  1. You are realy patient travis! At this step, i can't wait to play it Simple thing alway's look good. Show us more soon! Philippe
  2. I'm a jazzbass fan and I found this one is realy sharp! EMG p-u is my favorite choice. It's a great instrument you have there. If i fix the body for 1min, i can see dinosaure, is it delibarate? Hope to see new build from you soon! Philippe
  3. That's exactly what i've done yesterday! I test the conductivity by putting a pole on the aluminium shield and the other pole of my multimeter to the body of my pot and there 100% conductive, so dont need to ground every pot = cleaner job. thegarehanman: how do you ground your cavity cover? I dont see any copper shield extension that goes where the cover sit. I'm just curious Philippe
  4. Now... why copper? Aluminum tape offer good conductivity and you can find it at your hardware store. Copper look good, i will put in on my "à acheter" list on my next stewmac order. I test graphite lube on a small piece of wood with my multimetre and there's no conductivity. Useless thanks for your help! Philippe
  5. The graphite paint will come off on your fingers. Are you talking about "Liquid Wrench" of something like that? I wouldn't get that anywhere near an instrument I had a graphite spray can that dry completely and i tried it tonight. That dont let mark on finger, but the graphite film is very light. I'll order 1/2 pint of graphite shield from Stew next time. Philippe
  6. Nice shielding spazzyone! There's a ground wire welded to the bottom plate (copper) of the pick-up, so i assume they're shielded (Delano). Thank a lot for you're helpful information! Realy precious Does graphite lubrifiant can work? They dont dry complettely but i saw some cavity that let graphite mark on my finger. thanks! Philippe
  7. Is it necessary to shield pick-up cavity? I saw some cavity with dielectrical paint, is that a necessity if the pickup are urethane potted? thank! Philippe
  8. individual bass bridge You can get a norrow spacing with these generic ind. bridge. I can't comment the quality but i think that they are in aluminium. Philippe
  9. Korean made basses are well made and cheap. You will not get the finest tone wood but they sound okay and some have good finish. You cant go wrong with an Ibanez gsr200, cort or samick. Even Sadowsky, G&L, Spector, Lakland have "low budget" model made in korea. Good luck! Philippe
  10. +1 If that fine dust is in the air, you're already breathing it. Collect as much as you can from the source, and do it as efficiently as possible. Cyclonic collector, large main trunks. I just bought a craftman 4.0hp vac and that thing is incredible! No more dust in my workshop and no more dust in my music studio (next to my shop) I'll have to bought different conection to adapt all my tools and I'll be ready to make some noise! Philippe
  11. I have some powertools (bandsaw, router, tablesaw, planer...) but nothing to collect dust. I'm asking if this kind of air filter can do a good job for a small shop Does anybody had work with this system? Thank Philippe
  12. Personnaly, I dont think that glue joint have a damping effect on string vibration since the glue we use are harder that the wood itself. I get more sustain from my multi-lam neck that my flat-saw p-bass neck and multi-lam neckthrought are realy popular for there sustain. Here you will find some 3D simulation about the way a guitar react to vibration. Philippe glue hardness by itself does not equal sustain.make a hole body out of it how will it sound Multi meaning many, and what types of wood ar we talikng about in this case and keep in mind tah is a neck that has a fingerboard connecting the lams and screws "Clamping" it to the body and the other case is neck through wich is always better for sustain wether its one or seven peices If we follow your thinking, a one piece neck through will have better sustain? If you have better sustain with a 3 parts body, it's because you have 2 glued joint that make your structure stronger. It's the composite basic.

  14. It effectively made heavy body. Sound clear and lacking deepness, but sound and look good: This white ash bass body weight 5.5lbs. The same design with mahogany+ 1/4 bubinga top weight 4.5lbs! You need good router bits and and dont expect to have plane surfaces beacause it's hard to sand. You will still feel some wave after sanding with a sanding block. Good luck! Philippe
  15. I'm working on a friend's 7th strings, and it's .875" thk at first fret and about 1" thk near the heel joint. 4.032" wide at fret 24 and 2.450" at the nut. Sure that it's harder to play than a jazzbass and i have the feeling to play with a road train. But the F# sound hudge! Delano seem to built good P-U for seven strings basses too. Do you plan to build a 36"? It can be a good idea if the bass will support a .155" F# Hope this will help Philippe
  16. Cool concept! Since a fretless bass is not set-uped the same way a fretted is, it should be tricky to play. but it sound good. thanks for you're comments! Philippe
  17. linc luthier neck This neck should be realy strong since you have this kind of bridge effect; like a laminated aircraft floor. Good luck! Philippe
  18. You can download a short soundclip there : sound clip thanks! Philippe
  19. You can use a 1/4" router bit to finish the P-U cavity. I cut the rough part with a 1/2 template bit, and finish it by following the template with the 1/4" bit shank. That's work realy fine but don't stay too long at the same place beacause the shank will burn the template and cause some irregularity! Philippe
  20. It's aluminium tape. I first press the tape against the top of the routed cavity. This way i have the pattern of the recess, so I cut the bottom and stick-it in place with the tape's backing paper. You can eliminate all the bubble in the alu tape by poishing it with the backing film. I never tried copper tape, but aluminium do the job on my single coil fretless. That'a eliminate 90% of the noise, but it's still a single coilled bass! A frined of mine told me that is useless to shield a active emg's cavity, but the job is done! Philippe
  21. can i laught with you? I read a similar thing in a sportcar magazine. The zine said: this car just want to be beaten! and i found that funny see ya Philippe
  22. Here a place where you can download a short mp3 clip : drum&bass. Recorded this way: Bass w/both PU-->eden set flat DI--> fostex mixer (to mix guit/drum/bass) --> iMac with Audacity without EQing. Philippe
  23. I played this bass for the first time with my band and my they fell in love with it. This is truly my favorite slapbass, i'm not a hot slapper, but she just ask to be poped and slapped! Someone can help to found a place to upload some sound clip? Here are pics of the control cavity: See ya Phil
  24. I never saw this system, but the action should be realy high for a fretless when the fret are fliped down. There's hybrid fretted/less bass and this kind of bridge that turn your fretted into a fretless one too. Mike Pope (chick corea bassist) have a magnetic portion of is neck that he can remove to slap more freely. You can see the rosewood portion on the main page of his website mike's bass
