  1. wen rolling back thwe volume the 500XL remains bright adn clear until the voluem is at 0, but. Also as the volume is decreases a little bit of the treble is taken off and it gets a bit of a subtle muffed sound but in a good way I think it has a nice bluesy sound to it
  2. I have a BL l500XL in my rhoads at the bridge adn i think its the best pickup ever, but bear in mind there is not alot of low end with this pickup but its screams like a banshee and is one of the clearest most articulate pickusp ive ever heard. Now ive used this setup through my cappy zoom pedal adn peavey bandit adn with a few tweaks to you effects and amp you can get a low sound and it will retain clarity, so if you cant tell im suggest the Bill Lawrence pickup
  3. this idea is already around its called coil splitting .....you can do it with any 4-wire humbucker and its really simple www.guitarelectronics.com will have schematics for many diffrent ways in wich you can achieve this
  4. Where in mass are you? Im always interested in gathering parts for projects
  5. Its going to have a 3 way toggle switch that wiill select between the neck adn bridge pickups liek a normal LP, all of the potss will be push pull, one of them will de/activate the middle pickup, adn then the other three will split a humbucker each. This is why im thinking of having 3 tones and a master volume. The toggle and one pot will give me many variations in pickup combinations and then i will be able to control each pickups tone.
  6. I will probably be getting a LP in the near future, It will have 3 humbuckers and be rewired for coil splitting etc. Now I'm drawing up tthe schematic adn i am wondering what seems better 3 humbuckers with each coil independently splittable with 3 tone pots and a master volume or 3 humbuckers with each coil independently splittable with 3 volume pots and a master tone? Im thinking about going for 3 tone and master volume, but I just want to see what other ideas ppl might have
  7. I recently have been looking at my old first guitar and started thinkin that i could probably convert it from a stoptailbridge peice, liek on the LP Jrs and PRS guitars, to a string through Tune-o-matic bridge. Its a Slammer by Hamer SP1F-CS. http://www.hamerguitars.com/img/pdf/slammer2003.pdf its on the 3rd page and is the cherry sunburst. What exactly do i have to do for the string holes and ferruls? I was thinkin all it would require is drilling 6 holes with a drill press then installing the ferruls. How do the ferruls go in are they just tapped in with a little glue? Also since i will be drilling through an existing finnish are there any things i can do to make sure the edges of the holes are clean? The posts for the TOM will screw into the inserts that are there for the bridge/tail peice.
  8. i second the request for this to be stickied i was lookin for it earlier and didnt know it had made it to the 3rd page
  9. I just bought a jackson and it has a lawrence L-500 (i think XL) and it is awesome theres not alot of low end but it screams...it has kind of a EVH sound. I deefintiely will threows lawrences in my next guitar
  10. lol now that i look back on it that was proly a really simple thing to figure out since i already knew that the INF pickups were created by dimarzio and i could easily have loked up the color code....but ya thanks to everyone that helped
  11. ill try that out then....the only thing was that on the rgt 42 diagram it connects totally diffrndtly to the switch and on the bridge pickup the black and white wires ae connected but what you say about the bluw replacing thwe green may make some sense so ill try thzt
  12. sorry that wasnt really any help, the inifinitys in my guitar are 4 wire theres a red, white, blue, black and bare wire.
  13. IM having a really hard time finding the color code for the Ibanez INF (infinity) 1 and 2 pickups. The Ibanez website has wiring diagrams by guitar and when I click on my guitar (RGT 42) the diagram is wrong. It lists the pickups as Powersound wich they arent and the wiring is not the same as in mine, and in fine print it says that they are not responsiblie for the correctness of the diagrams. Now im tryinto put a new bridge pickup in and i want to kep the same wirng configurationbut i cant figure out wich each wire is to so does anyone here have any ideas to accurately figure this out?
  14. I was wandering what are the advantages adn disadvantages of each bridge.... ive been lookin into replacing the crap one on my RG as its well crap, so i was just tryin to get as much info on it as i possibly can. The Floyd Rose ssite really doenst have any info on their diffrences. I notice that the one on my RG looks more liek the Pro so it may be the only one i can fit on there but thats what im asking? What Floyd should i get to replace the crappy licensed Floyd on my RG?
  15. yes its possible but its not always that easy to find a peice of wood that is that big......plus from what i hear its actually stronger with a 2 peice body
  16. ok im on ebay looking for a seymour duncan pearly gates, and i have a couple of questions. firstly i know that most ppl put then at the bridge but on the website they have samples of it in the neck, now i assumed that it is the same exact model but i want to double check if there are diffrent version for the bridge and neck. another thing i am wondering is is there a diffrence between a pearly gates and a pearly gates "plus" that comes out of the fender fat strats?
  17. its all a personall prefernce thing. i personally love the look of oil on wood it makes the guitar look more alive but then again a mirror finnish of a really nice quilt looks great too. now when i make a guitar for myslef i ould msot likely do a n oil finnish because i liek the look and its easy to use and it sounds nice, but someone else might liek the look of a guitar done all up liek a piece of and this guitar can sti ll sound great ......so in summationplay what you want, some ppl want a guitar thats well rounded adn some ppl wanta tone machine it all opinion
  18. ive bene thinking abotu thiis for a while and say you had a fingerboard made of something strong liek ebony, and then scalloped the entire neck. would this work. i know that the crest of the scallops might wear away quickly so maybe soaking the fingerbaord in ca glue or sometihng like that
  19. this si really nice....lately ive been thinking abotu making a body out of paduak just for its color and after lookin on ebay it seems to be relatively cheap, and i was also considering an oil finnish for its ease of application and tru-oil was was i planed on using casue i read that it was pretty durable, so it looks liek youve sold me on the idea with this beauty
  20. the torres kits are the saga kits but tiorress will add certain things to it for you and even assemble it for you...ifor way more money....if you want to get one go with universal jems they seem to be the cheapest ones
  21. i would suggest going to a store and trying stuff out especially the used stuff....i was at guitar center a couple days ago and i played this samick acoustic/electric it was 200 bux adn was really nice sounding for the cash......better then the yamaha acoustics they had for 200......so in summation check out your local store
  22. na the fretlight neck was posted somewhere else on these forums its replacemtn neck that has lil lights under every finger position on the neck and it cal light up in the shape of chords or do scales etc.(its kinda like those lil pianos that wouls light up and teach you songs)
  23. well i ment so that it would be possible inotate and play right but then agian i could be mistaken.....those pics are obvisouly just photoshopped, and if you made the guitar liek that ir owuldnt work right
