Alexander
Hi all, It's my birthday this week, and I thought I'd treat my self to a new electro-acoustic. I play a lot of acoustic gigs so I reckon it would be a wise investment. I've currently got a real old, knackered up Ovation held together with gaffa, and while I like the sound, it don't play too good no more! I think the neck's warped. Anyway, I was looking for recommendations from you guys - I'm in the UK, and I'm looking to spend £300 tops. Any thoughts? And don't say "build one"! Jivin
I swear by cort acoustics for my limited work. I got an amazing deal on a Cort SF-5X, which is now a discontinued model. The new model like it doesnt have a solid back, but mine as a solid mahogany back and sides, solid AA grade spruce top and Fishman Prefix Plus electronics... its an amazing guitar for the price i got it for Thats my recomendation anyway. Im not sure how much £300 equates to in my currency, but id imagine it would almost be enough to pick up something nice www.cort.com
litchfield
Dean makes some good ones. The new Carvin Cobalts are worth it too.
teknohippy
I've always had yamaha acoustics meself, and have always been pleased with them. For £300 I'd go hunting for a Yamaha APX5a personally. Should be able to find one either around or under 300 quid. Can be found in a particularly nice sandburst... Searching for a pic I've inadvertantly saved you some time searching for a price! Found at £299. http://www.soundslive.co.uk/moreinfo.asp?ID=1317
Hotrock
Have you tried Argos Actually I got a 3/4 size acoustic from the Argos staff shop (I used to work in the warehouse) for £12.50. I got it around 4 years ago and still haven't restrung it. She's going to be painted up and given to my girlfriends little sister as she helped me paint my polished-turd-ocaster. Anyway, I was going to say about Yamaha too. My old housemate used to have one very much like the photo shown. We were both more than impressed. Alexander
Thanks guys - this is all good info. That Yamaha looks nice, especially in the translucent blue... Yum. Off round town this weekend to try some of them out, I reckon.
ikke_998
I've never played one of these but they seem very nice and seem to be high quality for a good price (price range : 300-600€ = 200-400£) I'm talking about the godin acoustics (simon & patrick, Norman and seagull) they look very good and have a martin style head! http://www.godinguitars.com/
Hotrock
Thought about going the secondhand route?
Alexander
Yeah I would buy second hand, definitely, if I found something really yummy, like a well looked after Takamine or something...
Taurus
Try simon & patrick solid top acoustic guitars dont get laminated tops, because as they age, they get worse. Solid tops improve with age
