why we can't put a Fender logo on it, he has decided to come with his own. While he did a pretty nice job with the build doing as much as he could himself (he hates sanding now, hehe). We have a problem with the body, so I am ordering a new one giving him plenty of time to come up with his own logo and for the laser paper to get here (internet order). Thanks again though all there will be pics in a build post when we are done. R-
  21. Amazon.com is a great place to buy tools as well after you have done your research and made a choice. ALOT of thier tools ship free. I bought a 600 lb. Delta Table saw and had it drop shipped to my garage FREE, that and not paying tax I ended up paying nearly $500 less than I could have bought it locally. They also carry most brands including Grizzly, Jet, Delta, etc. HTH, R-
  22. IME, I run higher speeds almost always. Though I am sure tearout in softer materials may be more common with higher speeds. But the best advice I can give is collet size. If you can run the 1/2" collet and bits You will find a more stable cut with less bit chatter. HTH, R-
  23. You sir (bored or not) are a wonderful soul. Exact type I am talking about! While I am creative with plastics, dabble in paints (airbrushing and oils), and handy with a pencil, I am unfortunately behind the times when it comes to graphic computer type stuff. Sure sign of getting old I guess.... Hrmm, would you mind dabbling a little more with the font? Maybe Micahman or Micah castor? At you leisure of course, and bill me when you are done! :0) I may if you don't mind download or have you e-mail the file to me when done and try to print here to save time. I REALLY appreciate your efforts. Yet another reason I love the people at PG. R Oh yeah, and it's a Mightly Might standard strat neck. Pics will be posted soon, The body is still in the booth. Assembly will we tomorrow or Thursday. R-
  24. Thanks guys! I have read Jehle's tut and think its a great idea, though I prefer a waterslide. Mikhail, has a good idea and worth considering, and I'll check out the inkjet paper as well. Wes, I'll be ready for this quite soon which leaves ordering from the UK out. Most likey I'll try a laser jet if I can find the paper (work machine or Kinko's). How 'bout those creative ideas? :0) He's 13, his name is Micah, he's a videogame junkie, and kinda resembles a sufer/skater lawndart. Floppy blonde hair and is tall and thin. I say lawndart because I swear I could toss him in the air and he would javelin effect into the ground.
