  1. OLP guitars use Elm in thier Natural finished Instruments and Basswood for thier Painted ones. Just a FYI, now I dont know if thier instruments are worth a crap or not, but I just noticed it the other day and thought Id share that Elm is used in some instruments. Jeremy

  3. Thanks for the advice and help, I ended up passing on the bass after all, but thanks anyways J
  4. First off, I have been offered a wonderful deal on a OLP Music Man Styled Bass guitar, its a nice one too, in great shape, with a nice Maple neck. Ok, this guy had wanted a fretless so he had pulled the frets from the guitar, he did a good job, only at the second fret has a slight indentation on the maple where he dug in a little too deep with the pliers, he never filled the fret lines so they are just open, it sounds good too just the way it is but I would like to do several things with the neck if I end up getting it. He only wants a Hundred Bucks for it as is so Im really thinking about. I have several ideas, I might just replace the frets, but Im also thinking of finishing his neck conversion. Ok, if I do finish the conversion, heres my ideals on the conversion. One, its a maple capped board, steam or heat up the glue and take the board off completely and replace with a piece of rosewood or ebony (or other suggestions on wood I would need to learn how to radius it etc... but that is something I would like to learn, ok Two, leave the orginal board and fill the lines, I was thinking what about some darkwood sawdust and some regular glue like elmers, or something along those lines, would that work, sort of like how the vine inlays are done on a maple board, or somekind of epoxy or other filler, any suggestions you have would be appreciated, and Third, inserting thin dark wood strips, and sanding them to match the radius, anyways, those are some of the ideals I had, any other suggestions on materials or techniques would be appreciated, or this could be a good oppurtunity to learn how to install frets many ideals, what do you guys think, thanks in advance jeremy
  5. Whats up Sam, glad you found the site, you can see where I hang out sometimes when Im not at work Muhahahahahahaha anyways, everyone this is Sam, I work with him. Be nice hehehe just kidding, Sam, get with Brian or Jehle, they know much more about the finishing work than I do, and good luck. Jeremy

  9. Mr Jones, what do you mean "spam" What i see is Pen One Five!!!!!!!!!!!!! Hehehehehehe just kidding, I do see what they were trying to do.
  10. Im going to add a couple thoughts here, sometimes the pickup height or the string setup is a big factor, if the pickups are too close to strings it can cause a myriad of problems, also at very high volumes, sometimes the amp cabinet can rattle bad, trust me i know and that makes it very annoying, cheap amp cabinets rattle badly, i like fender and all but at least 2 of the amps that i have had had cheap cabinet construction, and the metal chassis of the amps electronics rattled badly at higher volumes, also, the strings setup, if theres any fret buzz, it can be annoying amplified, at least I know when I have had some fret buzz in the past with the amp cranked up it was noticeable, then I worked on the setup and the amp was much more even tempered sounding, i thought it was the amp at first and realized later the setup of the strings helped tremendously, at least those are some of the expereinces that i have had with wacky sound problems and yea cheap pickups are also very very Guilty of feedback, if this is a strat i would suggest the noiseless pickups, very good pickups but not cheap. for a gibsonish or humbucker, i would either get with brian and get some good di marzios or slap some seymour duncans in it, cant go wrong with either of those pickups at all, or rio grandes, i got a set of those in my strat and they are bad assed!!!!!! good luck to ya jeremy
  11. just recently i was asked by some people i work with if i would consider joining thier band playing bass, since i have a bass and just bought that amp they thought i could help em out since they dont have a bass player, yea i was like sure, im still not all that great on my bass playing techniques but i can fumble around with it and actually we are not sounding that bad, now for a band name, i suggested (pockets of lint) but they didnt really like that one, other than that, i couldnt come up with anything else catchy what u think of that jeremy
  12. i had told brian that my dsl would be getting dropped and i would be switching to time warner cable modem, umm it took those idiots forever, (still scratching my head wondering why i switched) anyways you get what you pay for, i guess i should have known but just trying to save a few bucks, but just announcing im back online again, looking forward to crusing through all the great info i missed, everyone have a wonderful day Jeremy
  13. hmm, im sure thats one good thing fender has about setting up shop in mexico, i was there once, hot as .... well I was in the same town just outside the factory, and i live in tx just north so its usually hot hot hot, but the last few days have been brrrr!!!! and yea, what ever you do, never ever ever spray any paint around a heater while its on, or your orange peels gonna turn into bubbling paint right off the wood, and god knows what else, maybe you should wait it out for warm weather, good luck j
