  1. ah, of course, good idea........ but i live in london, so time difference will be a pain. whats the time difference in Pentaluma/ California compared to GMT?
  2. *bump* no-one knows anything about it...? Roman
  3. well, i just put down a £100 deposit on an old Mesa/boogie head which pretty much wipes the floot with ANY amp i've played so far (marshall jcm800/900 / tsl/ dsl. peavey xxx/ jsx / 5150, newer mesa dual rec, triple rec, single rec, heartbreaker, list goes on..) its an '86 DC-10 (stands for dual caliber) which is an amazingly versatile and just great amp. looks exactly like a Mark IV model but can be very very brutal, can do amazing warm cleans with great reverb, and i can get down Vai's or Petrucci's tone down pretty much perfectly!! amazing amp, but there seeems to be precious little about it on the web... all i found was this manual, 4 reviews, one photo and that John Petrucci (Dream Theater) and Jim Root (Slipknot) used this model... http://www.mesaboogie.com/manuals/Dual%20Cal%20DC-10.pdf http://www.harmony-central.com/Guitar/Data...10_Head-01.html but nothing else, and mesa website has nothing on it.... so wondering if you guys had any experiences / know anything about either the Dual Caliber series or the head itself?? it utterly rocks though! Roman
  4. not sure John Petrucci would agree with you buddy http://johnpetrucci.com/equipment1.html
  5. awesome amp drak!! i definetely do need to sell the WH1 as i've just fallen for a Mesa Boogie DC-10 head, which is one of those things i NEED...lol i'm looking for £280ish for the whammy, but i'll sell it to someone from PG for £250 which is basically what i paid for it, so if you want it JohhnyG, send me a pm
  6. heh, i did a LOT of thinking, and realised the philosophy i hold for amps is definetely the wrong thing for a rack setup! thank you for making me realising that!! what i'm gonna do now (as i;m not 100% with my tone) is sell everything off to fund ENGL savage special edition, so i'm gonna have my mesa 50/50, pre-amp and even my wh1 for sale (this one really hurts to sell...... but i want the ENGL badly enough). i'll be sure to post on here when i do put it up.... but saying it now, as its in context with what you guys are saying, and if you (Drak) - or anyone else want the power amp / pre-amp / rack / wh1, let me know and i'll probably sell it directly to you without any ebay no-sense....... best of luck to Drak though, enjoy building your setup! Roman
  7. what is this, are you trying to decide whether dimebag is worthy of being made a saint by the catholic church? his religion was heavy f**ing metal, and damn did he preach that well! he drank a lot alright, in fact he was known for drinking more than an average man could and still going out on stage and playing his solos note for note.... but why the hell should that matter...... we're honouring him for what he did. HIS MUSIC. this isnt a case of mother theresa, now is it? if you look at Wolfgang Mozart's life, many sources will tel you he was an annoying fool who was very immature (hence Salieri's jealousy at mozat's immense talent...) and drank a lot. is that ever mentioned? no. does anyone care? no. his music is something that will live forever. and so will dimebag's. its too late to judge his character now - judge his music decide your attitude towards him from that.
