  1. Good timing on this topic......I just received an Alvarez RC20SC and it has a radiused board. I'd guess it's 12" but that is only a guess. The "hump" on the board as it leaves the body is unfortunately too common an acoustics. I see it all the time. Most of the time it is not a big deal as long as it doesn't interfere with keeping the action height you want and it doesn't cause buzzing. I just sent back my Michael Kelly bass because it was buzzing at the hump and was getting worse by the day. My bass was 6 months old. Off topic: MK's customer service was Excellent. They had a new bass to me the day after I shipped mine back!! I can handle that kind of warranty service. I forgot to add that if you are re-radiusing the board you will get rid of that hump (or most of it depending on how bad it is) as you sand it down to the radius.
  2. That redwood showed up and was actually still wet!! I took it out of the box and let it dry out and it is purdy! Smells good too....it's like having a cedar chest in my kitchen. Question: Is it better to let it dry as a solid block or should I get it bookmatched and let it dry as thinner pieces? I'm not looking to use it for at least another year and I want to make sure it is dried correctly. I also don't want it to check or split on me. It is one Beautiful hunk of wood and I'd hate to screw it up.
  3. I do that stuff all the time The worst is putting a 99 cent BUY NOW when you meant to do a starting bid of 99 cents
  4. Gotta love that Ampeg sound! SVT3-PRO player here
  5. Great stuff Derek!! Congrats!!! BTW you may want to correct this in your listing:
  6. Hey, your first post and you probably already ticked off half the people here!! What a great start.......... BTW where is YOUR guitar????
  7. You will get no answer to this dilemma here. We discuss it about every two months and there are those that say loosen and those that say don't. Make up your own mind and do it how you please. BTW, I loosen the strings and pack around the headstock and body with paper or bubble wrap so there is no room for it to "bounce" in the case. Do I have experience? I ship 10-15 guitars a day. My other suggestion is to avoid UPS.....They break a lot of stuff then they refuse to pay insurance claims. Do I have experience with them?.......several thousand $$$ in unpaid claims that I had to reimburse customers for out of my pocket. Whatever you decide good luck.
  8. Understood....bad choice of words on my part. I understand it was constructive, brutally honest criticism, most people can't handle that and would have reacted totally differently than Derek did. I'm not even sure how I would have reacted! I would like to think it was like that but one never knows until they hear it I guess.
  9. Wow....another tough month Ragas and Matt...you have a great knack for design and I'm sure you are both going to go somewhere with that. toddler68...holy crap man, that carve is sweet!! The longer I looked at it the more detail I saw and that finish is perfect. Great work!! rhoads...great original style and touch to a classic shape. I would have never thought headless when I thought tele. My opinions for what they're worth. Oh, and I voted for.........
  10. I gotta say Derek....I was impressed with you before, but after this thread I have a new respect for you as a person and businessman. Not just anyone would have taken that slam and answered it so well. It says a lot more about you than the 500+ feedbacks on eBay ever could.
  11. That wood gave me a little "wood" Nice....and definitely worth the wait!
  12. and you're ripping it apart I know, I know, it's yours to do with as you please......sorry I brought it up.
  13. OK, it was my browser (yes, I was still in the 90's and using IE) My IE wasn't accepting Shockwave (or it wasn't recognizing it). I was having all kinds of problems viewing sites so i killed it and am using NN8 now. I tried FireFox a few months back but didn't like it but the new Navigator seems OK. ON TOPIC (finally).......I like it. Nice clean bass line in "Inside Out". I'll listen to the rest a few times more but so far it's all good!
  14. Moved to correct forum...... If you consider buying on credit the same I'd have to say yes. My Ampeg rig was purchased as a zero down, zero interest and 5 payments deal. Sure makes it easier to move into the rig you want.
  15. Email them pics here Drak.....I'll host them for you!!! We need us some PICS brother!!!
  16. Another vote for Bart's. If you like Big Bottoms my girls got 'em.....oops! I mean Bart's has that sound.....IMO the best for the $$$
  17. Makes sense to me! One thing I have wondered about on my Cirrus is they used walnut for the body and then a thin walnut top..... Walnut is walnut isn't it? It's not like there is a ton of figure in the top but it does have a bit more "flavor" than the back. Or is the figured walnut just more expensive so they get the most out of it by using the figure only on top - that would make sense to me.
  18. ^^^ Thanks for that info Drak. I have always lusted after a Cirrus bass with the flamed redwood top. Since I already have the walnut Cirrus my chances of having the redwood also are slim so I thought I'd do the next best thing and use this for a home brew bass. I'll be tapping the knowledge base here when it's dry enough to use....I want that flame to POP!! I didn't realize it was so soft. I guess I never paid attention to redwood on decks and figured since they used it for decks it must be fairly hard. My deck is composite because I'm lazy and don't want to treat it every year or two
  19. Nice wood...... I got some wood this week too........REDwood Redwood Looks like it will be sitting a while until it's dry but I have time to get my maple used up.
  20. You finally have mail......I was a little busy yesterday. I agree with that also! Here in "Polka Country" we see lots of 'dem 'dar tuba guys doncha know!! Now I'm thirsty for a good German beer
  21. OK.....my computer has issues. I went there and heard nothing (?) The box to the right of your pic is blank (?) and I found nowhere to link to tunes. I am sure my computer is going dorky here or did I miss something on your page?
  22. That I like! I would definitely go with that design over the other one. Nice work!