  14. first off, great work on the logo, nice job, id wait at least a month before i started to try it out, but thats me, others might disagree and with the force at your side, muwhahahahahahaha your like able to let your fingers fly on the fretboard, hehehehe, or maybe the thing will just play itself while your sitting across the room humming a song in your head hehehe, ok i once was a big starwars nut, hehe, but yea wait a month for the finish to harden up good luck j
  15. not for guitar work, but in the past i have used a real good blue colored tape when i was painting things like model kits and some spot jobs on bondo with the car, hell i dont remember who made it but it was better than that typical tan colored stuff, i think hes right it was 3m, i got it from the automotive section of walmart if i remember right, anyways, you might keep your eye out for that, good luck j
  16. nah he said the same thing, would be nice to have, but no money right now, oh well thanks anyways for giving us a shot at it first
  17. dude, id love to get ahold of it, i have never ever owned a ibanez anything, but i probably shouldn't, but i know someone who might be interested, as soon as i get ahold of him i can let you know and if he is ill see if you still have it, what do u guesstimate shipping would be on it? and send a few pics to jeremy_wills@hotmail.com thanks j
  18. Umm, you forgot the box for the Village Idiot, thats me, so I voted for Hobbiest, I been tinkering with junk for years and been playing for hell i guess its about 10 years now since i first picked up my first guitar ever, hmm, its only been that long, but im only 23 jeremy
  19. thanks for the reference soapbar, but i think hes trying to build a jaguar wich my body would do him no good, but as for the jaguar body being made out of basswood, yes, your right, he had some old school originals outta good ol alder and then he had some of the japanese reissues with the basswood, your wanting to build one of his original ones with the bound neck and all, kurt added humbuckers if i remember right to some of his jaguars, just like gavin rossdale of bush did to some of his, so im not sure wich exact guitar your after, but if your interested in building a jaguar and it dont have to be exactly like kurts, check this auction out, and take care, jeremy http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...&category=33039
  20. I never heard of it, but ill take your word for it, thanks dude jeremy
  21. a FYI http://www.torresengineering.com this is where i got my 1meg pots and my custom wiring kit for my strat and the rio grande pickups, he also sells hand made tube amps, and other neat guitar electronics stuff, this would be my suggestion if your wanting to make some customizations, and I think they have pearl topped dome knobs, id have to browse the site again, but i dont know what kinda price your considering cheap or not? I can just tell you they have been real nice to work with and so far have not screwed me, good luck. Jeremy
  22. its kinda scary that you had to hook up with fender just to retain your jackson status but i guess that should help buisness, congrats, say once your all set up and all i might be interested in a few fender things, right now its on the backburner, but we shall see, take care, and by the way i ended up getting the hartke bass amp after all, so sorry about the hiwatt amp thing, best of luck with your shop, one tiny thing, since the amp thing didn't work out, got any wah pedals, or if you run across any soon, lemme know, its something I have wanted to have around to play hendrix/etc and just like the Bass Amp, never have gotten around to picking one up, and I had promised you about the amp so maybe we can work something out with a wah pedal if you got any, thanks in advance scott. jeremy
  23. its all good, we all friends and no worries and i guess it wont matter wich trem block he ends up using, hell to me a blocks a block, as long as it fits comftorably, who cares, i still cant even hear the supposedly difference between fingerboards, it all sounds relatively the same to me have a nice day all
  24. wow, lets all calm down and be friends, ok there, i hope his question has been answered, im sure the poor fellow got more info than he anticipated, but thank you to everyones opinions, peace to all and ill say it again, pure brass is rather soft, brass with alloys like aluminum give it more stregth without compromising much of the characteristics in brass jeremy
  25. i would suspect a aluminum brass block would be a more mellow or jazzier tone, good for a blues player and a steel block would be more brash, and better for a metal player, i dunno, i know my blocks made of stainless steel and my strat is tough to comment on, my pickups and extra goodies under the guard really make it sound more like a gibsonish guitar so i cant comment on the block much, i utilize a lot of distortion and it sustains better than most strats i have played, i know hes right about that aluminum bronze, brass is a softy and would be chewed up, especially if your a steve vai or joe satraiani type thats all whammy bar happy I know the low end squiers and fenders (i.e. made in mex) guitars utilize some cheap mystery metal, probably a alloy of some sorts, and the usa made and the upper end japanese ones were utilizing stainless steel blocks, just a fyi