  8. i'm interested in the vox wah. can i have a picture please, and how much would shipping to London, UK be (if you dont mind posting it?). my email is roman_sub@hotmail.com do you accept paypal? Roman
  9. i guess my understanding of the term 'digital pre-amp' is slightly different / wrong. i know ENGL pre-amps have midi switching, but are analogue as they have actual different EQ sections with pots, for like 4 channels. stuff like ADA MP-1, triaxis and JMP-1 i consider to be digital as many aspects, from EQ to memory are digitized, and you do get like 100 PATCHES as opposed to a limited number of channels. and whenever i played on such amps, i couldnt get tones as good as say from my pre-amp or an 4 channel ENGL pre-amp my friend has; but then again it may be the case of ear heearing what the brain tells it to, if that makes sense. 3 channels? well i cant think of someone like petrucci using more than 4 actual AMP channels during a whole gig, because he'd have one lead, one rhythm, one clean and one perhaps low gain lead channels, or something... then you of course add effects, and voila, you get heavy rhythm + phaser etc etc... thats what i tried to say. anyway, this is off point, i just wanted to clarify myself and not look like an idiot... just wondering Drak, what do you mean by 1/2 rack? do you mean like a half sized in relation to a big 22U or whatever rack cabinet thing? how many U's of space will you be looking to have? for a good power amp second hand, its about $450.... peavey power amps are going real cheap and are pretty cool if you want a 'neutral' power amp that doesnt 'color' the tone in the same that say a Mesa/boogie will... also the other option is this.... http://www.voodoolab.com/gcsystem.html using both the footswitch and the 1U switcher you could control both pre-amps through a single board, being able to switch patches across amps, which is theoretically simpler to use than running two pre-amps in parallel... though i'm pretty sure this is way more expensive. the advantage of this particular switcher is that it control ANYTHING analogue or midi....
  10. thats great saber..... very delicate and beautiful, i could really feel your playing.
  11. right ok, thanks man! i've gone a little rusty with all my guitar knowledge lately... too much time spent playing
  12. are you sure about matt belamy using a digitech? i was sure he just had a thermostat (or whatever its called..) built into his guitars, i even read it on the website of the guitar who built his guitars... he uses midi pickups, but to my knowledge there is no 'midi' strip, just the thing that detects hand 'heat' and creates the corresponding pitch without the whammy, to my knowledge at least...
  13. mesa are the $hit.... owned only maybe by soldano, but are much more affordable!
  14. i paid around $400 for the WH1 and its well worth it! tracking is second to none on the whammy mode, 1 and 2 octave plus is great fun, and can be actually put into good use in playing, more so if you play instrumental guitar orientated stuff... like listen to satch's cool #9! the stuff you can do with the harmony section, like when it mixes your 'dry signal' and then adds 1 octave below signal is really cool, basically guitar and bass playing together! of course with the drop 1 octave you can do pretty convincing bass sounds, which is cool too! all harmonic intervals are covered, and the tracking is very good with single notes, but chords 'confuse' it there's also the 'detune' mode which mixes dry signal with signal tahts been altered by a few cent.... = chorus like effect, pretty neat too. my only negatives about it are that a) it has a 'wall wart' adapter whammy mode sounds better put before pre-amp distortion, and harmony mode sounds like proper harmony AFTER pre-amp section as opposed to just being like 'double stops'... so its like a bit of choice.. you can still have proper harmonies with 'clean' channel and use the whammy, as thats what its best for IMO... and just get the eventide for 'intelligent' harmonies after the pre-amp how much would you use it? hmmm, i think its fair to compare it to a floyd rose. you love it or hate it, and even if you love it you only use it as much... but when you do.... EDIT: johnnyG, you've hit the nail on the head in that thread. the actual reason for it all is the chip that specially written for digitech by a specialist software company... but for whatever reasons the contact was torn up and digitech put their own COPIES of the original chip on wh2, wh3 and wh4...
  15. i'd just like to add my thoughts to this thread.... i personally prefer non-digital rack amplifier section. that is to say i do not personally think midi pre-amps sound great, even the tube ones such as the mesa triaxis.... i stick by the analogue tube pre-amps for racks. while yes, a midi pre-amp offers you more options for sound you could hope to ever use... well, are you actually gonna use more than 3 of them? my pre-amp gives me 3 channels which i find enough to cover classic rock, shred, death metal, jazz and prog with a little eq tweaking.... there's something about all those digital pre-amp that doesnt sound as natural, to my ear anyway.. secondly, i dont think 'rack rig' doesnt always mean a fridge sized installation producing the most processed tone ever running through 25 digital units! i prefer rack rigs as it means i can get decent digital delay and reverb units mounted as part of my rig (currently saving up for those!) and have some effects without having a battlefield for a pedal board, and of course the fact that i can match a pre-amp section to a power amp section of my choice.. also as far as power amps go, mesa is the way to go IMO. no problems (unlike marshalls...), super clear tone (especially with GT 6L6 Classic tubes!) that lets you have as much gain as you like. my fifty/fifty can be heard 20 metres outside my house when both channels are on 6... and with the 'cut power' mode i can practice with a great saturated tone with my old folks asleep next door! the relative simplicity of my rig means great natural clarity, which even my friend who swears by pre-DSL marshalls admits to hearing! the guys covered pretty much everything else, so i hope is of some use! and btw this is my rig, just awaiting reverb and digital delay units - Digitech WH1 - modified wah - Metalhead Electronics 'elan II' pre-amp (5 12ax7's! ) - Mesa 50/50 - 4x12 cab with Celestions (great speakers IMO too!)
