RGGR
Acetone is what desolves some plastics/ certain paints. Using terpentine, or white spirit won't effect cured paints. Stay away from Acetone and you will be fine.
MikeB
white spirit leaves an oily residue, i wouldnt reccomend it, rather use Naptha (lighter fluid) or meths. Meths leaves a small residue, this is easily removed with a cloth.
bluespresence
I'd use "Goo-Gone" or something similar. It's that citrus based stuff for removing adhesives. Works great, smells good and doesn't react (hasn't for me anyway) with any finish.
Dugz Ink
Works great, smells good... Ah, that citrus-smell of an un-gooed guitar.
Setch
A second voice for naptha here - doesn't eat finishes, leaves no residue, and eats most sticky stuff for breakfast.
