my friend actually started on the upright before i convinced him to start learning the bass guitar. he's a damn good musician since he'd already learn allthe theory that went with playing a bass instrument

Basically im doing some research for a friend. he's looking into buying a new amp and would uite like to buy a valve amp since fairlly obviouslly they are a fair bit nicer. he played one of the Peavey transtube series at his local guitar shop and lked the sound of it and so decided to do some research on it. basic question is, what the hell does it do. from what ive read on the Website it sounds as tho its a digital modelling amp but neither me nor him are too sure. so i figured the best thing to do would be to ask the advice of people who know a bit more about this than me also if anybody could be helpful and maybe recommend some other amps that may be good for what he wants thatd be cool. he's really looking for something with a fair bit of versatility inthat it can go from nice clean sound for open chord jangliness up to good solid rock distortion, valve is prefered lol cheers guys

im actually heading into a slipknot phase lol. haing heard pulse of the maggot and duality im noticing how much better their songs sound now that they have rick rubin producing. i seriouslly want to hear the rest of the new album

My Name is Guy but most people refer to me as Johnny (school nicknames can really stick lol) im about 90% of the way through building my first guitar which has been built from parts ive bought from ebay and a few other places. its basically just a custom paint job so nothing to amazing. im planning to build more guitars when i have the time and cash. in truth im much more of an electronics person that a luthier but im hoping to learn ive been playing guitar for about a year and a half now and from what im told by lots of people im pretty good and have a certain degree of natural apptitude for it. my taste in music is broad to the extent of being downright wierd. everything from techno trance through to blues rock and right the way to the noisecore end of things. in reality im an 18 year old student who is currentlly only 2 months away from leaving school and taking a year off before going to do electrical engineering at university (man im an interesting person lol). i play guitar, fiddle with all things electronic and skateboard. thats probablly aboutall you wanna know really JG

i didnt know that Mick used a 7 string. as far as i knew his signature custom was just a black warlock body withwhite binding, 2Pups, selecter and vol and then he had "HATE" inlayed on the fretboard which by the looks of it was ebony. feel free to laugh if im wrong tho lol

i love noise it's my friend i spent 2 hours last week playing with feedback and bending the strings behind the bridge on my TOM to make it scream i really need a sustainer and about half a dozen of the ZVex effects lol

ice one my man. im always prefering FX that make wierd noises to all these standard flangers and phasers etc i shall peruse these at some point espescially the TSA clone. after listening to the soundslips onthe website i can't wait to get the sucka off you and start scaring everybody lol

when you say it didnt work right what do you mean. eg how did it sound or peform different?? mods i can't help you with tho im sure if you look around and find a schematic for it then you can find something onit to mod

last night as i was playing my guitar i noticed that on the high A and D strings (Ordinarilly would be the high G and E strings but i detune) if i play either of them at the first to 4th fret then they sound really dead. ive heard about this happening before but never about how to correct it. can anybody give me some advice on how to get rid of it?? many thanks

since im only gonna have the hard tail it wont be that expensive. warmoth has a 7 string hard tail for 40USD which is a steal for me given current exchange rates lol. incidentlly, while im posting here. can anybody give me a link to a picture of a walnut guitar with a tung oil finish?

lol no im not putting a fuzz factory in. i wouldnt have space for all the knobs lol. the plan is to have all the pickups selectable as per usual, have a master tone control before the effects and then have a mosfet booster circuit with a variable gain control. this would all then go into a master volume control. i was thinking about having a switch to turn the booster on/off but tbh if i had it as a stomp box then since it can do clean and dirty id just leave it on the whole time so theres not much point making it switchable ive got the stereo jack that i need to have the power turned on and off by inserting the cable and so everything should fall together nicelly btw ansil i havnt used the link you gave me yet but i will soon lol, im looking forward to it

really?.......oh *goes and checks all the schematics he looked at* your right as well.......i feel like a right fool now lolol i didnt figure that the signal doesnt get routed through the tone controls. the switch just connects them to the pickups but it still connects them to the lugs for the volume control.i really need to read diagrams properlly in future cheers man JG

ok, basically ive got all the hardware and electronics for my guitar now. its all looking peachy (apart from having to redrill the trem mounting holes but thats not too bad) problem inow have is that i want to change the wiring since im going to be putting some effects inside it and i can't quite figure out the wiring from the 5 way switch. i want to have each of the 3 pickups selectable in the normal strat way (bridge, bridge + middle, middle, middle + neck, neck) and for that to go straight into another pot (which will be used for the FX) what i need to know is which of the tabs from the pickup selector should i solder together to then send to the pot so i have normal switching. the switch i have has 8 tabs all inline. heres a pic all help is much appreciated cheers JG

i have just found out 2 fairlly cool things 1 is that a friend of mine who has picked up the guitar a few months ago is interested in building a guitar. (he has a 2nd hand Gibson, one of the studio versions and its seriouslly beaten up but sounds amazing) whats quite cool about it is he told me a few years ago at his house they chopped down an old walnut tree and that the boards may be big enough for making a guitar body out of. they've been sitting for 3 years so they should be dry now (someone who knows more than me correct me if im wrong) so im tempted to see if i can get a couple of boards of him in return for giving him a hand making his guitar. im fairlly sure that someone said walnutwas a good wood to use tho im gonna have a search throughthe forum in a moment to check second cool thing is that i had a look at the warmoth website yesterday and they do baritone 7 string necks so i reckon that the next project i do might be a big 'un lol

depends on how much youd sell it for. im afraid my budget isnt stretching to much which is why im really looking for broken effects to canibalize. thanks for the offer tho

building Effects into guitars isnt really that difficult. if you bought just the Guts of the Fuzz Factory then building it into the guitar wouldnt be too difficult either however it does have 5 control knobs and finding space for all of them may be a bit tricky

you can either have the Driver in at the neck and then not have another Pup there, or you can get one of the Single coil sized humbuckers around (i can't remember what there is available but lots of the guys here will be able to give recomendations for ya) and have that with the driver

im not really looking for vintage effects. more the second grade type ofthing that your talking about. basic reason is so i can canibalize nice cases, stomp switches and pots lol. ive been tempted by a marshal guvnor 2 on ebay. if i see one for under £20 including P+P then im nabbing it lol

This is mainlly aimed at the english guys since P+P from the US would be too much, but i was wondering if any of you guys have old effects that you didnt want anymore or were'nt working and you wanted to shift. im basically looking for some to either fix up or canibalise for parts and im quite happy to pay you for them if the price is right lol cheers JG