  16. r.i.p. dimebag indeed that's some great photos, metal matt, i'm just wondering which amps are these? - i can't make out what it says on the logo: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v488/ZAD..._jpgdimebag.jpg
  17. 7 string Ibanez V77 and V77MK III pickups added to listing. i'll have a look into what you got Rob cheers guys! Roman
  18. hey guys, i'm trying to raise some money thru excess parts.. http://search.ebay.co.uk/_W0QQgotopageZ1QQ...osortpropertyZ1 in short, 2 pickup sets (h-s-s that can be s-s-s), one (h-h), one dimarzio pickup, OFR nut, kahler nut, neck bolts + washers, OFR mounting studs, tab book.... shipping worldwide Roman
  19. well, UK ibanez distributors are pretty awful to deal with. not only do you get to wait for months, but also they charge extortionate rates. the UV neck would be cheaper.... and man, i HAVE been looking on ebay for them for about 3 months now, this is the THIRD seven string ibanez neck i've seen in all that time. i'm not gonna wait much more..... besides, IMO the UV necks just look so sweet and i'm gonna get green pickups and knobs to match. TBH it doesnt look too bad, i've had much worse (routing out a floyd cavity with a hammer and a chizel, anyone?) as far as building one, i'm not committed enough. i realised though i have a fascination to mod guitars to crazy extents, it always just ends up to be to improve the playing experience... i am not a builder by nature... i'm kinda surprised by the general response so far, to me it seems like a fairly small project... or maybe i've just attached myself too much to the idea of having a UV neck.... either way, i'll be sure to consider your suggestions, but at the moment i'm pretty much set on that UV neck. i'll post more whenever i have something new to ask / to show.
  20. do you still have the gotoh black tuners available?
  21. up for sale are a fingerboard and a truss rod from a broken neck. previous owner had a rock and roll stage moment... due to the nature of the break, the fingerboard is completely undamaged. some fretwear, but nothing a fret dress cant sort out, plenty of fret left. i just wonna sell the fingerboard, and chuck in the truss rod, however can sell both and either, if desired. i had one offer of £30 ($50) for both but the dude will not have the money for a month and, so with his agreement, i'm offering it to others. bear in mind, i live in London UK.... here are the pics: http://fullservesite.com/streamline/DSCF0001.JPG http://fullservesite.com/streamline/DSCF0002.JPG Roman
  22. interested in neck and tuners and nut...
  23. you havent made it clear whether some of the parts you have are for 7 strings... i'm looking for the following: -i may be interested in the gotoh tuner set, but i only need 1 really, so any ideas, other than the entire set? i need a black set.. -i need a 7 string nut (for a UV neck) -also looking for 'interesting' coloured knobs / control switch tip (green / red / yellow) [this is for a ibanez rg] sorry if i missed out some of the details you wrote but i'm having trouble staying awake currently Roman
  24. I see Ibanez AANJ 7 string neck popping up on ebay, so once in a while. I know there are some pics on the net from some Italian company whom have done couple of non-AANJ to AANJ. They changed body and neck. It looked rather good. Have to dig up URL. i'd really really appreciate that. other than that, do you guys have any ideas / suggestions regarding my idea, with gluing part of the old joint and then using bolts to strengthen it? Roman
