  1. Yes, thank you for the suggestion. I have the neck dead straight and the wraparound bridge decked. Since the Golden Age low profile is adjustable, I would presume it may have more height than the non-adjustable PRS wraparound as measure from the saddle notches, but since nobody ever provides that spec, I would need to measure to be sure. Which PRS bridge do you have? Great thought about filing on the 12" radius. Thank you. As I sit here and play it, I will say that it is plenty low enough for my taste. And it is buzz free with a dead flat neck. I might not even want it any lower, but IMHO you should be able to bottom out the strings to the frets and I want to KNOW I don't want it any lower. Concern for these details could be how many of us landed on this forum in the first place, I imagine!
  2. Mates, I have 2 PRS with a non-adjustable stop tail where the strings will not touch the frets even with the bridge screwed all the way down. I think this is mainly due to the shallow neck angle on PRS. Now, the strings do get plenty low, but I would prefer a tad lower. I don't know of any bridges out there with less height than a PRS non-adjustable stoptail that fit a PRS (even the so called Golden Age low profile bridge from Stew Mac, which has adjustable saddles and is likely thicker/taller). Also, PRS has the rather unique 10" radius. There is very little to the base of the studs, so shaving them down is not really an option. I had a talk with John Mann today (MannMade bridges), who told me he noticed the same issue. His studs have .003" less mass at the base than PRS for this reason. Helpful gain, but not much. John Mann suggested what I was also thinking...file the string slots down to taste. He advised that all PRS string slots are 1/16" (or about 1.5mm). In that regard, I found a very helpful set of round files. See link below. https://www.riogrande.com/product/micro-shaper-round-diamond-file-set-240-mesh-set-of-4/114814GP/?code=114814 I presume you could also use a nut file @ .056" or .065" I ordered the round files and will report back my results. If anyone else has noticed this, please let me know. Thanks
  3. A truly beautiful and inspiring build!
  4. Thank you! The funny thing is that I made that jig and used it for the truss rod channel. Then I cut the neck to shape. I didn't think about sticking the shaped neck to a rectangular board and using it again until it was suggested here! I hope to give it a shot tomorrow. I spent today making cutting boards for Christmas gifts
  5. So put epoxy in the base of the channels for the rods?
  6. More useful advice than I asked for or could have hoped for. Thank you gentlemen!
  7. Side question please: Should I be concerned about the decreased surface area for gluing the fretboard to the neck with routes for the truss rod and two 380mm L x 3mm W rods? Thanks for any guidance.
  8. Thank you all for the very helpful suggestions. @Akula, cool jig. I may need to build one
  9. Make that "poor planning", not pure planning! I missed my editing window.
  10. Mates, I need practice making necks, and I had this quilt maple blank, so I had some fun in the shop today. In a classic case of pure planning, I later discovered that the stability of quilted maple would be greatly improved by a couple of carbon fiber rods. However, I am not sure how to slot the channels at this stage. Of course, I would like the rods to run parallel to the truss rod, on either side. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated,
  11. Thank you all for the compliments. It means a whole lot coming from this crew!
  12. Thank you very much! Here is a "no frills" clip of neck-middle-bridge I did for someone else curios about the pups. Also, I bent out of tune a bit since they were new strings, but it is a clean sound sample nonetheless
  13. Thank you! I used guitar madness pups. See below link. They really sound fantastic. https://www.ebay.com/itm/273946264628
  14. Well, I finally got this one done. Everyone was absolutely right about the strong start to delayed finish! Much of it was a very busy work schedule though. Anyway, here it is, stained without finish. I was going PRS Solana Burst, yellow over orange With poly The back after poly. Natural with a deep belly cut Carving a neck I had started and using my new Total Vise #7 (bottom of photo). I added wood to the heel so I could achieve the desired action with the low profile bridge I was using My new arbor press made into fret press (but not quite yet in this pic) Done! It is a nice player
  15. I am sorry to hear this. You do great work. I hope the transition away from work decreases the effect of your health issues.
  16. Agreed and thank you! The neck is very challenging. At present, I must fight a tendency to make them too thick.
  17. Just another guitar build. I learn something every time, usually the hard way. At least I make my own necks now
  18. What was the price? What type of rosewood?
  19. I finally got this neck completed and paired with the guitar it was intended for. The guitar as a whole plays well. Thank you all for the assistance in getting this done
  20. After much tedium, including lots of sanding, I put a coat of seal on this tonight
  21. Each and every one is truly stunning. Impressive and inspiring work!
  22. My efforts continue. 14" radius sanded in, back shape complete. Now for the headstock veneer. The idea was to have maple wings to match the maple veneers, but the tilt in the glue up came back to haunt me and tapered the wings unevenly. Casualty of first tries and a memory of my experience. Onward!
