  1. Actually most LEDs have a current range from about 3 to 30 ma you can run a super bright LED off 5 amps and it will be fine, admitadlly if you have 10 of them then it'll still suck the batteries dry lol
  2. i see i am in good company, Well met fellow Ska Munkey lol
  3. man if your using an LP style switch which is the 3 way toggle then you could actually do something seriouslly funkeh imagine if you will:- switch in the centre things are off switch it one way and the LEDs are blue switch it the other way and they're orange you can get LEDs which are a different colour depending upon which way round they are connected and so i reckon that you could do something like that. if you're interested i can find out the relevant info etc for ya
  4. Best would be a toss up between Less Than Jake at the Astoria or Placebo at Reading festival. worst i would probablly say was Bowling for soup on the same day as placebo lol. no matter how hard i tried i could still hear girl all the bad guys want
  5. go with the fuzz but i would not recomend you try to build a small stone. the PCB wireing for it is a serious bitch and unless you know what you are doing you will either a)get confused or end up with a huge circuit board meaningyou have to rout out alot. i havnt seen the EH fuzz but if its like other fuzz pedals then it should be fairlly small and simple so id just go with that for the moment
  6. Atm im planning on sticking a fuzz face in the strat body that im working on, im basically gonna rout out a cavity just next to the middle Pup on the side of the controls and put it in there. im trying to get hold of a couple concentric pots so that the top wont look so cluttered. ive basically used the fuzz face design off generalguitargadgets but ive designed the circuit board myself to make it a bit smaller
  7. igyou wanted to you probablly could fit something like a holy grail inside ur guitar tho tbh you would be better off choosing an FX pedal that was much smaller. holy grails are pretty large arent they and so youi would ebd up routing out a fair bit of wood to put it in im planning on putting a fuzz face into my current project guitar, try going with a distortion circuit since they are normally much smaller
  8. im planning to have 2 on my strat project. one will be a volume/tone pot for the guitar and the other will be a volume/fuzz controll for the fuzz face im building in otherwise ill either have to have 4 pots or probablly sacrifice one of the volume controlls. 4 pots would just make things look a bit cluttered (given that there are gonna also be a fuzz on/off switch, a pickup selector switch and a kill switch as well as an LED indicator) id like to have the 2 volume controlls since i like being able to play with the volume when i have clean guitar and also id need to balance out the levels for when i have the fuzz switched on and off
  9. anybody know where i might be able to get my hands on some of these. it basically has to be a UK stockist since i dont want to have to pay shipping prices, im on a tight budget here people lol
  10. i think id like to see a tutorial on this. partlly so that i could find a bit more out about using memory chips in circuit boards.
  11. 2 things i was wondering 1 is quite simply how do you go about making or getting chassis for them? second thing is id like to know if there is a half decent program that i could use for designing them? i probablly have enough electronics knowledge to build a decentish amp but i dont wanna have to learn by trial and error lol
  12. Ive spent almost 4 hours this afternoon stripping paint off my guitar body and its still a way to go lol sure is satisfying watching it all come off tho. got a load to do but hopefully i can get that done tomorrow and wednesday. then its onto spraying as soon as ive got the paints man this is fun, i want to make more guitars
