The best advice is to get back on your meds. If I could ever get tone pots in any guitar to start adding gain after 10+ years I would get a patent on it and make tons of money hand over fist. Personally, You have probably changed something - like an amp, or a cable, or a new stompbox, or installed new pickups... No I haven't done anything to it. But eh... you wouldn't be interested in a one of a kind, gain adding, pot, would you ?

I just noticed the tone pots in my LP copy started adding gain to my guitar's signal. Narrowed it down to the guitar causing it. Also noticed a large presence peak in my tone. I always have my volume and tone knobs on 10. I always had a nice open tone on both pickups. Since this morning my bridge pickup has an enormous resonance (presence) peak. Sounds similar to a "half cocked" wah or an oscillation. Tones out of my rig are now very shrill during the initial attack and decay very rapidly Never heard this before in the 10+ years I play this particular guitar. Are the pots / caps dying on me? Or would a broken solder joint be more likely ? Any advice? Thanks everyone.

I've had good experiences with the Norton (DP160) in the bridge and the Air Norton in the neck of a basswood bodied guitar. Nice warm tone, plenty of scream in them if you want that. Not sure if it's your cup of tea though.

Sorry for starting yet another thread about pickup choice. But after reading for days on various forums and review-sites, I still can't make up my mind. In the neck there's definately going to be an Air Norton. For the bridge I'm thinking about : Norton (No soundclips to be found. Besides... I'm a little worried that the neck / bridge positions will turn out too similar.) Tone Zone (Maybe a bit too bassy ?) Steve Special (Maybe too clear ?) D-Sonic (Same as Steve special and a bit too funky looking.) Breed, Airzone, the various Paf's have already been deleted as possible choices. What I'm looking for is a pickup that will cover most styles. (Rock, pop, metal, maybe even some funk, reggae and the like.) In other words, the (split)clean sound is just as important as (pinch) harmonics or it's distorted sound. Since I'm using a GT-Pro and power amp, instead of a tube amp, I don't really need an overly hot pickup to really drive the amp. I'm looking for a nice round and warm tone. Not too sharp or scratchy. Actually I like the stock INF2 a fair bit. I just wish it was a bit more "open" sounding. Does anybody have some views to share on the subject ?

Yeah Scoob... That's part of what I've been reading. But this was in the mid 70's. Too bad there aren't any brands mentioned for glues etc. A couple of years ago Washburn made the "black diamond". There was a making of video available at the time. I haven't been able to find that one onfortunately. If I Google it, all that pops up are some thumbnails.

That's true. But since the RG body has a binding around it, I'll have to spend some serious time double checking it's width all around and routing that off of the template. Oh well.... Nobody said it was going o be easy. ;-)
