  1. Why ruin a perfecty good LP with bc rich style headstock and a fake gibson logo??
  2. Yeah, i think i will go with either Indian Rosewood, or Ebony. I have played a re issue (?) epiphone jr, as soon as i started playing i was in love, so i guess this is why im making one! I know that amber is the most common finish of the 57-59 jr's, but im not sure what that would look like with the elm, i guess i will have to test it out on some scrap. If not amber, i will do either a light grey or white with white or black binding.
  3. Yeah, my router used a bolt and ball bearing to lock its position (it had a round plastic case over a bolt), the thread got melted so i managed to replace it with a huge bolt, bent into U shape which actually works better than the original, though not as confortable. I guess im just glad i got it working!
  4. I can see where you are coming from with the neck pocket, i usually make the neck first, but i have made the neck pocket template from the neck template, so it should fit. (theoretically ) I think your right about the fb wood, i think it will look better with rosewood or ebony personally. The rounding was done, and ended up looking great! BUT, while routing my neck my routers depth stop died so i will have to wait a little while until i either repair or buy a new one, but luckily i got most of it done, and the neck pocket is fine! Thanks for the tips biliousfrog, i think its a good idea to slow down and work out exactly what i want, like you said.
  5. I used to used those flex shafts alot for metal working, though oneday i was using it for a fairly long time and the casing on the dremel started to melt, seconds later the motor blew. Not the safest tools i guess.
  6. Well i just completed #2 last week, so i decided i could start my LP jr i have been waiting to build. Some specs: Elm Body Beech or maple neck (not decided yet) EMG passive HB Wilkinson wraparound bridge or gotoh TOM and tailpiece grover tuners, or cheaper gotoh's figured blackwood fb, or maybe ebony. The body So far all i have done is route the neck pocket, drill some holes for the potentiometers and do some rough sanding on the sides. At the moment it looks ok, its a fairly thin body, being about 37 mm or so thick. I also thought about rounding the back edges of the body with the router im not too sure what it would look like, also i could only have a small rounded edge as the neck pocket is fairly deep and the bearing wouldn't sit on the edge for a larger rounding, although i may find a way around that. Close Up of neck pocket If you have any suggestions on what to do with the rounding, feel free to share So far i don't know whether to do a slightly carved top or to just leave it flat and bind the edges, so far i think i might just bind the top and leave it flat. The everything else So far i havn't decided between beech and maple, i have some nice beech with some nice spotted figure (?) I purchased some fiddleback Aussie Blackwood for my fretboard, although i may just use ebony or indian rosewood instead. http://i24.ebayimg.com/04/i/08/cd/63/78_1.JPG Thats all for now, as soon as i do something else, expect some more images!
  7. As Mattia said, no. Jigsaws are way to violent!
  8. Yep, what you have is pine! Very nice build, especially for a second build! Oh, and i love your design!
  9. Thanks! Man, thats impressive! Also, is it just me or is there alot of beech and birch in sweden?
  10. Hi, changing the tail piece height will affect tuning, the more you depress it towards the body, the tuning will changes, become sharp, and if you make the tailpiece higher, the strings will become flat. understand? By moving the tailpiece you are affecting the length of the strings, not by much but enough to change tuning.
  11. What wood did you use, reminds me of red elm and red cedar?
  12. Hi, if you are looking for anything flamed or quilted, have a look on GuitarWoods, which is run by Gilet Guitars. I have bought loads of stuff there and couldn't be happier with their products and service.
  13. Most RG's do, depends on the model, you won't find a neck pocket like that one the 170's, and the quality of machining depends on the model, they higher the number or the price, the better the machining seems to be. Either way its no problem at all, it doesn't make any difference.
  14. i see how the angle works with your picture, but still, thats a huge angle!, do you plan on having this in a hard case? I thought lp's had 3 degree angles?
  15. erm...i think you will find all 270's and up are like that, well at least i do anyway.
  16. Except for all of us! Looks awesome mate! nice work.
  17. I was looking through my minature Godin catolouge and saw what is listed as the 'Multiac'. I have a few questions: 1. Is it really as simple as a dual chambered mahogany body with a spruce top, and electronics? 2. If so, how the hell do i do it? where do the pickups go? what pickup system? I understand how to chamber guitars, but where does the electronics go? and im assuming that because its a dual chambered guitar the top is in no need of bracing? Sorry for the n00bish questions, i just really like the look of these things, and am intrigued on how they work. I will try and find one to play, then maybe look into building one.
  18. better than 70% of any other mass neck builder out there I would guestimate. you said it exactly massed produced which is warmoth with great marketing chances are what your order from them is sitting on a shelf just waiting on your call hardley custom built jamerson on the other hand wont build till you order and its built to your order not on a shelf just waiting for a home ive had warmoth in the past but it does not compare to my buddies cocobolo neck with a kingwood board that with just a tap test and makes me drool and the quality smoked warmoth hands down Ok..but trying one or two doesn't mean you have tried them all.
  19. I wonder what mirror inlays would look like, thanks for giving me an idea!
  20. Maybe its best to start with templates? As well a some centre lines? Also, you should shape your neck after the trussrod has been installed.
  21. Just a quick question to the umm...original scalloper, how did you do that? looks like a dremel drum sander job?
  22. wow, that flame is awesome, i have a sapele turning blank with figure like it (though not as good!) Nice looking guitars aswell!