  13. Ansil man, out of interest how much knowledge do you have about building and designing tube amps?
  14. the body looks to be pretty good quality wood. after i stripped the coat of black paint off it i used some sand paper to clean it up so i could see the wood underneath and its definatelly not chip board or anything else poor. it may not be high quality but its good enough for a first project. im not really worried too much about it being a cheapish neck. like you said, if it plays well then there aint really much of a problem. this project is basically just for me to learn and just so long as i end up with a playable guitar at the end of it im not complaining
  15. got home on friday and lo and behold there was a large triangular parcel waiting for me. lo and behold it was the body and neck id bought off ebay so needeless to say i was quite chuffed checked it over, neck fits nicelly, scale length is spot on so its all good, the body is just a random strat clone, dont think its a real one but it is alder so there isnt really much difference the neck isnt strat, the logo says Jim Deacon i think, heres a pic its a nice neck, suprisinglly fast and so im not gonna change anything on it, except the headstock which im gonna be sanding the current logo off an refinishing nehu, yesterday (sunday) before g/f came round i decided to get to work stripping at least some of the paint off it before i came back to school. decided to use a paint gun a scraper and a wire brush, all went fairlly well, i took a bit of a chip out of it on the end of the tummy cut by the horn but that'll sand out fine. i also managed to get the scraper i was using stuck in a small crack and widend it a bit tho its in an area im planning ot route out to put the fuzz face into. only problem i have now is that when i was using the paint gun i managed to breathe in the fumes a bit tomuch and so now have a cracking headache lol. just perfect for sitting through lessons with lol ill try to get some pics up once ive fully stripped the body, under the black coat there was a clear coat which i assume was to seal the body. im gonna be taking that off and going back to the bare wood just so i can go about properlly finishing everything. nehu, keep a watch everybody, i hope to have the painting done some time in the next 2 to 3 weeks. things are looking pretty good
  16. imho if you are looking for a pedal thats easy to build and has enough theory behind it to make it interesting then go for either a fuzz face clone or a booster circuit of some sort. the fuzz face has a bit more theory behind it and so its a bit trickier to understand but there are some damn good articles explaining it so you can teach urself
  17. RS would almost certainlly have the chip. its a standard chip made my a lot of companies much like the bog standard 741 op-amp. you may also want to look at the LM380 as well, its basically the same as the 386 except that its a bit more powerful (386 is 0.3 watt amp and the 380 is 1 watt) atm im looking into what piezo speakers i can getover here in the UK, if i find anything useful ill chuck it up here for ya
  18. 1 and 2 are sorta linked the Chip isnt an Op-Amp as such but an LM386, its basically a 0.3 Watt audio amplifier in a chip. they dont need a negetive supply since just so long as they have 0 Volts and +9 Volts they will auto bias so that the output is always sitting in the middle of supply voltage. the capacitor is a decoupling cap to stop the DC signal from getting through to the piezo buzzer. the cap value doesnt matter too much i think but bear in mind that a lower cap value will attenuate the treble less 3) the piezo is just connected to the output of the chip and to ground however where it is actually placed im not sure either 4) dont know about this since id need to find out where the piezo goes 5)the switch is just a normal mini switch that would be connected to the output after the pickup selector tho i think that most other sustainers (sustainiac and fernandez for example) have some wierd switching so that certain pickups are on when you turn the sustainer on hope thats helpful, i may go to my school electronics labs and have a play with this idea at some point lol
  19. does anybodu have any idea where i might be able to get these in the UK?? id seriouslly like to be able to put them in my first project but since im on a tight budget i dont wanna have ot pay shipping costs lol
  20. those are really good. i didnt actually realise that that was all a black ice distortion chip was lol. btw im not too sure how the sustainer thing works. is the little piezo speaker attatched to the back of one of the pickups or is it on a seperate pickup??
  21. well played snork, that looks damn good. how are you doing the lighting? is it just LEDs a battery pack and some resistors or have you got a few other things in there? how many LEDs are you using to light it?
  22. Thats all the black ice distortion thing is??? LOLOLOL as far as i know the way that diodes in feedback loops like that work to make distorion is that when the sine wave that comes out the pickups ( im making a few guesses at peoples knowledge of electronics here tho i figure most people know what a sine wave is) it has a choice of 2 paths to take in the circuit diagram. it can either go around the diodes or through them. now, as a sine wave is a continually changing voltage basically, when it has a lower voltage it isnt acually able to "turn the diode on" and so will go round, however when it reaches a higher voltage it is able to turn the diode on and so will go through that part of the circuit. this means that there will be a voltage across the diode and it is this voltage lost that "flattens out" the top of the sine wave and creates the distortion so from this i reckon that if you were going to make one of these to work with weaker pups then you would want diodes with a much lower voltage turn on point. ill have a look and see what i can find in the catalogues ive got on my comp for you guys i hope this explains things a bit, if anybody's confused just ask and ill draw some pictures and try to give a better explanation btw Soapbarstrat, if you have a broken tube screamer that you dont want then im quite happy to give it a home i reckon a bit of modding and i could give it some more balls lol
  23. Drop C all the way. im a system fiend so i dropped it down and chucked some Ernie ball power slinkies on there lol. tho actually atm its not in dropped tuning and is just sitting in D, needed to get back to playing power chords again lol
  24. looking round google i found this site which appears to be a bill lawrence related forum board thing. there seem to be a number of people talking about the Q filter that you want to know about so either have a look around there or just ask http://pub123.ezboard.com/fguitarsbyfenderfrm8?page=2
