  1. man listen to some Symphony X. Michael romeo is the master at tapping. Hardly easy, though. But awesome to witness. http://www.terminalhour.com/seaoflies.mpg There's a guy playing along w/ a SymX song, Sea of Lies. You relaly have to see Romeo play, its amazing. Or at the very least hear it.
  2. i was thinking maybe a box or something? making a 2 boxes sized perfectly for the guitar body. Know what I mean? Kinda like a barrier on all 4sides, and the body could only just fit and only in one direction. And then flip them over...and they'd only fit perfectly flipped over. I dunno. Maybe it has suggestions in the Forum section? But I'm ASSuming you have to buy the plans to get access to it. here's a guy that uses the carver for bangos. http://www.robertedney.com/workshop.htm here are some other ones http://www.crankorgan.com/
  3. ^i saw that a while ago. But it looks like its made for small jobs. Yeah its scaleable. But how would you fit a router powerful/deep enough to route out things like neck pockets and trem cavitys and control cavities...and what not. And I dunno about flipping it over to do the other side...it seems it'd have to be a pretty accurate flip. I guess centerlines or something? I just dunno about that router stuff. Well obviously it can be done: Musical Instruments - Here is the biggest surprise to me of all. The largest group of Copycarver users is by far guitar, banjo, violin, mandolin and piano builders. I had no idea there were so many people building these instruments by hand as a hobby. The results they have achieved with the Copycarver are overwhelming. Each using the machine not to produce quantity but to produce quality. Once a design is perfected it can easily be reproduced to exacting standards each time, reducing any errors left to chance.
  4. good question... need this info for summer guitar plans.
  5. kramer also has a line of acrylic guitars. http://www.musicyo.com/product_specs.asp?pf_id=350 http://www.musicyo.com/product_specs.asp?pf_id=484
  6. yeah..i know someone, i think brian, suggested making like a puzzle w/ a bunch of little stuff. but...see..i'm not that creative
  7. either way you think about it. You go too far: put slips of veneer and/or wood glue/filler and raise it up. Don't go far enough: Sand 'er down.
  8. i'm here talking to a friend of the female persuasion just got in from making a template of my guitar.. fyi: 1" MDF is a bitch.
  9. i got like 19 pieces of 6x12. i dunno. depends how much you want. prollyj ust a couple bucks more than shipping. I'll prolly keep a few sheets to practice finishing for myself. should say..that i either the pic was edited or the lighting was really bright. the actually veneer is darker. more reddish. will prolly need bleaching for certain colors.
  10. Maple burl http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...item=2565627117
  11. well depends how thick is ur body? i'm assuming 1.75? If you go down 1.25, that leaves .5 left. Is it trem? or what? If its got a trem how deep are you routing for the springs/claw? you may end up going to deep w/ the ears that it comes out the trem cavity.
  12. THey're too small to veneer a normal size super strat guitar. But if anyone needs any to practice finishing techniques...or something i got like 19 pieces of 6x12. hit me up if ya need a sheet or two
  13. you could prolly... but the fretboard might get in the way of ur neck pickup... and u'd have to dump it.
  14. don't the fellows from meshugga play their 8string guitars/
  15. oh.. sorry . 41 x 74 for the actual hum. the 74 extends an additional 6 for the ears all #s are in mm and the depth can vary i guess depending on hum size and if you're gonna direct mount or use a mounting ring. like i said my jackson is 17mm (more for the wings) and it uses a mounting ring. These #s are from an Ibanez schematic i have.
  16. i think the ones on my jackson are 17mm. The ones for the ears..are deeper, but i can't measure.
  17. how much recess is ok? i measured the recess on my jackson (also the floyd i'll be using) its 7mm on bolt side and like 9mm on the fein tuner side. So later on, if i made my neck through/string thru. I'll need a neck angle ...or recess the tailpiece.
  18. again i say. Buy one.... leave feedback "This information is available for FREE @ www.projectguitar.com and various other sites" And everyone that reads his feedback will be like 'oh..i can get it free ....screw him. i won't buy it' and if they don't read feedback..they deserve to get ripped off. But no... Noone listens to me
  19. yeah the floyd will be recessed. So..i dont need an angle?
  20. If I go bolt on + floyd rose, I *DON"T* need a neck angle as long as the fretboard and some of the neck is raised above the body? IE: neck is 25.4mm thick-6of which is fretboard, at the neck/body joint. If I route the pocket 19mm deep, 6.4mm will be "on top" of the body, w/ the floyd. I won't need to make any angles. Yes? I've read through Hiscock's section on neck angles, as well as searched the forum here. But still a little (a lot) confused. If in the future I want to build a neck thru w/ a tailpiece (string thru), i'd have to adjust for some neck angle, right? Or recess the tailpiece into the body?
