  1. thats a nice body (i wish i was playing with stuff like that at 15). Make sure that the amber you plan to sand back is very concentrated otherwise you may not even notice it. if you could get some brown that would help just a few drops in the amber to darken it. Ive found that brown loks better then black in my opinion.it loks more natural, but thats all preference and it also depends on the project .
  2. a quick thing to try is lowering the bridge pickup and raising the neck pickup. That should equal them out a little bit. If that doesnt work you might beable to wire in a resistoron the hot lead of the pickup, but some of the more electronic savy ppl like ansil may have some better ideas.
  3. lol i actually found a pretty efective way to relic a neck by accident. i love the feel of a bare neck rubbed down with a few coats of a tung/poly/naptha concotion, and to get the right feel i end up finnishing it off wet sanding with my concoction an extra fine synthetic steel wool pad. over time these pads get quite gummed up with all the oils etc well one time i had a freind who asked me to relic a guitar for him and i found that these pads worked perfectly. It takes a while to get threough heavierw finnishes but if you start ti off with a heview grit pad/paper adn finnish it up with a oily dirty pad it looks great. i guess the extra fine grit makes it look alot more faded as opposed to the hardlines you get with sandpaper. plus the oils etc get rubbed in so your end result is a smoth old lookin neck.
  4. more like the second one ..i was hoping to find direct replacement for the current cover so the same rectangle shape etc
  5. Ya thasts what I thought. I was just hoping somone around here had maybe seen them somewhere or even knew some one who made them
  6. Ive been trying to find chrome pickup covers for J bass style pickups but apparently noone seems to make them. The only thingi can find on google are the chrome plates that go over picups. Does anyone have an idea if there is such a thing?
  7. lol oh ya durr just got in from work but thats what I'll do then. this is a quick photoshoped idea of what im goin for, obviously the figure doesnt have to be the pronounced http://www.deviantart.com/view/23047358/
  8. thanks maiden upon a closer inspection i think i could pull off a 1/8 top without much routing the neck seems to sit a lil bit more above the boddy the usual so addig a 1/8th top wouldnt be too bad. Any opinions on a cheap place to get one im not looking for AAAAA figure just enough to be noticeable.
  9. hmmm well i was talking more along the lines of removing the finnish on the top of the bass and applying the veneer to that. I wanted toi use a venneer to make it easier to bend over the arm relief.
  10. I am also using wire from old computer power supplies. I actually just added a 4 ohm switch to my cab last night using some of that wire and ive had no issues.
  11. thanks alot i knew it was some k word but i could remember exactly what
  12. i know it gets asked all the time but wats the name (or a link if anyones friendly enuff) of that online guitar design program? i havent used it in forever and i lost the link to it. i tryed searching the forum and google but nothing showed up.
  13. I recently picked up a squire jazz bass for my girlfreind. I plan to add a flamed maple veneer and inlaying a clover on the he4adstock. What I'm wondering is if it is neccessary for my to strip the paint off the entire guitar or if i can simply trip the paint off the front adn some of the sides sand flush and then just use the prior finnish as a base coat? I plan to do a burst so if i scuffed up the old finnish that was left andsanded it flush and smooth noone would be able to tell. This is just an idea if anyone with more experience could give me reason not to do this im all ears.
  14. ill be getting the schematic for a pignose amp in the mail in a coupel days id be glad to give you that wen i get it...in my opinon its one of the best sounding tiny amps ive heard, and is really basic
  15. i love EVH style paintjobs Ive been working on a RRV, with a 5150 inspired paintjob, forever. By the way AlGee Eater i really like the inverted-color pickguard....i had actualy been thinking about doing that on another guitar. Pic 1 Pic 2 the begginning
  16. I modified my LP to have 3 humbuckers and i love the sounds i get with 3 volumes and a master tone i get a good mix and if i want i can turn the voluem all the way down on the middle so i have a normal setup. To me it seems a lot fuller sounding especially wen its about half middle with a full bridge bu then again its all personall preference here. And if set up correctly it wont get in the way
  17. generally the screws are closest to the bridge on the bridge pickup an closest to the neck on the enckpickup, but thers no real rule to it
  18. depnds on how much you want to spend...i love bill lawrence pickups, ive heard good things about kent amstrongs stuff....depends on wat sound qualities your lookin for. For versatility in sound a stacked humbucker might do the trick (lots of diffrent sounds there)
  19. doesnt look bad for 60 if all the ahrdware was included....depending on wat the tuners and headstock are liek may sway my opinion tho but so far looks pretty good
  20. would you consider sselling just the head unit and if so how much?
  21. i have a bluesbreaker overdrive and i love it.....with my tube amps, but on SS it sucks as will most OD pedals overdriving a SS amp just sounds bad...I d say get a multi effect or modeler that usually sounds better on SS amps then overdrive IMO.
  22. its technically possible but for the amount of money adn effort youd put into it youd be better off selling your amp and saving up for sometihng better
  23. i ersonally liek the guitar and its outrageous shape.....i can easily picture you playin that with some crazy funk fusion type band, but i love crazy design that are ridiculous so maybe im a bit biased
  24. the mettalic brown sounds very interesting.......A light blue color might lok nice...maybe with a flamed maple veneer lmao maybe an EVH paint job! but then again i tihnk those look good on any weird shaped guitar/bass
  25. i second the 59/L500 setup...i promote BL wenever possible i tihnk they are some of the nicest pickups around plus they are priced very very well
